T160 Report:
Of course, the second half of the turn was boring--I moved the settler north to resettle Duncan, moved the Knights into SS (which needs a better name--do you have the list of upcoming city names?), and doled out a couple promotions (notably on the small stack 1W of SS). I also did a couple Grocer whips. Since we don't have important military stuff, let's do a domestic overview and some demo analysis!

Any idea on where Heroic Epic should go? The obvious place is Troy I think; do you have any other ideas BaII? We also should think about a spot for Moai--maybe Dean or Pierce?

As much as this is about domestic matters, I'm wondering if we should try to get peace again. I just checked, and yes, xenu and plako are still at war at the moment:

Their war's been cold for a while, and xenu doesn't have that many cities left:

That's only five cities, and one is the abandoned Krabbe. We can actually see, or have an educated guess of where all of xenu's cities are:

Krabbe: Abandoned, hopefully will burn next turn, if not in the near-future.
City A (RS/Meer): I have no clue what's here--my plan was to get visibility on it with a galley, but then xenu showed up with 5 naval units tongue
My hope is that I may get this city sometime, but I'm not sure if I will--it depends if xenu ever has to give up his super stack to one of us to save City B or retake SS.
Schwinberg: The capital, where xenu keeps whipping and trying to produce units. I don't know who gets this, but my guess is that I'll cede it to
City B: This is the city I'm least sure about, and this even assumes that the borders we can see are accurate in some fashion, but wherever this city is, I'm assuming it's in the west, and it's the city plako can't currently crack.
FS: I don't think this city is connected to xenu's mainland, and thus I have a feeling neither of us is going to be able to take it for a while--my guess is either I'll get it when I get Astro or can afford a million Galleys and Triremes, or wetbandit is on the landmass, he can take it at his leisure.

Next, let's look at the demos and graphs:

*sigh* This screen is disheartening--yes, the GNP weakness is masked somewhat since we've been running a relatively low slider to backfill techs, and it's still above the median--but the mean is just so high, and so top-heavy to boot. I mean, this could be caused by one of the lead civs backfilling a tech at a high slider (or even a low slider), but I still don't like our position in either GNP or production.

Everyone's power has been relatively stable, but I don't know what's going on with plako--I guess when xenu took back those cities he took out a bunch of plako's power, but plako was able to recover those cities first, then

You can see how much our GNP started to drop once I throttled the slider back as we finished Nationalism--I believe the Aesthetics research will show up on the graph next turn and we should become competitive again.

This is the graph I hate--what can I do to become competitive in production? I've already built most, if not all the forges I can, and after Heroic Epic (which certainly will help) there aren't many sources of production coming up until coal and Railroads, right? Am I supposed to be workshopping more of my tiles?

I'm guessing it's cause we have so few cities compared to the top people as I'm pretty sure they have upwards to 3X our cities at this point.

Yeah, I guess that's part of it--though once we finish with xenu we should be fine. If we burn Krabbe and immediately make peace, we'll be able to build a ton of settlers and settle a bunch of cities: the "Maybe C" city we've been waiting on since before I joined, the plains hill south of Britta, a city in the Krabbe area, and SS will come out of revolt. That will bring us up to 14 cities, and while it's not comparable to the leaders, it certainly is a great improvement. What is our next path then--pushing out Curaissiers and drafting Muskets to try to overwhelm plako (or at least the former xenu lands)? Pushing through to Astro to try take some cities from the sparsely-defended neighbors with the remnants of our army (likely HAK, though wetbandit isn't doing extremely well power-wise either)? Doubling-down on our decent GNP by heading for Banking, Printing Press, and possibly Education? Biting the bullet and realizing we have to get to Rifling to have any shot at this game?

Well I think if we have the luxury PP would be a great pick up though I'm not sure if Plako would streamroll us at that point, hard to say at this point but once we take out Xenu that looks to be a possibility especially since we have a little bit of buffer thanks to Ex-Xenu land.

Which is more important, Printing Press or military techs?

Also, I need to start playing the turn more promptly, to stop xenu from pausing every turn. The problem is that my process for these war turns generally has been:
  • Look at the save, get initial pictures
  • Wait a bit for various reasons (sometimes running a sim or two, but often just trying to get input from you)
  • Play the save and end turn
This turn "play the save and end turn" went into the second half of the timer--that clearly wasn't fair to xenu (even though this is often when he plays, he doesn't have time to play a full war turn). That happened because I was having trouble logging in, and thus couldn't leave a reasonable amount of time to get input without waiting until the morning. If we assume the turn rolls in the morning, if I can log in early afternoon for the initial look and evening for playing the turn, that's much easier for xenu (though when I did that last time, the turn rolled in the evening, which screwed everything up).

Is there any time I know that I can't get you BaII? Similarly, is there an easy to contact you (outside the forum presumably) if there's an important question (for instance, the two important ones this turn were "do I redirect the settler?" and "do I ever consider burning my Knights to take out xenu's stack?") I want an answer to, and the window for me to play the turn (in the first half of the split) is narrow?

I looked at the new turn, pictures are here--overall, things aren't too bad right now. I think my plan is to sac a Cat to kill the Axe/Pike on the jungle hill, but I'm not sure if that's worth sacing a Cat and diverting two units (likely Maces). I also want to move all my Knights next to Krabbe, along with the two Maces that survived. Any thoughts BaII?

I also am heading to Gunpowder next over Music--more people have Gunpowder than Music I think, and Gunpowder gives us the ability to draft Muskets in a worst-case scenario. Paper->Printing Press is still a possibility, but it looks like fewer people have PP than I thought, and it's an expensive tech.

I will generally be checking the forum right after i get back from school so around 3:30 PM EST would be around the time I check this thread so around that time would be a good time to reach me. Also any day where the next day is a weekday I will be able to check around nighttime.

Okay, that's good to know--so any thoughts on the new turn? wink

Well I think we should spend a few knights to burn the city as it's less units he can whip out. I think we can just wait it out for a bit and research some economic techs right now because we have a much higher MFG than xenu right now thanks to more cities and once he runs out of pop to whip out units with we should be in good shape replenish some of our knights and we should be in good shape to capture the last of Xenu's cities.

Turn finished, pictures are here, hopefully I'll get a report done tomorrow--important points if I don't get around to it are that I switched to Paper and bumped the slider to 100% to finish it in one turn, and I cleared the jungle hill at the cost of a Cat and a Mace (Mace lost at 70% odds--I could have saced another Cat, but that's a known loss vs a possible loss--it was a calculated risk, and hopefully it doesn't hurt us too badly frown ).
