[Spoilers] Old Human Tourist: Empress of Azteca

I'm probably leaning towards that approach as well, but anyways:
- 2 warriors have clearly above 50 % chance to kill one warrior in a flat city so Azza might well decide against settling if we are aggressive and he does not have support nearby --> I think we can push him if we want, spoiled relationship is the real cost
- teleporting is very unlikely to be helpful tongue

Damn it.. I'm way too tired for making these decisions. Many thanks THH for holding me back! crazyeye

- Really? I guess you'd know better than I, I just remember warrior-on-warrior attacks being relatively pointless in single-player.
- Ok.

- No problem. smile

Yeah, 2v1 makes it.. First attack is ~30 % and in second one we will have odds if we just get 1 or 2 hits. Did not check the calculator so I dunno yet which one is it. Anyways odds to get 2+ hits with the first warrior are decent. But OH is leaning towards option 2 also so no worries.. wink

Turn 58

Azza settled a very nice city in the far west:

There is no way Mardoc is going to be happy about this though popcorn Btw, happy that Azza did not get horses into his BFC here.

Meanwhile we have our own border clash here (OH also voted for option 2 so we are not starting an open conflict yet..):

Expected thing is that Azza settles in place and our units teleport away, but history has shown that in similar situations surprising things can happen. Maybe 3 warriors that we have here seem threatening to him and he backs off.. Well, I'm not counting on it and adjusted the micro based on that. Damn, I'm totally itching to press that declare button here.. still time to do it until Azza plays his turn.. mischief Anyways, Azza is definitely not going to get that plains hill site where we are standing, which is a win regarding our future borders.

In domestic news we whipped our 4th granary and settler for city 6 (or 5 if our western settler still annoyingly spends 1000 years traveling to a new site).

Despite Fintourist's natural instincts we're hoping for friendly relations with Azza for another 30 or so turns mischief at which point having forced him to settle on flat ground is going to be very valuable nod.

He's sticking with Azzan tradition in settling contested cities miles from his capital. Might be worth getting graphs on Brickadoc to see when the response is coming... Is city visibility on Azza more useful to us? Has Azza spent anything on us yet?

EPs are now 100/24.

I dunno, city visibility would be pretty awesome (currently 170 required).. IIRC Mardoc is still at 2 cities, which is pretty damn slow. So maybe Azza gets away with his pink dots this time.. nono

Btw, just spent a while sandboxing and totally crashed our economy tongue Cross your fingers for Sailing or big gold bounty from that hut.. (it might still take a while before we get it as there is a wolf threatening our scout again)

It'll be another 20 turns before we get city visibility then. Do you have any idea how long before Azza gets our graphs at current rates? Having research visibility is good. I want to know if Brickadoc are going to attack him, but at two cities right now I just don't see that happening. So let's stick with Azza for now...

Excellent. How far did you get? I reckon Currency for wealth, then techs to conquer Azza then CoL for courthouses is our future...

Yeah, but say if you want to change! Maintaining research visibility and working towards city visibility just attract me. It would be nice to maximize the information that we have from our closest neighbor.

I think I founded our 8th city on T72 and then I stopped (just wanted to test how things work out if Azza settles in place and we have to find another site to settle). I did not exactly crash our economy, but got a feeling for commerce problems that we are going to face. Beelining Currency + wealth-boosted CoL definitely sound like a plan. Sailing would be important for whales happiness in the near future, but let's see.

Btw, here is the updated sandbox if you want to play with it.

Turn 59

Interesting turn tonight! nod

I actually thought that Azza backed off as I did not see any score change from him yikes But it was just his whip canceling out the score increase from the new city --> nothing was shown in civstats replacement.

1. So everything went almost as expected and I moved our warriors, settler and worker away
2. Happy that Azza had to settle on the flat ground. Life in Cornelius will be significantly more comfortable
3. I truly hope that Azza sees our backing off as a friendly sign and treats us in the future accordingly
4. Bad news was that our troops teleported SE and not E as I thought they would --> This means that our settler needs even one more turn for traveling. This whole scenario is quite a big setback for our expansion curve, but I hope that long-term benefits of this outweigh the costs. Now Azza actually has 5 cities and we only have 4.. (Well we have granaries in all of our cities, Azza has none, and we have 2 settlers on their way)

5. One reason for why I did not really consider aggression this time anymore:

That's Axe #1 for Azza. I don't see this demanding reaction from us, but let's keep (as planned) 80 gold in our pockets for an emergency upgrade just in case..

I studied some mechanics and found out that you can't pop healing from the hut if you have 40+ HP.. So I went in and popped that hut...

dancing jive dancing jive dancing

FINALLY! jive

Sure, we had already researched almost half of Writing, but that's still a bit more than 100 beakers. ~4 turns of research! I'm happy! nod That is something we definitely needed!! jive

In the east our settler moves onto a city site next turn:

I'm still a bit unsure whether we should settle E or N of Wheat. We kind of decided that we go for N of Wheat for long-term dotmap reasons, but the other option kind of bugs me. Getting more quality (fish) into city faster and more forests inside our borders to support barracks whip instead of monument sounds appealing. On the other hand settling onto forest with Maths approaching is wasteful as well.. Anyways, unless I hear from you I settle N of Wheat and we just make it work.

Our core area looks rather amusing with all 4 cities ready to grow:

Not being able to settle in the west obviously destroyed my micro plan and now it's actually a pretty close case whether we should run avoid growth and work ivory instead of sheep in Cornelius this turn. In the end I decided against it: we lose 2 food, but gain 1 hammer and 1 commerce. That's still a bad trade, but growing faster to size 3 means that we also get a worker out one turn faster, which based on my simming brings immediately 1 further commerce in (1 cottage turn vs unimproved tile) and obviously will always be that one turn ahead hopefully bringing in more benefits..

OH: I'll be traveling over the weekend to a summer cottage of a friend. There should be internet and I will have my laptop with me, but if you hear nothing from me on Saturday and people have to pause for me it would be awesome if you can cover. Here are the non-obvious things to do on T60.
1. Cornelius switches to worker build
2. In the west, worker that is already on forest roads, the one near cornelius moves to plains hill N-N of the city. Settler moves to the same forested tile where warrior and worker currently are
3. In the east workers road towards the new city (finish partly built road and start roading wheat)
4. Our Southern scout should not move onto deer tile unless we want to make contact with Cheater Hater

Awesome! I like writing!

That teleport is a PITA, I'm sure it should be towards the nearest city, not at a 45 degree angle from it. duh

And sure, I'll be around on Saturday if needed.
