[SPOILERS] Hashoosh goes for a Carribean (von Alder) Creutz

(February 23rd, 2014, 10:01)von Adlercreutz Wrote: Thanks! Btw I think we're fellow countrymen since I'm a Finn and you're a Finn too, right? I've checked your thread on PB13, now somewhere around page 50 and seems solid play to me, making the best out of a rough start. For a while I was worried you would wait for library in Cannae to get border pop for gold, but gladly noticed you decided to build a barracks for the culture.

Yeah, I'm a Finn as my extremely boring nick gives away. tongue Jowy is too, I don't know if there are any others.

Very mild PB13 spoilers:

And yes, during the slow early turns we often discussed various questionable approaches with OH and typically discarded them eventually. We would have loved a quick library in Cannae as that was one of our rare commerce sites and barracks is there really not much more than a monument. Early library would have enabled an academy-play as well, but since the city was surrounded by jungle instead of forests in the end we just had to accept that library was too costly and slow build at that time..

Regarding our PB13 thread, it probably becomes more interesting in the mid-game as the focus shifts gradually more from micro to macro.

Bummer about the hockey for you guys, probably would've made for a better gold medal game if you'd beaten the Swedes.

Anyways, yeah. Greece is not the greatest, especially with the non-fishing start. shakehead But out of a choice between Gilgamesh (Cre/Pro) of Japan (bad) and Genghis of Aztecs (okay) I think we got saddled with some real stinkers. Would any of you have stuck with the first two pairings? I'm really regretting not keeping Genghis atm, Agg/Imp is power in RBmod, fast settlers covered by cheap rbmod barracks. But enough hindsight.

Since I agree a lot (except about PRO) with von Alder, I'll write up the psychological profiles for the opponents in this game. A guide to victory, basically nod

To open, we take a look at the mythical and reclusive Dhalphirus Prottossius, of the Kingdom Mammalia. (post to come)

POWER RANKINGS

Leader/Civ: (Saladin of Mongolia)

3 yikesyikesyikes/ of 10

I mean, his leader is named after an assortment of leafy greens, and his civilization never (ever, not even once) achieved anything of note in world history. I don't see good things coming from this guy's picks. Protective is the worst trait in the game (right behind FIN) with cheap granaries. Why build the damn things when you could just build the Pyramids and get free ones in every city. Pure smoke

Psychological Profile

Aggressive/Quick Learning

As seen in many IT threads, you can quickly become the object of his anger if turns are not played. Note, would make an excellent Italian dictator for punctuality skills. DO NOT POKE THE BEAR.

However, we have intel that he may or may not be on the receiving end of a direct mind link with Sullla himself. If these reports prove to be true (as they have in past PBEMs featuring Dhal) we may be in for a world of pain. We should watch for high thread viewcounts to be sure he hasn't tapped into the RB veteran's mind bank.

In all seriousness, this will be his 3rd PBEM and (with 2 PBs) at RB, giving him a big edge over myself in MP experience (with just 1 PB). Dhal's one of the best Starcraft 2 players around, and that takes some serious skill and dedication. He'll be playing for the win, and will be one of our toughest opponents. In PB13, despite taking over from a weak start, he's fought hard against plako to make sure that every city taken is taken with a lot of pain. He won't be rolling over to an early rush in this game either. He's made some mistakes in his wars, but is learning quickly.

Overall Ranking: Dangerous

Greatest Weakness: Greenness
Greatest Strength: That he may no longer be a green. And if the save file turns into a SC2 file, we're all screwed

What? Are you saying that we should not build granaries yikes? Is this a weird joke? Then I don't get it... Mids don't give free granaries either. The faster growth and more efficient whipping are very important even though slavery is a bit nerfed.

And I agree that PRO is weak but the cheap granary makes it significantly better than in BTS. Are you saying you think the new FIN is the 2nd weakest trait in the game? I don't think so. No tech trading already makes teching power important, lot more important than in my typical SP games. And RBmod makes the late game teches more expensive which means that teching power is needed if we want to keep up in the late game. So I don't see the new FIN too weak even though it's clearly nerfed because this kind of game will require a lot of teching power.

(everything I said before 'in all seriousness' was a joke)

Opening scout onto the PH, just to check if its viable. Having the extra +1 food from Sugar is a good trade off if we don't settle on PH.

Agree?

You need to be more exact, there are 3 plainhills in the starting screenshot. And where our starting scout even starts? On our settler? The screenie doesn't tell. Moving to PH would lose fresh water too. Anyway sounds ok idea to check that option but there has to be something really convincing for not to SIP.

Btw do you know how soon this will start?

Seems like it will start tonight. I meant 2W if the scout starts on top of the settler

Seems like Korean starting teches were changed to agri/min which is very strong. That makes going straight for BW more viable since Korea should probably be able to hook up some food resource with agri. So Gavagais leader/civ combo became just stronger: while the traits don't help at the start it's compensated by those starting teches and should mean a fast start.
