[SPOILERS] Dhalphir PB13

oh my god, Pindicator gained (and Nakor lost) 22 points in one go. They captured a SIZE ELEVEN CITY.

What the fuck Nakor? I know you might not feel up to a valiant defense, but how hard is it to press the whip button on all your big cities every turn so that at least you're handing over nothing but cottages?

I do not understand how it takes two hours to play a turn.

Something I didn't notice earlier - when Nakor played this turn, he didn't whip ANYTHING.

What

The

Fuck

If I was a contender in this game and one of scooter's rivals, I would be PISSED OFF

even the fact that I'm not and I'm still angry should tell you how fucking ridiculous this is

Man, we thought M_H rolled over quickly, but average global power still took a big dive when mackoti took him out. Nakor hasn't even put up a TOKEN fight.

Plako appears to be gathering gold for a push to Guilds. Unless he knows I have research visibility and is trying to trick me, he will be on knights soon. My hope is that I can buy myself the 3 turns for Machinery and further 5-6 turns for Engineering, so that when he's attacking I can start whipping pikes.

I meant to take photos from this turn, and with my connection problems it is way too much of a hassle to try to log back in again.

Plus I'm sure Fintourist will be logging in for his usual 3 hour inspection shortly.

I will take heaps of pictures next turn - if there's anything you want me to make sure not to forget to grab a shot of, speak up!

A general overview would be good. smile

As promised, a general overview. The game has been down for days due to the Liberalism bug for dtay, so we have only just restarted.

First up, a city list!

I have one more city to add to this list, then I am officially out of peaceful expansion locations. I don't think I'm going to go and attack anybody, but it gives me a solid core for when plako comes knocking.

Demographics at 100% science

My economy is healthy. Not competitive with any of the frontrunners, but I'm the best of the middle of the pack. My army is sufficient - slightly smaller than plako's, much bigger than Bacchus'. I will have Feudalism in about 7 turns, so I'll be able to whip my cities to the ground with longbows when plako does come knocking.

A land overview, from North to South. this takes quite a few photos due to the shape of my territory.

The final city is going on the X in the final screenshot. It's not that great a location, but it picks up a wet wheat and can work some extra cottages allowing Korhal to take better advantage of it's Moai by working more water tiles. I'll be hooking up whales and wine in the next few turns, so that will put my happy cap at 15, which is good.

Diplomatically (such as it is in this type of game), my relationship with Plako is friendly but with a tinge of inevitable doom. Apart from the early city raze, twice now i have made mistakes that could have cost me a city to him if he had chosen to take the dice roll and go for it. Instead he's shown mercy. He'll probably regret that when he invades and I grind him to dust against the bodies of my armies, but it means that I am under no illusions that he wants to take me out of the game - he just wants to win, and I am his best and only path to do so.

Bacchus, however, I think is a different story. I very aggressively and opportunistically settled the jungle against him right in his face, and unfortunately for him he got involved in some silly fights with retep and WillLP at the same time, and couldn't do anything about it - he just had to watch as I settled four excellent cities that are all a lot closer to him than to me.

But what was I supposed to do? My logical expansion path probably should have gone a good 2 cities deeper in Plako's direction, and had Serdoa been playing, possibly would have, but given the way this game has played out, a very long north-south empire was the only option unless I wanted to be stuck on 7 cities the whole game. However, I wouldn't blame Bacchus the slightest for wanting to take a piece of me as retribution.

So that's my civ. In good shape.
That's my neighbours. Mostly hostile.
And that's my plan. Get to Feudalism. Revolt to Vassalage, prebuild a bunch of longbows then wait for Plako to attack.

"friendly with a tinge of doom" lol

settling up on Bacchus is exactly what you should have done. Might males right in this game.

you said you're the best of the middle group of civs. .. what are the groupings you see?
Reply

The groupings I see are

Top prospects
Plako
Pindicator
Mackoti
dtay

Good chances to win
Commodore
FinHarry
Ichabod
Lewwyn

No chance to win
TBS
Myself
WillLP
Bacchus
Azza
Nakor (obviously)
Suttree (obviously)
Retep (obviously)

The reason I feel I'm the best of that lower group (excluding the obvious bottom three) is because I don't have multiple fronts to worry about, and the rest of them do. WillLP has the dominant and already-aggressive Ichabod next door, plus the nothing-to-lose Retep and Bacchus. Azza has Lewwyn to contend with, and is on a continent with multiple other strong players.

Out of the ones who have no chance to win, I feel I have the best chance to still be alive at the end of the game - and I think my economy is among the best too, due to my multiple open borders and maxed out peacetime modifiers.

Solid analysis there, and it looks like you've done a reasonably good job of taking over for Serdoa.
