Mikehendi Pitboss 16 Thread

Sulla, given the way you abandoned the game, I don't know if you even have any desire to read this thread. But I want to say two things.
First, I totally understand your desire to play anonymously and even sympasize with it. It is just hilarious how the tone of commentators changed the moment your identity was disclosed. The same people who praised your play before started to look for flaws in it. It was said a lot around their that your lead was "an illusion", you were "a paper tiger", that it was "just a farmers gambit" and a lot of total bullshit like that. In this kind of atmosphere no wonder that one would want to hide his identity! Really, I felt for you while reading all this.
Second, I think you have played an excellent game and confirmed your reputation as one of top players here. It was told that your whole strategy was fallacius but I disagree with that. While Bantams was doing nothing and Gaspar was... busy you were doing exactly the right thing. Fending off Gaspar's attack shouldn't have actually taken much, you needed just a few more spears. It is a pretty small-scale mistake, not a proof that you did everything wrong. I don't know what exactly has happened as you stopped reporting exactly before Gaspar's attack but I now that you were very alert before. It was entirely possible to hold Gaspar off while running "farmer's gambit".
And excellent read as usual. Really, pity that you have chosen to stop playing.

I made all these calculations about how fast you could get them in various plans, and then you revolted into nationalism about 5 turns before I thought you'd finish it, completely throwing me for a loop.

Nothing was happening. The capital was building a Market when I took over, I think. I never even thought about building a wonder, considering there was no defence against Gaspar's attack, and I fully expected I would need military again after the first peace treaty expired. Hence the Nationhood revolt and switch to military production afterwards. Oxford wasn't an option, capital was the only city with a Uni at the time

I was surprised by city infrastructure at my takeover, many cities didn't have anything except Granary. Nationhood reovolt could've been a mistake, the empire wasn't prepare for drafting, I had about 1.5 turns of drafting (6 drafts), then cities were either at happy cap or too small for drafting. But there was way too much I needed to build, and I didn't think I could win against your 25 cities without an immediate military oppeartion, which is why I decided to switch and draft what I could

Welp, I guess the game wouldn't have continued much longer if we didn't get the engineer then anyway. Merchant mission + Taj 12t later would technically have been better, with no competition.

This is a classic example of waaaaaay too early Liberalism; one Awesome McCoolsauce unit loses to a dozen Old News units, always. Nothing you did wrong that I can tell, Yuri, you just did what you could with what you had. Sorry you got handed a paper tiger. frown
