Thanks for the adventure T-hawk, I really enjoyed it. But I did most of the playing on a horrible Vista laptop so I don't have access to the screenshots (or the patience to write a proper report) so I'm just going to give you this and explain how I got each. I think I scored 14, I'm sure it's not a winning score and I'll understand if it has to be a shadow because I don't have the snaps of capturing each, at this point all the other presents are all taken so 14 is where I'm stuck.
1 - The Forest Cow helped the capital get off to a good start
2 - After I got pyramids and TG Lighthouse it was the sixth city before I got another present, here the Plains Forest Farm on what became my Moai island
3 - The Forest City Ruins is claimed with a city that also puts pressure on 11 (forest banana) but because Djenne was a holy city that took some time...
4 - Forest Lake is claimed with the 11th city, by this point I'm in a golden age and charging away from the field, but realise that to claim any more I need galleons
5 - Issy settles others just as I'm approaching so Forest Hit Movies is the first overseas site
6 - Hattie similarly restricts me to just the Ice Forest Hit Singles (I didn't spot any Ice Forests without any other goodies, so does this one count twice?)
7 - Forest Hamlet (I think) came next
8 - Followed by Mountain Forest (I nearly missed this one - nice trick!)
9 - Marble Forest was actually a barb city that I spent far too long capturing
10 - By now I had settlers on galleons roaming in the hope of finding new gifts - Forest Hit Musicals was one such
11 - At this point I won the culture war with Mansa for the Forest Banana - this thanks to the Sistine Chapel and a lot of artists
12 - Forest Iron was another barb city, although this one was a quicker kill
13 - Forest Whale was the last site that I could settle freely
14 - Lastly Forest Watermill could be a little controversial, I arrived with a mace the same turn that Issy had a horse archer and a settler here. I had to kill the settler to be sure she didn't grab my spot and I settled the very next turn. I don't think this violates the no city attack rule though does it? Then it was a simple matter of three turns before the tile flipped to me.
How to do this better? Perhaps an astronomy bee-line would have netted more sites, but I think I did okay there. Distracting myself with Pyramids and The Great Lighthouse might not have been best, but with the stone there and pretty high costs I wanted to be able to expand without worrying about the economy. As it was I ran away with the tech lead so both wonders were probably unnecessary.
If I played it again I'd ignore the wonders, bee-line (bulb?) Astro and get galleys and settlers moving through open borders early. I made quite an effort to grab site 4 which could perhaps have been better spent grabbing two sites from Issy and one from Hattie. Dunno if that'll work out better though. Still I had a lot of fun (note the 22 turns of GA remaining...)
Happy new year!
