Ok, I'm just going to start saying this now: suttree delenda est.

He is already a huge pain in the ass and this conflict really makes it hard to keep up with teams that develop peacefully.. but we are not out yet.. Competitive food stat, competitive GNP that is about to improve with Alphabet, 2nd in soldier points, we are still running.. A big worry is that with these actions suttree is totally handing the game to his other neighbors and since it seems that mackoti is playing for yurimack, I think we can be sure that at least he will be utilizing this free invitation. Maybe not now, but definitely at some point.. On the positive side, suttree's total power is approximately (only) at the same level where it was the last time we killed his stack. This time he surely does not repeat the same mistakes, but on the other hand we are better prepared as well. More units, more XP, a GG. If he would put 10 axes (total) on that jungle tile during the next turn (not this turn) and moves them in I think we could just slaghter that stack. If it's 15 axes, the situation sucks.. Damn, the best scenario is that suttree attacks with ~10 units, we get decent rolls and kill all those units while losing 2-4 units. Then suttree can start gathering his stack again and this same dance can take place for the 3rd time ten turns later.. Because we are AGG, our melee units are actually pretty decent. (we get practically everywhere immediately 2 promo-units, which means shock axes). And when we take into account the higher cost of HA's (50 vs 35 hammers), they are not necessirarily a better investment for our defensive warfare, where thanks to roads (and clear idea of our opponents location) our mobility is ok. I don't deny the fact that HA's are strong and we surely could use them, but it also matters that we are still trying to keep up in this game economically and our Philo beeline is an important part of that attempt. If we ever get to start an offensive warfare, mounted units, HA's & Knights, will most likely play a key role so HBR will be teched eventually..

- Plako offered map trade - Declined - Canceled worker actions I also noticed that you did not move Brick to threaten suttree's worker. Should we still do it? That 6 axe stack can reach that tile, but it has of course jungle defense bonus. Maybe we just stay unmoved so that we can kill that barb axe next turn without pressure from suttree? On the other hand that forest chop will mean that suttree gets an extra axe..
Yeah, move him.

Good points about HBR. I'm just antsy to alter this situation somehow. Elephants, catapults? But Construction is an expensive tech. We need to figure out some way to convince suttree that continuing to attack us is not his most-emotionally-satisfying course of action, if we are assuming he's given up on doing well. I have no idea at this point what that might be.
So mackoti is playing for the guy south of suttree? Dang. I keep wishing he would take advantage of suttree's distraction to swipe some cities and take the pressure off us (yeah yeah, we lose in the long run that way ...), but it seems he is using the assurance of a peaceful northern border to develop domestically, am I right?
Moved Brick,
interesting to see what suttree does. Every idea, no matter how unrealistic, will be taken gladly into consideration Quote:So mackoti is playing for the guy south of suttree? At least he posted yesterday both into tech thread and their team thread. Quote:but it seems he is using the assurance of a peaceful northern border to develop domestically, am I right? Well, that's at least what I would probably do.. The fact that his power is significantly lower than ours while he also has ~10 cities (IIRC) to protect supports this theory. Competitive food stat, competitive GNP that is about to improve with Alphabet, 2nd in soldier points, we are still running.. Hey, we ruined his game, it's only fair he gets a shot at ruining ours... It's just our job to make sure he doesn't. TBH I'm over-egging the a bit for dramatic effect. Ten axes is (unless I'm an idiot) the biggest army he can put together right now and with shock axes and bowmen I think we can kill it if he puts a foot wrong. And if that happens we should then have an easy ride to take his Gems city and perhaps even his capital with our ancient-era trash. Even if he doesn't advance and we just sit in stalemate for another ten turns we're still teching well and we're showing power to our other neighbours who all seem to be very friendly at the moment. And while I'd like to be #1 in all the demos I don't think that is necessarily a wise place to be (although without diplo it is harder to take down the leader, I do expect Pindicooter to boat a close rival to death when they hit CS - hopefully Plako, but perhaps Ichabod or Commodore?). We've still got plenty of good land to expand into and these units are going to make good Military Police when we switch to Organised Religion and want to build forges, courthouses, libraries and markets everywhere. (October 30th, 2013, 10:06)Fintourist Wrote: Moved Brick, If I was him I'd finish the chop. He hasn't got anything else to do with workers (not enough pop to need new tile improvements, chopped all his forests already) so enticing our bowman onto flat ground for a 70% shot isn't a bad deal... Lets hope he doesn't think like me and either covers or runs away again...

More of my random, usually useless thoughts: are you sure he's chopping? What if he's roading to put his stack (plus units we can't see) 1SW of Hastings, and leaving his units in plain site to make us worry (legitimately) about Jamestown and leave units where they can't respond to such a move? <paranoia>

We are just an excuse. But yeah, I agree with you. We are not in a hole yet and probably won't be unless we get a streak of unlucky rolls during the critical battle. Let's just keep making as good decisions as possible and make the most out our situation. Quote:If I was him I'd finish the chop. Interesting scenario! Damn, there are so many options even though we are just skirmishing with ancient units! At least these turns are not boring, that's for sure! We have the visibility of the area S of Hastings and roading that forest would not allow suttree to bypass our troops. I have also thought about different kind of scenarios where suttree starts moving his troops towards west using defensive terrain, but that seems both unlikely and not terribly threatening. One scenario for suttree would be to attack Brick despite the jungle defense and move his troops onto the tile SE of Hastings. If that happens, let's hope that Brick takes two axes with him.. |
