AT's PBEM 58 Thread (or, AT Break's Bad)

Settled Full Measure and my costs jumped by 50%. (from 8 to 12). This is why rapid expansion is tough on toroidal. I shudder to think of what the next city will cost.

OR is costing me 1 gpt, so it's a definite investment.

Whipped the forge in for next turn, will get 6 overflow and a pop-regrowth, giving me 15 overflow hammers for a missionary for Ozymandias (I'll build 2 more there). Might build a 2nd missionary in Say My name, then a WB. Not sure. Definitely want a WB there, though, at some point.

Also, C-H accepted open borders and I took a look at Norende:




Unlike me (who has no infra at all except for the oracle and about to be a forge), he has a granary and a lib there (though, he's philo, so I'm sure he really wants a scientist).

I am thinking he does not have much of an armed force this way, so I'm going to send my chariot off scouting to the SE.

i'm sort of wondering what would happen if I sent a couple of axes and chariots at C-H. problem is, it's basically impossible to take him by surprise by speed with all the jungle.

Eastways is expanding like mad - he's at 5 cities and is about to plant his 6th.

C-H lost a city to B4ndit.

eastways is up to 6 cities, TT is up to 7 (not that that's too surprising, with him being imperialistic)

C-H got his scientist.

eastways also has archery (I can see an archer in one of his cities).

world at war - eastways is attacking TT now. Dunno how I managed to not get attacked, but I'm ok with that. TT must be really doing a serious farmer's gambit, because my military sucks and eastways isn't barely more powerful than me. I have an axe, a spear and a chariot and 4 warriors, which inspires fear in no one at all.

I will say that I'm almost certainly getting pyramids - it seems unlikely that anyone is putting hammers into an expensive wonder while at war, so that gambit is paying off.

So, I 2 pop whipped my settler in Felina - that will go the PH/fish site that will get ivory, SE of Say My Name. That will be ABQ (which is just a freaking devastating episode - you kind of have to have watched the entire season to get a full understanding of the horror that Walter White is responsible for, but what happens in the episode itself it gut-churning enough)

I'm going to chop out that forest where the city will go - it's just 8 hammers, but with forge, copper and OR, that's 10 to a WB or 20 to collosus, which is a nice little bonus.

It means it takes an extra couple of turns to hook it up, but that's ok. Well worth it.



Settler gets there in 3 turns, and on turn 4, I finish the chop, then settle.

Turn 48:

eastways offered OB - I declined, as it would help him, not me, and eastways is currently winning. (TT has lost a city).

I offered OB to TT and am researching sailing now - lighthouses are useful for me, plus getting some trade routes would be good.

TT has lost a city somewhere along the way:



he's got a vulture wandering through the wilderness towards eastways - not sure what the point of that is, since eastways doesn't even need numidians to kill it.

It's getting to the point that I need to back fill some of the military techs - IW, archery, HBR.

I got charts on everyone but B4ndit. Good news is that it's not eastways who is killing everyone in power - he's about the same as me. bad news is that it's C-H. He's got 97K soldiers, which means a lot of praets - i figure 4 or 5.

Pop makes 6 (I can see 2 size 5 citiies and I know he has a 3rd), and I can see a spear, a warrior and a praet. He's got Wheel, BW, AH, Mining, Hunting, and IW (I assume he has hunting and AH, but it seems like a good assumption).

I don't see any barracks. I figure he has 3 or 4 warriors.

That leaves some 30K+ troops unaccounted for - my assumption is that those are praets, cause he's rome.

5 praets is tough for anyone to handle, so I presume B4ndit has his hands full - though, it looks like he did take a city from C-H.

In other news, TT made peace with eastways. I am guessing the TT settled too close to eastways with a vulture to defend the city and eastways hit him with a couple of chariots.

However, eastways and TT are the more dangerous long-term foes:







Tt's tops in mfg, and about tied with eastways in crop yield. Though, my guess is that TT is builidng a settler for some of that.

eastways is playing a very strong game here, btw. I suspect he has nearly no infra in most of his cities, but he has a lot of them.

We may have to back a turn or two, which is pretty easy to do in PBEM. I'm not sure what could cause this (I'm not asking for lurker speculation). Disputed combat results?

ahh - well, now B4ndit knows better. Thanks to the lurkers and thanks to b4ndit, for posting about what he found.

I don't know if I'll have to replay or not - don't remember if B4ndit comes before me in the turn order or not.
