ISDG 2012 flame war

----- FTR I am an actual Insurance Lawyer so good call Darrell... very perceptive. FYI before that I was in Foreclosure law, as-in, the law firm who takes peoples homes for the bank and throws them out on the street when they can't pay their mortgage (seriously...no joke)... So take that for what it is. FWIW I do use the money I earn to buy xmas gifts and food etc for my wife and kids... I also coach little league.

I have NEVER, and would never, place a puppy in a blender... I have however, trapped and/or killed several mice in my home as well as, wasps, bees, ants and flies. I also enjoy eating fish, cow, pig, chicken, turkey and lamb.

I very egotistically went through and looked at some of the comments about me in this thread, and what I have to say is thank you guys very much for participating in the ISDG 2012. RB proved exactly why they have such a feared reputation, you have a brilliant core of players and your performance was amazing. I also want to express my gratitude to your team for filling an essential role in any story. You guys really were the top-dog/bad guy for everyone else to be afraid of and gun for. Any story/game worth its salt has to have someone to chase that is worth chasing and you were it. Without diplo you guys would have owned, period... Your micro (and macro) was a wonder to behold. Thank you for introducing me to your great forum... I never would have known about it if not for your agreement to participate in this game.

I am almost hesitant to say this b/c I realize that having an unpopular person praise you does not always necessarily enhance your rep (and vice-versa - see darrell's coment above), and I really don't need to promote Cal b/c it seems his reputation is secure here (and deservedly so) but since he so richly deserves it, I will say anyway Caledorn is one of the best hearted, sensitive, considerate, fair-minded, generous people I have ever met online. It is my honor and privilege to know him and converse with him. He saved the game by giving up his player role to host and I am very grateful to him. I will be happy to play any game with Caledorn

I do not hesitate to say that 2metra is one of my dearest and closest online friends and civ-buddies. He is also a player of the highest honor and integrity. Death to any who critisize his character, you are unequivocally wrong to do so.

(only half-joking about the "Death-to" part... seriously, 2metra and me, we ARE LIKE THISS!!! *holds pointer and middle finger finger tightly together to illustrate closeness*)

I regret that I could not be as big a part of the game as I originally intended, but overall maybe it was for the best, because in my zeal to get the game started (while still selfishly insisting on MY terms to an extent) I made alot of enemies and alienated many people, especially here, so in some ways, I was poison... I basically sacrificed my ability to enjoy/participate in the name of creating something for others to enjoy (OK that's enough patting myself on the back)... It really is a shame because I (as mackoti points out in this thread) was one of the first people to let bygones be bygones once the game started and advocate in favor of an early alliance with RB. Alas, the well, even on my own team, let alone RB was already too poisoned... And since I was one of the main people doing the poisoning, I have to take ownership of that.

Lastly, but certainly not least... I owe plako an apology, and so:

I apologize to plako for being hostile, rude and suspicious of him and also for being prejudiced against him as a admin. I fully admit that I was against him being the admin for purely self-serving (from a Team CFC perspective) reasons. For one I was jealously guarding the superficial "host" status of CFC as I felt a personal stake in the game as an organizer. But I was also primarily paranoid that plako intended to ban espionage in a way that would benefit RB unfairly, and I did not hesitate to openly state so. Alot of virtual ink has been spilled (much of it by my good friend 2metra) giving me credit for organizing the game. But plako deserves credit, alot of it and he should be thanked, by me especially, given how I treated him. Thank you very much plako for helping this game happen. Also thank you Caledorn, Yossarianlives, Mackoti and even LP for the vital role he played... and most of all thank you to 2metraninja my partner in all this.

FIN

Well said. You probably don't owe us (RB) anything but, speaking only for myself here, I appreciate the sentiments and I'm willing to move on and let the past be done. We certainly bashed you plenty and made you the villain of the story. Factionalism is natural. Life is a series of "us versus them" situations, played out over and over until you (we) die. For competition, this factionalism is good and provides compelling interest for the competition. When it gets personal, as it did during the setup phase and carried over into the game, it can become unhealthy and negative, as it did here. That is regrettable. But that is also over and done with. So again, speaking only for myself, I'm done Sommer-bashing. As fun as it was, and I DO love a good villain to bash, I'd like to talk about Civ now and not about hostilities and conflicts from a long time ago that are external to the game.

On a personal level, I work in education and today I'm in the process of evicting students from College housing, throwing them out into the street if necessary. The semester is over, it's time for these guys to go home and leave me the hell alone. I don't even coach little league, so I don't have the highest moral ground to stand on. Whaddya know? People who are mortal enemies (DEATH TO CFC FOREVER!) on the one hand are not so dissimilar on the other. Peace.

This is about this thread approaching 8000 views. 9000 was a translation error. Of course, if you have a power level of over 8000 it's possible for you to have a power level of over 9000. But that's not possible because Goku would have beaten Vegeta during the beam struggle in the fight. So Goku didn't actually have a power level of over 9000 and I find that very amusing. In fact I considered starting a new thread about this but slipping it in here is good enough for me. mischief

I just knew the second part of The Most Interesting Caption In The World was going to be "But when I do, I bury it in the back of your dog's skull as hard as possible." That's where veteran puppy killers put it, anyway. devil

I'd like to point out for the jury's benefit that he didn't actually apologize for turning trolling you chumps into the game heavy. Conciliatory tone is affected, and you're all still puppets. tongue

Sommer is such a jerk he comes over here and pretends to be nice and reasonable to make us feel bad for calling him out for being a jerk.

Or, possibly, the account is a Sulla sock puppet.

There should not be such a thing as a veteran puppy killer. It is very hard for me to reconcile that we have the same genetic material sometimes. shakehead

Affected or not, I choose to be done with the hostility. What purpose does it serve? Also, you're pointing this out for your own smugness at this point, not for the benefit of anyone else and this only serves to continue the antagonism For what? Your own amusement or self-aggrandizement because you chose not to play in the game where we got beat? If we're puppets (again, you're not the best person to make that particular accusation) I could say worse of you here but I'll refrain. Sorry, not sorry.

I don't think anyone should feel bad, but perhaps that enough is enough? If I wanted to get onto the internet to talk badly about people I'd go to a different site. But I think I detect sarcasm here and you're actually trolling for peace? wink

Ok, maybe this. But if so, we'd never get confirmation so it will just be an urban legend. shades

Despite the lack of smiley that was definitely a tongue-in-cheek half apology smile.

Err, and that was not a joke despite having a smiley.

Sommer is being conciliatory because he has the smug air of victory behind him and getting us to polish his apple buffs his outsized ego.

2metra's comments in this thread are similar but he's proven himself to be a decent enough guy elsewhere on the forum so I'm plenty happy to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Commodore is always on team Commodore is right, only more smugly so when people he particularly dislikes can be painted as wrong. Which basically makes him Krill but less good at civ.

Boldly is always too nice.

Xenu is always trolling, but isn't as good at it as...

Darrell is always trolling - when you think he isn't trolling, he's generally trolling hardest.

This has been your thread meta report for 12 December 2014.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

About on whose level am I as a troll? If only there were some kind of troll tier list I could judge myself by.... I'd hate to find myself in over my head against someone three tiers above me. wink
