[NO PLAYERS] Lurker Thread #115

Nah, he said he was getting CS minimum T103, looks like it'll be a bit earlier.

I think I'll back Jowy. He's planning to disconnect REM's island iron and he should succeed. The other iron is right by his border, where REM hasn't settled yet. Would anybody give Byzantium iron when they've rushed for Guilds?

Anyone think REM should get HBR before guilds to queue-upgrade HAs to Cataphracts? He says he's got some defensive units to build, but surely he can get those before t100 and get an extra couple of turns production into his main event.

Otherwise it looks like this could be a textbook Byzantium game popcorn. Wonder how Jowy will counter it...

Even with Cataphracts, it doesn't look like REM has any production available to build many of them quickly. A size 8 cottage capital and a couple size 4 cities does not pump knights quickly; at least half of what he'll get will have to come out of New New York. Queue-upgrading horchers (and cash-upgrading them too) would make a big difference for his attack timing, I think.

That said, throw my hat in the ring for Jowy too.

I think retep wins this game. Especially if Jowy and REM fight, retep will start to cash in on his expansion and infra to a point that it won't be possible to contest it anymore.

And I think retep is the best player on this field, too. But that's just a matter of opinion.

Ah, I missed that. I'd be tempted to sell him Iron for a high price then cut it off at some important moment to make him waste some hammers mischief. Obviously that would only happen if I was a looooooong way away from the now-enraged Byzantines. shhh

No argument from me. REM also appears to know what he's up to, but we'll see if that's smoke and mirrors over the next 20 turns or so...

I count 18t of tech on Jowy's screenshot before he has Pikes (that's assuming the pre-req bonuses balance the end of golden age), which I think makes it 5-10t too late if REM is going to have Cataphracts on t105.

Maybe, I think the largest remaining question is how many phracts REM will have by then. He seems to have a relatively small production and population base to use building them. If he can't mass produce enough to overwhelm his victim quickly I don't think it will matter that much if the victim is a few turns late to pikes. If it's a long delay, though, that would be trouble.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

I could use the happy and a friend. Not like he really needs my Iron anyway to later build 'Phracts, he has a secure source on an island.
