So, lots has changed since I last saw a save. We have a ton more cities. ( I forgot to count :P) We have a genuine c5 Barnaxus. I don't know if this has ever happened before here in a multiplayer game, he usually seems to die in some comical way, and then his corpse gets carted off by a spider or some such thing. Gifts of Nantosuelta was used and the hammers put into the capital. We got the 2 lizards event, and both are still alive.
We also no longer have squatters on our rice tile, and the scorpion was captured! Free poisoned blades has been put to good use on scouts and lizards in capturing tons of bears. I grabbed a couple more this turn, all of our cities now either have a dancing bear or have another on the way.
A settler finished eot and another finishes in not too long. I'm not %100 on where I want to plop the next city. The next ring to settle is some very marginal land. Leaning towards the NW for fish and deer. I made some scouting moves up there in addition to bear capturing so hopefully I can have a better idea of the BFC of a possible city there. We seem to be on an island, there could be a connection in the north but there is ice, so unless it was edited in there we may be isolated. I think the map was mostly left alone, so it could certainly be possible. If we are hopefully our little chunk here is a decent amount of the total land, or we may just get outexpanded.
As an aside, I actually took several screenshots and was intending to post them, but I can't seem to get dropbox to link properly. Hopefully I can figure it out by next turn.
Both programs I've used to post images are still not working, I'm not sure what is going on. I tried reinstalling and no dice. Have to deal with text updates still, if anyone is actually following this.
I have put a dancing bear in every city that didn't have one yet. The capitol popped another GE, I'm saving him for now for a wonder at a later date. Ginsu already builds things absurdly fast, so settling another one there seemed iffy. Maybe I should settle it elsewhere?
Last tech was writing to get some libraries up and running. Currently teching archery because several cities are stuck working forested flatlands as their best hammer tiles, so some lumbermills would help them quite a bit. Fairly certain I'm going to start on trade next.
I built a galley out of PotatoGlove to go try and explore the world and make contact by traversing the ice shelf to the north. Have two more settlers cooking, it won't be long before the island is filled. I'm a bit unsure how best to the rest of the western cities. There is one (barely) food tile in a plains hill sheep that is still unused. There is quite a bit of grassland out west but no easy way to get irrigation for most of the plants. I think the best bet will be to plant next to the oasis so I can chain irrigate the west out from that city.
I really need to get pictures working again. Hopefully I can manage that by next turnset. I found out that coastal bound ships cannot in fact follow ice as I had assumed, so my galley build was a total waste. Finished hunting because a couple cities will need deer as food. Started on trade to try to get our gnp up.
Turnset is finally around again, we're at 110 so it's all yours Dave. I realized after I ended turn that I removed every sign except a sign reminding me to remove signs . I didn't think I needed to replay the turn for that, so feel free to clean it up.
The great commander must be from Military Strategy; a nice play to open up Command Posts.
The F1 screen (after choosing new production for the first two cities):
My take: ouch. We have nine cities and a pretty lame economy. Lots of forests need to be lumbermilled, and we don't have enough mud golems to do it. We're in second place in demos, way behind the leader. We have no religion; the leaders have OO, which is the perfect religion for a watery world. We are Financial and building Libraries in cities that are pulling in just a couple beakers. We're building a settler in a city with almost no food surplus. We've researched Hunting, a very expensive tech, but our only deer tile has a cottage on it. We already have bear cages in all our cities, and are paying maintenance on mediocre Bear units. We don't have a single Wood Golem. We're still in God King at turn 110!
I count exactly 250 tiles on our island, out of 1376 total, so there are some neutral islands out there (plus the abandoned homeland of the dead team). It looks like we need Optics to find them.
I did a considerable amount of retooling on the cities, leading to this revised F1 screen:
Emphasizing production in a lot of cities; I'm still building a Library so the capital can crank out the Great Library.
I also cranked up the slider; we've saved over 400 gold - what for?
I haven't been very diligent about taking screenies for this game. Here are a few.
Turn 118, bears closing in after their buddy did a lot of damage to my lizard. The stack to the north of the highlight includes a barb warrior and skeleton, which shouldn't present much of a danger to my troops.
Turn 119. I burned my latest engineer on a golden age to do a triple revolt to some more economically oriented civics.
Also, I whipped out three caravels in southern cities. Yes, I whipped in a golden age; shoot me.
My optics-enhanced galley has spotted a center island. Nicolae's job is to ferry some units and settlers over there.
Ooh, a nice event, maybe I should build some archer equivalents.
Maybe I should go for a religion. How about go for Corruption of Spirit?
City screen.
Ouch, what a dry city, I'll want some water mana. Hence the magic line?
Finally got incense connected... and it does nothing without a religion.
Got a plan to build the form of the titan wonder.
Accidentally mismoved a scout, but then I decided to take it back to the capital for upgrades.
A few barbs moving in.
Using this bear as a guard. Turns out you can drag the unit model in the bottom left corner around.
I should get someone over to take care of this elephant.
Traits. Ugh, nothing's changed.
The north. I'll need natur 3 to colonise it.
This is where the barbs moved.
T121:
Sent in barnie because he had good odds.
Holy crap that's alot of lizards.
Ooh, a hut, guess the southern continent isn't occupied.
The core.
Change of plan, go for Sanitation.
Some very nice demos now that Sanitation came in.
T122
Another change of plan, Ashen Veil might not be a good idea, this is an expansion/builder map, so Honor it is!
Damn, I want a city there. Landed a single warrior in case it gets eaten by a spider.
Gonna pick up more units and move them to the southern continent.
Other skeleton moved here.
T123:
Argh that's alot of lizards, time to run away and settle with some proper defences.
Killed that skeleton at decent odds.
T124:
Moving a settler to the west.
Wait, why didn't I get Empyrean? Argh, someone beat me to it. That's what you get for constantly changing techs.
I did get an eccleastic.
Now, the question is, do I also switch to Empyrean, or do I go for another religion? I have a decent number of forests and lumbermills, that calls for Fellowship of leaves? Only 2 turns away, so I will be able to tech that and switch on the last turn of the golden age.
