what do you think here, borsche? should we just go for Shaka if we can? then pick a civ on the return trip? or should we just pick a civ while we can?

both mao and inca are still unpicked, although it looks like inca won't really work out here for us, with the starting techs that we need. could try to sim it out I suppose... I just noticed that the hill 2S1W of our settler is a PH, which could affect some timings...

I just checked, and Fishing/Mining and Hunting/Mining starts end up being virtuallyidentical, both in beakers and hammers with an Expansive leader. (At T33, a fishing start is at size 4, 2 food in the bin, 1 worker, both seafood netted, 15 raw overflow, in slavery, settler settled; the hunting start has 10 more food in the bin, but 6 less raw overflow hammers; also, it has a bonus mined hill.)

(first 2 sheets here; the tech costs might be over-estimated, couldnt check what they were on a large map for this difficulty since I'm on my work comp right now HEH)

So, we can pick whatever we want here, from our shortlist at least... leaning a bit towards Shaka, since pottery is gonna have to come a bit later, after we have both hunting, fishing, and BW. (~T40ish or so)

I probably like Shaka the most, with Joao and Mao behind that.

As far as Civs go, Rome, Carthage, and Khmer are all still available. Portugal is an interesting option. Zulu doesn't have the ideal starting techs but they're still really good, especially with snagging Shaka.

Leader first is probably ideal here, since it feels like there's still a good number of nice civs left to pick. Depends on what people choose with the next 5 picks.

Ok, lets grab Shaka if we can then, since it sounds like we'll have a choice of 5 or 6 different good civs to choose from; back to the drawing board if someone else snags him first.

worldbuilder start if you're interested in playing around; its shaka/khmer right now, but you can change it by creating a worldbuilder save from it, editing the leader or civ, and then playing that.
