[SPOILERS] Sorry, we don't post on topic!

Man Commodore is a terrible mapmaker, this is blatantly unfair, unbalanced, unhinged, and unseemly.

Okay, obligatory bitching out of the way, I'd say we should send the Scout NW twice.

lol I bet that's the kind of update the lurkers want to read.

2NW for the scout sounds fine. I think I'd go 1NW1NE, to reveal more of the BFC of a SIP plant (the tile 2N1E of the settler seems like a resource. But if we are going to settle in place, starting to scout our surroundings as quickly as possible would be good, and 2NW seems best for that.

I wonder if the game is officialy up or if we'll reload again...

Well, I can probably get home at lunch to follow orders. If you can be online in about 2 - 2.5 hours we can play our first turn.

I'll probably be avaiable at gmail chat. There's even the possibility I'll be avaiable to actually log in to the game, since I think I'll try to squeeze the PB13 turn during my lunch break.

Game is down unfortunately.

Since the game is down, we can talk about more important subjects, like a naming scheme.

How about naming the cities after clubs that already won a top continental cup, doing it in alphabetic order.

We could select from:

UEFA Champions League
Copa Libertadores
OFC Champions League
AFC Champions League
CONCACAF Champions League
CAF Champions League

So, the Capital could be Al-Ahly (egyptian club with 8 CAF wins), Ajax (4 UCL wins), América (5 CONCACAF wins) and so on.

Of course, the Capital could also be nameds after the team with the most wins in such competitions, Real Madrid. shades

I read "alphabetical" and immediately thought "most wins"...good thing you anticipated that wink.

So, while we wait for the game to start, i'm going to assume that Darrell agrees with my naming scheme. To make things more interesting, I decided to talk a bit about each club that we choose to name our cities after. I'm going to base these analysis on what I've seen from the club during the time I watched football (to give you a parameter, the first competition I clearly remember watching was the 1994 World Cup, when I was 5 years old - the first UCL I watched was 1999, the 2-1 Man Utd win against Bayern). So, don't expect me to talk about Pele and Maradona, since I actually didn't see them play.

Without further ado:

Real Madrid Club de Fútbol

1. General Info

If you ever heard anything about football, you probably heard of Real Madrid. The club has quite a bit going for them: it's the richest football club in the world, it currently has the best football player in the world (Cristiano Ronaldo), it has the most continental cup wins in the entire world (9 UCL championships), it has never been relegated to a lower division of the spanish league... The list goes on. It's one of the, if not the, most successful football club in the world.

Personally, I'm not very fond of Real Madrid, since I dislike Spanish football as a whole. What's the point of a league where only 2 teams can win? In the whole history of La Liga, there has only been 9 different winners, since the competition started in 1929, so it's not something so recent. But, in recent years, things have gotten even more ridiculous. The last time I team other than Real Madrid or Barcelona won La Liga was 2003/2004 (Valencia - which it's a broken team right now). Together, Madrid and Barça have 54 La Liga titles, while all the other teams together have 28.

So, the thing with Madrid is, you have at most 9 games worth watching in a season. 7 games from the playoff rounds of UCL and the 2 games against Barça in La Liga. Boring!

But, since I hate Barça way more than Real Madrid, I tend to sympathize with them a bit.

2. Stadium

Santiago Bernabéu (capacity for 81.044 spectators)

3. Notable Player (that I've seen playing)

Zinedine Zidane - one of the best players I've ever seen play, Zidane was part of the Galactic era of Real Madrid (along with Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Beckham, Figo). Real Madrid signing of Zidane was the highest value ever payed for a football player when it happened (which has been surpassed by other afterwards). Perhaps his biggest moment was the 2 goals in the 1998 World Cup Final where France massacred Brazil. Other memorable moment, this time playing for Real, was the beautiful volley against Leverkusen, in the 01/02 UCL Final.

His worst moment was the one in the picture above, when he was sent off due to a headbutt in Materazzi in the Final of the 2006 WC against Italy (what Materazzi said to Zidane to make him do this is eprhaps one of the biggest mysteries in football).

4. Notable Game (that I've watched)

2002 UEFA Champions League Final - Real Madrid 2 - 1 Bayer Leverkusen - the last UCL championship that Real Madrid won. The key moment of the match was the goal scored by Zinedine Zidane, already mentioned above.

5. Player that played in this team that also played for Grêmio

Émerson - He played for Grêmio from 1994 to 1997 (he started his carrer here) and played for Real Madrid from 2006 to 2007.
