[SPOILERS]The Tyrant realizes that once the world burns it gets really boring....

Who would you call a winner now?

I'd still call a draw between William and Retep just to be done with it. I don't really care who would win the thousand years' war between them.

Edit: Third place to Wetbandit, no prize for everyone else.

Well we (by which I mean "I, following on a Lurker Thread suggestion") already hinted once to the players that you guys start a conversation on ending the game. Lurkers (in this case, me) got some blow-back on that & the general player consensus appeared to be "play on!", so I don't think you can expect much more involvement from us. If you want out of the game, just tell everyone you want to retire to the AI and give your reasons. I feel like we already had this conversation in the Lurker Thread for a different pitboss, but I think it is reasonable to players to release control of their civs to AI command if the game is burdensome for them to play and all their future holds is defensive warfare as they are slowly eliminated. Considering you just recently posted:

I'm not retiring to AI. I'm either going down with the ship or the players are declaring the game over.

Then either bluntly tell the other players you want to end the game or just suck it up, I guess.

I've been playing the last 150 turns without any real expectation of victory, yet haven't been mailing it in. I guess that qualifies as sucking it up.

Let's see what Retep does. If he keeps logging in, ending turn, and logging out, that will probably persuade the holdouts that the game is over. Until then I'll keep playing. Didn't have time this morning in my usual play window but the timer will let me get back to it tonight after work.

Thanks for your thoughts. I think this was the discussion from ~slow vs. Ichabod in PB13. That one was more hypothetical, at least on my part (and should NOT be read as an indictment against slow). This one is a bit less theoretical and there are specific elements that make this game a chore for a majority of players. Most of the teams are out of the running, and have been for quite some time. These teams are being held hostage by the teams who are in competition to win. Fair enough, that's the nature of the beast and exactly what we signed up for (and what we deserve, given we didn't go for a fair/balanced map). Three teams could be seen to still be competitive, though really only two have any chance at all, WilliamLP and retep, if nothing changes rapidly. If one of those guys doesn't care enough to run his civ, then IMO we have a winner and the game should end and the rest of us can stop wasting our time.

The issue changes when the game leader is mailing it in, or giving spoilerish information that ruins the integrity of the game, or gives advantageous information to other teams, etc. We're on the verge of having some bad blood here, and I'd really prefer to avoid that. As it is, I don't respect retep's actions and won't play another game that he's involved with. He has handled this exceedingly poorly from my perspective. I view it the same way I did the hypothetical argument from PB13 where a player is mailing it in. Lack of effort pisses all over the effort that other players have put into the game. As Xenu says, he has been putting time into this shitball game for a long time now when it was obvious to anyone who cared to look that we had no chance of attaining a victory condition. He isn't doing that for his own benefit or enjoyment.

I think torpedoing the game would be a kinder end than flaming it out in the tech thread and then calling it when blood starts boiling over. There are plenty of other games I'd like to play and I really only have time for one at a time. Oxy has moved on, as have several others in this game.

Xenu, I'm pretty much one more 4-minute turn from starting up the concession conversation for real. Where are you on that? Your vote matters most since you're playing the turns.

I'd prefer to let William or Wetbandit start the call next time. I don't think William will vote to end the game and crown himself winner, though, he seems an upright sort of guy for that kind of thing. But yeah, within a few turns if Retep keeps on with the log in / end turn / log out routine it'll be time to say something.

Maybe you should just post this in the tech thread :P

I take it you mean the bit where the shout END END as the hideous creature walks in? lol

Strangely, this game was mysteriously lacking in jitterbugging (or whatever) jiggly women. Is that normal?
