We'll see how things go, but I'm afraid the gold will start to show pretty early and mack won't do anything to derail his start because that's how he plays. This is a lesson for players (learned yet again): Don't get in a hurry with the map. Make sure that the map is going to give you the game that you really want to be playing in three months, not the game that you assume will be fine, there's no need to wait another couple of days for balancing because everything will be fine so let's just get going...
I hope I'm wrong here.

Yeah, mack with gold at his start is gg.
In fairness, mack joining the game was probably gg.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

All my bitcoins on Mack. Only way he doesn't stomp everyone is if "mackoti's cousin" takes over his game again.

I would say that 1 good food resource + gold is, in isolation, not far off in quality from 2 good food resources. (And you'd certainly prefer 1 food resource over 1 gold.) But 2 good food resources is all you really need. Past that, the benefits are reduced.
These capitals are very resource-rich. As such, the gold is worth more than a marginal food resource - both because additional food can't be used efficiently to grow, and also because increasing the happy cap is more valuable due to the strength of the city.

Yeah, I think you have a point there. It probably depends on how much value the others can gain by sharing their extra resources. I think it also favours mackoti's playstyle of sacraficing some expansion for tech.

Mack plan: Augustus. get hammers out of the gold and spam settlers. Grow to size 5, keep score low so that other mortals get a false feeling of hope, split off either wheat or rice to second city and work wheat and 4 mines. Palace and gold for tech, cottages are for pussies. Real men like hammers. Spam settlers, ORG discount keeps things afloat. 10 forests become 4 in a flash and 6 settlers spawn from the ether. At ten cities, Math, HG, and hax to get to knigs within 25 turns. Then everyone blames the lurkers for letting it happen.

Mack doesn't like to chop settlers and he usually cottages his capital.

How would you (or anyone) know? M#reportingisforpussiestoo
Except, yes, plainsfood was tremendous. Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.
M# is shorthand for mack probably taking over hashtags eventually too, on his way to RL planetary domination. You heard it here first.

I've talked to mackoti many times about Civ(97% of my RB gchat contacts are still opponents from the days of full diplo, oddly enough.) Anyway, you never get the whole idea but you can get just enough to make you think. He's constantly evolving, though, so some of my ideas there were gleaned as long as 3 years ago so I can't promise their current accuracy. That he's constantly evolving is why he's constantly winning, of course.
