Yeah I'll do that then. I'm not quite sure if it would be worth killing the GJ scout. He can gain very little info without declaring war himself, as our borders seal off the land, and we won't be able to stop him getting city visibility without being hyper aggressive, so I think in essence it is better to leave things as they are, and to try not to antagonise. Shall we go Balotelli for the new warrior as we talked about him so much? I agree with the city growth, but it will come quicker than you think with granaries. We should do a 2-1 slave in most cities for the granary to get them online ASAP. I think we could get another settler out in about 10-15 turns chopped from the cap, but not 100% sure exactly. Growth to size 4 with a gran and the corn/clams will be fast and we could easily whip it then.

So turn 45...

First thing I did was try to calculate when we needed a workboat for the fish, and for some reason it seemed wildly sooner than I originally thought. Then I realised that we got religion spread to EA smile free culture always helps! Would have been a bit more useful in camp nou, but I'm not complaining. That extra culture means that the turn the borders expand we can net the fish for CN.

Mine online with 1 of the workers next turn for silver, any idea what we want to do with the other? We can either move him to a forest for a settler chop in the cap or waste that turn and be ready to cottage the sugar next turn. I think getting a cottage on the sugar is better for long term benefits myself.

Pottery and the chop comes in next turn, with the cap growing to size 2. With the chop and working the clam+grass mine we can get the granary slavable in 2 turns if we switch prod next turn. I think that would be a good idea, and we can slave when the food bar will reach half full state, IE optimal time, and go back to growing on the workboat.

MCG should also switch to a granary, but what about Camp Nou? I think it should probably finish it's warrior as otherwise we will lose the prod to decay but I am not 100% certain on that.

My other screenshot didn't take, but you can just see GJ scout 3 E of MCG (they haven't played yet). I moved injured Webb onto our neutral road and after that shot was taken moved the unamed warrior out of MCG to the forest east, so wherever he puts the scout in our territory we can kill him. Likely he will just go to the forest for city vis without war dec, but you never know.

I kept imbramovic in the forest, no new troops/movements, but they have roaded the tile 1E of their new city.

Messi survived the lion with decent health, and so I kept on going. I chose to hug the coast rather than take the hills to allow trading should we find anyone, and also there was less chance of something being there to eat him/more def bonus in the forest. Still no borders seen though.

The workboat has spotted wheat for a fertile north! Does however mean that the city for those crabs up top will really need to either be on either the grassland 1S of the workboat or the plains forest 1SE as we dont want to kill the wheat settling on it. Not quite sure what would be better, but my gut says the grassland, as we gain 2 BFC forest, and trade 1 grassland and ocean for a grasshill and plains, plus a lot more coast tiles.

Cottaging the sugar should be our priority, it's a good tile that we're going to use anyway. A city on the grassland tile would allow us 8 chops, it's huge ! I'm even wondering whether it would be better to get Moai there instead of the copper city. Once again it's going to be a long term vs short term decision. It's probably better to build it in the copper city though, we'd then use only copper plus all coastal tiles while with the grassland city we'd be either working lots of land tiles or wasting many good tiles.

I hope Messi can find our northern neighbor soon, I suggest going NE next turn (and then decide where to go from there with the second movement point, depending on what we see).

My wild guess about having a strong tile on the island in the north came out true, maybe I should buy a lottery ticket next week ? Anyway we'll have a decent city up there I suppose, that's good news. Also notice that there's a river starting NE of that wheat, so it's not a 2 tile island and will probably provide us with strong opportunities.

Cool, glad you agree with the worker cottaging.

Re the moai, I think it is still better in the western copper city, as that has very limited good tiles to work if it is not a moai city. Whereas in the northern city we would waste river grassland or moai coast as we would be pushing the happy limit hard until late game. We should probably use that forest to chop a wonder out of there with the marble mid game. Perhaps MoM? marble maths chops are 45hammers a piece, so all 8 will get us the wonder purely chopping. But just contemplating. The cap BFC chop will probably go before then anyway.

Yeah hopefully Messi will find some stuff soon. Also good fogazing. I didn't actually look at the wheat too much, but that means it is irrigated and you're right a decent sized landmass. Maybe we can even find some huts there, or is that too much to ask? tongue

Messi's moved 1NE, I'm not sure where to go now :

I suppose we're taking c1 and not woodsman ? I was thinking we could go 1E now and NNE next turn, do you agree ?

Still status quo with GJ

WB chopped in EA, I queued a granary after that. Camp Nou is working the corn and the silver, we're getting sailing in 5 turns. We're first (tied) in GNP but of course we have hinduism helping us there. Still 25bpt is nice at this stage, 21 at breakeven.

Hart is going towards the sugar but is currently outside our cultural borders, so I pulled back Webb to MCG to avoid losing gold to unit maintenance.

Waiting for your input on Messi.

1E is good for Messi, and N NE for the move after. I don't really mind what is chosen, I think combat 1 might be better if we are leaving him in the open a bit but there is not much in it.

Did GJ move to scout to see MCG?

Also re the cap, I thought we should change to a granary this turn. That way we can work the clam and the mine, and whip it at the best point for granary regrowth. This would although make the city small again, give us the best long term growth as with the fast granary we would quickly get back up the sizes (especially when we can take the corn back for the cap) as the workboat is a scouting unit it is of lower priority in my mind.

MCG's scout is nowhere to be seen.
I was doubtful at first but building the granary first won't delay the wb too much so it's alright.

Messi revealed a jungled banana, the water was a lake.

Yeah it seems crazy to whip to size 1 again, but if we do it at the correct time, ie food bar half full, we will reach size 3 quicker than if we grow to size 2 first and get a lot more hammers out of it. We just need to be careful of whipping anger and probably may need a warrior at size 3.

I jumped in the game, realized there were units to move for whom I wasn't sure what was optimal, and decided I'd be better off packing my stuff and leaving civ stuff for tomorrow morning. As I said in the PB23 thread I'm staying at a friend's house next week and won't have as much computer access as I usually do. But he has civ 4 so I'll be able to play some turns if need be, and follow the forum threads.

I'm working all weekend but shouldn't have too many problems playing a turn a day unless we get sucked into a turn split. I'll jump in in a second, once HAK is out. I seem to have a bad hosts file despite it working for me a week ago or so.

So I played the turn and you are right, we should have talked about this earlier. Because I didn't play last turn I forgot the workers needed new actions this turn!

So messi first.

Next turn NE? He will get decent visibility there because of the water tile.

The rest of the empire - I switched MCG to a granary. Will need to be whipped anyway most likely so I do not think that will slow us much. We should probably get a chop into it and whip it 3-2.
EA should slave next turn, it is the optimum amount of food in the bar for the granary growth mechanics, and then cont the workboat.
Camp Nou should go warrior - granary also.

Ballotelli warrior should go to the ice hill I labeled in the southwest. Standing on there will prevent any barb spawns in the vicinity, which is very powerful. He shouldn't really attempt to take the lion on on the flat but should be ok otherwise. Started moving webb back to the cap as I think we will need MP for happiness there shortly.

Workers. I thought long and hard about where they should go. I was tempted to start a road to the new city site for the copper city, but eventually thought that he would have hassle from the lion, so I part roaded the corn to start a river cottage for the cap/camp nou next turn. I think that will be best, as either city can use it and get it up to speed.
The other I moved into the forest third ring of the cap. My gut feeling says to help get cottages up in MCG but at the same time he can chop for the cap too if we would prefer.

Any thoughts/comments?
