Turn 108 ending

So Lunch will board the galley in two turns and Lord Parkin will head back towards France to try and find more barbs (unless you want to menace someone? I may not have mentioned that plako got the MOM and Great Lighthouse, Pindicooter got the Pyramids, m_h got colossus, Commodore got Hanging Gardens, dtay got the statue of Zeus and the great library.

dtay has ended turn so we can put the worker and bowman on the forest without leaving Issy open (unless someone else has a galley 3W of the city...) France will whip this settler in two turns time.

The new plan down here is to road with N, for F to put one more chop into this forest, then for F to chop the forest SW of the new city while N chops the sugar, then both can put a plantation on the sugar by t117. On t110 when Hastings pops borders and we settle the new city we'll get pretty good visibility on the approaches from Suttree, but we won't see the cities themselves.

Finally we think that Suttree has construction, so he'll be putting together a stack of catapults now, if so we want the chance to hit them on flat ground with shock axes so I think we need to chop the jungles on tiles A and B, then keep our zone defence force on tiles B or C or in Hastings. How to chop the jungles is the tricky part. We have three workers in the area, next turn one could move to A to road it by t110, then three workers finish the chop t111, meanwhile we can chop B perhaps by t112? Suttree shouldn't be able to get more than three cats by then... As with everything over here the visibility we get t110 will make things easier to plan.

Next turn do we go Meditation-Priesthood-CoL or do we find out about Suttree's cats with Masonry? I think the former. Anyway, we did some diplo, touting for cash...

We want 4gpt from YuriMack, so couldn't offer this turn.

Edit: I didn't end turn as someone was bouncing off me.

- I ended turn.
- Slow unsurprisingly did not accept the offer. He would not get trade routes to us without map trade i think..
- I'm not sure how much room we have in our tech choises before we risk our Philosophy ETA so maybe we don't tech Masonry just yet and simply assume that we are going to face cats fairly soon.. rolleye
- Turned research to 40 % as discussed in chat with Harry

Interesting fact: Suttree and m_h haven't met. This means that m_h does not know that the majority of our power is devoted to our conflict with suttree. thumbsup

Dtay did not accept OB for 2 gpt. He offered plain OB back. Should we offer for 1 gpt just because he is our friend? Kind of as a payback for being nice with horses+whales deal..

My bet is that OB's are worth 6-8 commerce for him and 0 commerce for us so I think it would be appropriate to get at least some kind of a compensation..

Thoughts?

I think we don't offer anything back, we don't need them so if he wants to get the benefit he knows what the price is...

Yeah, lets assume that we're facing catapults and carry on with our tech path.

The only risk with chopping A is Hastings can then be hit by two-movers. The border pop will obviate this threat till Engineering.

Re: Iron/Rice city - Oh, I still want to settle the jungle, just maybe not that tile. Are we sure m_h is our knight target 40 turns down the line?

2 more turns until border pop! That will make everything a bit easier..

There's still time for suggestions wink

[quote]Are we sure m_h is our knight target 40 turns down the line?

No.. So much can happen until we are that far. Currently m_h and suttree are the best candidates though. But yeah, too early to say.. One big unlucky ancient battle with suttree and we become a nice target for someone else.. crazyeye

Btw cats: If suttree comes with a stack of cats, axes, spear & chariots. Who will defend if we attack with a shock axe? How about C2 axe? One thing that gives me courage is that unless we are mistaken suttree can't build any units that our shock axes don't have odds against. In our position it's nice to be AGG.. lol

The follow-up to my "are we sure" question is, if we're not sure we're going to want or be able to attack m_h in 40 turns or whatever, why engender the risks of a hostile border now, when there's no pressing reason to do so? There are other good city sites in the jungle, and we don't need the resources that city *has a chance* to secure. I value a secure border over a shot at a redundant resource and increased risks of conflict. If it's based on the merits of the city-site itself, what does that city lose by having to run ten thousand specialists during Caste System and build culture buildings all its life? That's a big opportunity cost. I'm almost inclined to say settle the spot 3S of Cannae (or even let m_h settle 2 or 3S of there), and the clear grassland tile 4S of Dunkirk, and have just about the widest border imaginable. Crush suttree without worrying about m_h, or, if we decide we really want that land he's claimed, take it from him after he's developed it for us in 40 turns (eg. from the city-site 3S of Cannae, pre-Engineering knights can hit Nibru from an invisible staging-tile in one turn, and get close to his next-northernmost city in a second stack from the same tile as well). Anyway, just two more gpt from me.

Turn 109 Prologue

I've no idea what this means. So I offered rice back.

Maybe this makes more sense? I turned it down though.

Around city L we have company, presumably dtay is letting us know he has no ill intentions to our worker and we shouldn't bother covering him... What do you think? Note that the borders of the city north of Endor have popped, meaning that's where either the great library or the statue of zeus got built.

In the theatre things are status quo. I think we want to move the two workers to the corn, along with a spear, a bowman and a shock axe. Leaving two bowmen in Jamestown. Between the city bonus and the amphibious penalty the odds of losing are 2% and 7%. We could cover the worker with a chariot, but nothing else due to the river.

I didn't move the settler yet down here as it sounds like we're not 100% sure of the site. The spot marked x? has the benefits of:
- allowing another city to the north
- contesting resources with someone running light on military
- being further away from someone with a lot of axes
What other locations are you thinking of THH?

I've done the obvious moves and left anything contentious for comments. We have the settler for L to move, a new chariot to decide what to do with, a worker to cover and some more workers to program around Jamestown and the site of Königgrätz to set.

I'm off out now, so I'll leave you to mull over the implications.

4S of Dunkirk was the alternate city-site I mentioned in my last post, Harry. But I don't want you guys to hold up your playing on account of me; I'm not really playing in this game after all. If you guys both want to settle the competing city-site, by all means do so. You have presented compelling reasons to do so at this stage of the game militarily (it's the future I was more concerned about). And I think you're both more skilled at this than me. I was just trying to present an alternate viewpoint and attempting to apply some of the things I think I've learned (perhaps improperly) elsewhere on the site. I'm not totally opposed either, I just had to present my case strongly. wink Carry on.

Ah, sorry I missed that. I don't like that site much as its on the flat, it makes us chop one more jungle, it has a hill in Suttree's direction and lets us fit in one less city. Worth considering though, thanks for suggesting it. I'm just not as worried about m_h in 40 turns as I am about Suttree right now... yikes

I need to go out in a couple of hours, so the things I think we're doing this turn are:
- move chariot to cover worker
- move other chariot to Hastings
- move two workers to the corn with axe, spear, bowman
- move other bowman to Jamestown
- move fourth worker to chop the jungle on the staging tile (he can then help complete the corn farm or move to the other jungle tile to road or chop next turn)
- move shock axe to jungle with Brick the bowman
- move L settler to grassland and spear to forest
- move K settler and do the other planned stuff around here
