Jkaen, I am sure you can figure that out for yourself. wink Why would White play f3? The only thing that makes a little bit of sense is to support a possible e4 advance.

So that means you should keep as much control of e4 as possible by playing moves like d5 and Nf6.
One possible game in my database went:

(3157034) Marzolo,Cyril (2409) - Bricard,Emmanuel (2450) [A80]
Mulhouse GM Mulhouse (1), 30.06.2004

1.d4 f5 2.f3 d5 3.e4 dxe4 4.Nc3 e5 5.dxe5 Qxd1+ 6.Kxd1 Be6 7.fxe4 Nc6 8.Nf3 0–0–0+ 9.Bd3 fxe4 10.Nxe4 h6 11.Bd2 Nge7 12.Re1 g5 13.Kc1 Bg7 14.Nc5 Bd5 15.Bc3 Rhf8 16.Be2 Ng6 17.Nd4 Nxd4 18.Bxd4 Rf4 19.Be3 Rh4 20.Rd1 Nxe5 21.Bg1 Rd6 22.g3 Rb4 23.c3

½–½

And since you sometime suffer a bit from overestimating your position wink let me mention that White has no real chance for an advantage with f3, but that does not mean you are winning.

If anyone missed the broadcast of today's world championship game, GM King has a nice video summary on his youtube channel:

The chat on Chessbase is unbearable, I had to turn it off. Hundreds of of morons following the game and typing things like "OMG Carlsen blundered!" because he played a move that according to the engine is 0.3 units worse. Of course nobody has the slightest idea what's the point of move a or move b at all.

Thanks Gustaran, this is exactly the sort of summary I enjoy.

I see game four is up:

Somehow White has gone from conceding easy draws in games 1-2 to having to struggle just to avoid losing in 3-4, is the advantage of the first move overrated? smile

That was a nice win. I thought Carlsen was in trouble from around move 37/38 until Anand did 40. Rxb3 (players smarter than me: what did you think of that move?).

Typical victory caused by a player getting tried after a long game. If adjournments were allowed* this would have been a draw...

I think a more likely idea of what has happened in this match is that Carlsen is much stronger than Anand but was let down by choosing openings that are not in his style; rather than Black suddenly having an advantage. Carlsen should have been the challenger in the last cycle, and it would be more even, but metagame issues stopped that.

I'm rooting for Carlsen because the World Championship not being held by clearly the strongest player would damage the prestige of the title.

*And they stopped you from analyzing of course. Shogi and Go still allow adjournments as computers are not 1337 there yet. On an amusing sidenote, there was a match were they actually stopped people from analyzing games. They hired people to "shadow" the players. They even went so far as to make the shadows sleep with the players. crazyeye
