On a related note ... is there anyone planning to take over for me when I go on vacation in 10 days? Or eastway, are you going to pick it back up again?

B4ndit's time is ticking. I captured a city off of him amphibiously since it just had a single pike inside and I had 2 maces on ship waiting for such a opportunity. I debated just razing it, but decided to keep it. I'm betting my defense on the premise that neither of the #1/2 powers want to engage the #3, and thereby trag themselves out of the running. AT has Steel now though, so that could be problematic for us. Still, I decided to chose Steam as the next tech. The plan is to get Levees online in all the major river cities. The payback time hammer-wise is about 10-turns or less due to the crazy number of rivers. Probably Steel after Steam, maybe a try for first to Communism for the GSpy and try launching a GA. (I don't know how many GP are necessary for the next GA, I'm guessing 3). Not me, and eastway hasn't been on the site for two weeks... (June 22nd, 2014, 07:04)Cornflakes Wrote: (I don't know how many GP are necessary for the next GA, I'm guessing 3). If you have one GP the rollover text on the GA button will tell you. If you don't then I guess you have to scroll back through the event log .
Completed: RB Demogame - Gillette, PBEM46, Pitboss 13, Pitboss 18, Pitboss 30, Pitboss 31, Pitboss 38, Pitboss 42, Pitboss 46, Pitboss 52 (Pindicator's game), Pitboss 57
In progress: Rimworld
Well ... whoever is going to take over ... this is a good time to give your input regarding tech path. My plan is to get Steam next end of 3rd turn, putting up Levees in half a dozen cities. After that ??? I think a run at Communism is too late. I think TT is going that route. I'm thinking RR (pick up Steel for Cannon on the way) > Assembly Line (still needs many pre-reqs).
This is the current tech situation. A GA would be very powerful (1) we have MoM, and (2) for civics swap. If we can gun Communism for the free GSpy + Kremlin that would give us the best shot at climbing back into this game. GP counter is a 268*3/2 = 400, so we've popped out 3 GPeople already.
I scrolled through the event log. We popped out a GProphet in ancient times, a GScientist a while later, and a GEngineer right before I took over. I only saw one GA listed in the event log. GProphet was used for a GA, and it looks like the GScientist was pumped out at the end of the GA or shortly after. I didn't see another GA fired by eastway in the log, so GScientist was use to bulb ??? and GEngineer was used to complete ??? ... ??? ... There were no wonders completed by eastway since MoM around the 100AD. What happened to that engineer? Was he used for Moai Statues at Harlond? That seems like a huge waste, but I can't think of anything else. I confirmed via stats that we don't still have him and he wasn't killed.
All that to say, we just need two GPeople for a GA. I've been trickling one at the capital where it was already >1/3 when I took over.
I completed Steam Power at the end of this turn. I'm going to put of levees in the 5 main cities, increasing the hammer output of those cities by 50-75%.
Palace was moved here a turn or two ago. I did the math and slipping the Levee in starting next turn will not slow down Oxford at all. Levee will take 5 turns + 3 to complete Oxford, or 8 to complete Oxford as-is. Here the Levee more than doubles production since every tile is riverside. After Oxford it'll be Bank. This it the gamble that I've been taking. If TT and AT gun for us instead of C-H then we're toast. But I figured it was better to try for catching up to TT and taking 2nd then to build military and continue falling behind economically. TT went for Steel, so we still have a shot at Communism. It could be about 6 turns absolute minimum (given immediate Wealth builds everywhere to fund research) but I'm shooting for about 8 turns because I don't want to stop the Levee builds. Cities that can't build Levees I may put immediately to Wealth builds as a couple more Rifles won't save us anyway if either of the two big dogs come for us. I'll evaluate that more in a turn or two after I see TT's next move. We can see his research.
I PM'ed B4ndit about taking over for me when I leave for vacation. I'd like to play a few more turns first and see if I can grab Communism and pop out another GPerson at the same time for an immediate GA. If we do that and then go immediately to Steel + RR to get some defenses in place and mobile enough for all fronts then I think we'll be able to pull ahead of TT.
Neither AT nor TT have cash in hand to fund research, and I just spent the first turn towards Communism research. 4 more to go, and no coin flips with PBEM so I think we've locked in the free GSpy.
I put the first turn into SciMethod. Next turn I complete Liberalism which will overflow move than the 400 beaker deficit to bring Communism down to a 2-turn tech. After this turn it's Lib (1) + SM (1) + Comm (2) = 4 turns and enough cash enough money in the bank to fund that By the time we get Communism I'll have a Levee up in the old Capital which will probably hammer out the Kremlin ... although looking at the screenshot here I just remembered that I'm popping out a GPerson there for the GA, so the hammer output will be limited for a couple more turns after that. I may put Kremlin somewhere else, wherever it builds fastest. Since I don't know for 100% that we need 2 GP for the next GA and not 3 I've hired more specialists in another city. If not needed for this GA these will hopefully pop out an Engineer that can be used for something (Pentagon?) or go towards the next GA. The hammer has fallen on C-H so I'm hoping we're going to be spared the armies of of AT and TT. If we can last 15 turns we'll have Steel + RR for defensive units, have half of a MoM-boosted GA remaining, and maybe still have a shot at taking the free GScientist from Physics. If we really are on the 2-man GA now then One of the goals in the GA should be to try and get out more GP to stack another GA on the end. There is an interesting tactical conundrum in the above screenshot. Apparently city gifting is on, which is good for TT because it gives him 1st ring culture. I think that C-H would have been OK keeping his city, because with both of the major powers having armies in the area neither one could hit first because once the first army attacked and C-H's culture dropped then the other army could have hit whoever captured the city. As it is, TT has to be careful where his army goes, because if AT DoW's and captures the city with 2-movers and the dropping of TT's could leave his army vulnerable if he's not careful.
Lots of good news from this turn ... but no screenshots
– We got Communism, and nobody has SciMethod so Kremlin is pretty much guaranteed – Mouse-over on GSpy indicates we only need one more GPerson for a GA. He will be born in three more turns – Oxford completed EOT, and with Bank + Market + Grocer coming online in 3, 2, and 2 turns respectively our GNP is rocketing up again. We are neck-and-neck with TT in GNP. – Levees completed in all major cities, and even whipped in a couple smaller cities where whipping just removed working water tiles ... this puts our MFG ahead of TT and into 2nd – AT continues to move against C-H, and I have complete visibility of TT's territory due to a few sentries and TT's armies are stationed near the C-H border. We have at least a few more turns before having to worry about defending our homeland. – I just researched Aesthetics at 20%, and get Literature next turn for the Heroic Epic and National Epic, and the gold saved at 80% over those two turns will be enough to power through Steel and half of RR. So within 6 turns at most we'll be constructing RR arteries for troop movement, have our first round of cannon out of the high-hammer cities, and begin production on a round of Machine Guns. I have 3 more days of taking turns, and we've been doing 1-2 turns/day so that's probably 4-6 more turns. I'll PM and email B4ndit when I'm ready to hand over the civ.
Last post here for a while. If you need me for anything, please contact me via gmail or PM as I will probably not check the forums again for a month.
Some closing screenshots and remarks: From last turn ... Kremlin started. Should be able to get this easy as nobody even has SciMethod yet. 2nd GPerson for the GA pops out next turn And the massive powerhouse of a capital. 7 more turns and we can add that final mine. What civics do you want to have at the beginning of the GA? End? I'll leave that up to you to decide based on how you want to play. Graphs in spoilers Demographics at 100% science. I did the math and filled in TT's numbers. |
