I'm pretty sure pikes defend better against knight's than muskets, but if Xenu is on the cusp on Gunpowder I guess we should try to 1 last pick before we back off.

I'm finally doing some simming, let's see what happens:
Run 1: No promotions/fortify on either side, All Cats bombard, Knights->Maces
Losses: 6 Knights, 6 Maces--this isn't a good start at all, but I doubt this is anywhere near an optimal order
Run 2: Full promotions/fortify for xenu, CR1 on Cats only, 17/5 Cats bombard/suicide, Maces->Pikes->Knights
Losses: 5 Cats, 4 Maces, 3 Knights--that is shockingly better, since it's the same number of troops, but fewer hammers (since Cats cost less than Maces or Knights), and this takes into account a one-sided view of the promotions.
Run 3: Full promotions/fortify for xenu, CR1 on Cats/Maces(/Pikes), C2 on Knights, 17/5 Cats bombard/suicide, Maces->Knights
Losses: 5 Cats, 2 Maces--holy crap that's good--I forgot how much of a difference CR promotions make on my melee units (since I didn't have many/any last attack).
Run 4: Run 3, but xenu upgrades the 4 Archers to Longbows and the 1 Axe to a Mace (and they lose their fortify when they upgrade, right?)
Losses: 5 Cats, 5 Maces, 2 Knights--that's not horrible, and this is by far the worst case (since it assumes xenu has infinite gold for upgrades--the more-realistic worst case is a combination of a couple upgrades and a couple promotions)
I think this is worth it, but the fact that xenu's power still towers over ours is worrisome--I'll wait a bit for input, then play the turn tonight.
Edit: Screw it, I moved in--we aren't winning this game if we wait for plako to devour xenu, and right now we've gained nothing from this war except a spot for a city we haven't even founded yet. I didn't join this game just to try to keep the game moving (even if it was my primary motivation ), I want to try to improve our standing, if not win

There was a stack of a bunch of various units that wiped out my Knight stack a while back that included some Knights, as well as some Cats--I might have a picture when that happened somewhere--but a lot of the hopes of this attack come from xenu having to move that stack to the western part of his territory to defend/counter-attack xenu.

Might want to thrown in 1 or 2 more sucide cats for some better results especially since it is very likely he will be reinforcing his units.

Well, I've played the first part of the turn, and it's...interesting, if anything. To start with, let's check how things are going at SS:
Well, though all the simming possibilities, "a couple whips (including at least one spite whip unfortunately" and a full-fledged retreat" wasn't one I really considered. The combat wasn't too spectacular--bombard with 15 Cats (down to 40%), suicide 4 Cats (with the 4th retreating ), bombard the leftover 3 I didn't need, then easily cleanup with a mix of Maces and Pikes (so I'd have a mix of units defending the Cats for certain). We kept both the Granary and Forge in the city, so I kept it just as we planned. After a bit scouting and killing the jungle axe, here's how the picture looks like:
Yes, Krabbeweisen has no units in it--apparently this is a full retreat
I haven't ended turn yet, for a couple reasons. The main reason is that I'm not sure what I want to do with my remaining Knights--I could do anything with them, but I see two main possibilities: either attacking the retreating stack (which I actually don't get horrible odds on; ~25% with my C2 Knight against the top-defending Pike) or defending the main city--defending one of the two side stacks is a small possibility to assure I take (and almost certainly burn) Krabbe next turn, but I don't think it's worth it at this moment.
The other reason I haven't ended turn yet is that I'm not 100% sure which tech I want--I'm pretty sure I want to continue along the Music line, but there's the choice of either Literature or Drama. I'm pretty sure I want Literature for the national wonders (and it's cheaper), but if you have any input BaII, now would be the time!
So this turn is great, right? If I had written this post right after the military actions, I would be in a pretty good state. However, I forgot to get a couple pictures, so I had to log back in to get those--including the event log, which showed that xenu burned Duncan to the ground!
When I played the turn, before taking action at SS, I noticed xenu had dropped off a Mace with his Galley, and I moved a couple Knights from the interior to take it out--I actually got unlucky and lost the first Knight at 95% odds, and I thought that was the worst part of the turn. It wasn't until the second login when I noticed the city ruins under the Mace--I didn't even think to look at the tracker while I was having all the problems bouncing off people. Of course, in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't notice--making such a bone-headed move (I could have moved one of the Longbows over and have been safe, or even just upgrading the Phalanx to the Mace would have significantly improved my odds) would have completely thrown me off if I would have noticed it first (or was having to stew over it while waiting to log in). It also wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been--Xenu actually sacrificed a Knight first, and it had 33% odds to win--imagine having to deal with a Knight and the Mace?
Anyway, what's done is done--I even profited on the hammer exchange not counting the city (Knight+Mace vs Knight+Phalanx)--and now we have to move forward. Obviously I'm re-founding Duncan; the only question is where the settler's coming from--I could either build it somewhere or move the settler designated for the southern C city. Any thoughts BaII?

I think we just use the city we had orginially designated for c. Also how did the Gallery get all the way over there 0_0. Too bad they got a lucky dice roll, I think the knight is still in the gallery so I think a Tiermeme would be a good idea right now. Also let's go through literature because I think we have the HE unlocked already and it would be very beneficial to the war effort, I think once u burn down the abandoned city we need to make sure that Xenu can't take back SS because the infrastructure is pretty nice.
