Make the city a one tile island. Then the ai can't move units out... then end turn three times and add another spear and a way for you to get there.
Then save it and run the attack several times (ten+).

Meant to post this earlier but forgot....from last turn:
Lots has been happening in the world. After Dreylin went to war with REMAI and took their island, they also had a brief war with dtay. Not sure what transpired, since I couldn't see details.
GermanJoey circumnavigated the world, and lots of other things as you can see happened.

Sorry, I let my laptop at work on Friday ... Can't run civ on an iPhone ... Old Harry's suggestion is good. Make sure that you have settings such that you get a new random seed when you reload (the sim is set up that way so you can start with a copy of that). And as he mentioned, be sure to save after setting it up and then run it many times. I would turn off animations, put all WC on the same tile, and then use "Stack Attack" a dozen times. If you take the city a couple times, or at least once, you can try unit-by-unit attacks in different combinations to try and optimize the attack order. EDIT: I think "Quick Combat" is what turns off the attack animations.

Now, on to this turn. My attack was successful, and I only lost 1 Chariot (the first one that attacked) so far. I'm sure I'll lose a LOT more next turn, depending on what he has in his borders that I can't see. Any number of units back there can sweep in and kill off most (if not all) of my WCs.
As you can see, after I razed the city, I killed a Spear he had south of it to capture two workers. I probably should have just deleted the workers so he couldn't take them back by just simply killing the wounded WC that was there with them. But instead I moved the rest of my WCs to that tile as "protection". But if he has at least 5 units in range...he can likely kill all of those WCs and take back his workers next turn.
I offered in Peace Treaty when I was done. Obviously he won't accept it as soon as he logs in, but if I'm lucky he'll realize that I wasn't doing an all out invasion. The peace offer signifies that I simply didn't want him to settle a city that far west, right up against my borders. And if I'm lucky (which I doubt LOL), he'll offer peace back without killing any of my units. Or at most, he'll kill a few (as payback) and then offer peace.
But I doubt I'll be the lucky. With the way his power graph was going up (and his was slightly higher than mine), he probably has a nice stack of stuff right out of my view...which he'll send in, kill all my stuff...and then push forward in his own attempt to raze my city in retaliation.
Basically, next turn at this point will determine everything. I do at least have more troops (Axes, Spears, & Archers) almost to Golden Grahams for a strong defense. The borders also pop at the end of this turn, which will add more defense, and I'm building Walls which would hopefully be done before any invasion of his reaches me. Plus, with the completion of Construction, I'm now building a handful of Catapults.

One of these days, I'll get the hang of doing wartime stuff and a way that doesn't get me all screwed in the aftermath. But at least I finally took the initiative, attacked early, and got use out of those War Chariots I chose this civ for. Even if it ends up a complete failure for me....at least I did what I intended before the game started.

And peace has been signed. I saw Gavagai logged back in again this turn after my attack, so I also logged back in to see if he had a response to my peace offer. And after offered the peace back to me. So peace has been signed without the loss of any additional units of mine. So now I just need to build up defenses to make sure he can't attack me in 10 turns or anytime soon after that. We'll have to see if he resettles that city spot at any point, but at least I'll have plenty of culture pushing out of Golden Grahams by the time that happens.

Cornflakes, so I forgot to post this one yesterday.....
Any chance you can help me try to come up with some sort of dot map for this northern crap desert land to my north? I should try to get a couple more cities up there. At least one to secure that Iron in case (or for when) I lose Golden Grahams to Gavagai which is the only other source of Iron around.

Next up is the tech tree:
Is heading for Civil Service the best thing for me right now? I see Gavagai is only 3 turns from Machinery, and we have our Peace Treaty for at least the next 7 turns. So my assumption is that he's going to build up, and then try to attack me. So as much as I wanted to be able to get to Courthouses, Irrigation, and Bureaucracy....I might need to get some better military techs as well. Swordsmen will do nothing for me defending against an attack. And right now, I'm not going to be going on the offensive anytime soon to anyone. Any more wars will likely be defending against Gavagai and/or mackoti.

Way down in the south, our friends down there have gotten themselves onto our continent as expected. One city we can see from a recent map trade with someone. And they obviously have a city further north by the Copper, since the map shows a road with the resource needing improvement.
And back north, we see mackoti has built another city further west on the little stretch of land...which I expected, since I'd have done the same thing:
I'll need to get a city to the spot I have marked ASAP to stop him from making any cities in that southerly direction. I believe I'm correct in that being the best spot. Since that stops him from settling a city on the hill north of the Rice. Though if I do that, he may take that as a reason to attack me. Not that he really needs a reason. I'm sure he'll decide I'm way weaker (both as a player and even as a civ right now) Gavagai. My only hope is that he decides to attack Gavagai at some point, with the hopes that I would then attack him from the other side. Get right of the stronger player first, and then he can deal with me.
