thank you, Harry!

Ooohhh, I could take Aztecs... or do I want Zulu???!??

that corn is in an annoying spot, I'd have to burn two grasslands on farms to irrigate it at CS.

man, this is a really tough choice. gotta sleep on this.... my thoughts so far is to pick one of the Big Three civs, and then count on picking from a leader with one specific trait:

1.) Zulu w/ Agg, either Fin, Spi, Imp, or Ind. (Ragnar, Montezuma, Genghis, or Stalin. I'd say Shaka too, since this is a nice Exp capital and we get a 10T worker, but TBS would probably never talk to me again if I pick that guy for the third time, almost for the fourth... lol)

2.) Aztecs with... Imp? Either Justinian, Augustus, or divine Julius I think. Maybe Viccy? Team badass has Viccy of Aztecs in PB18, seems to be working out pretty well, lol...

3.) Inca with Pro, probably Saladin or Poppa Ooh Mao Mao.

Leaning towards Zulu... I mean, how can you not with a start like this? I was like 100% sure I was picking Aztecs before I saw my start, if I had at least one Pastureable available, but then....

Only interested in Ind if I can be the only one with it, of course. I simmed out to T30ish with blank traits, and Zulu gets to see copper before placing their first city, T30 for a 3rd-ringer, which is always very nice.

Simmed this out some, and the straightfoward path of improve the two food then mining, settler at 3, is just too good that I'd want to do it with pretty much every start with pretty much every leader. That means Zulu starting techs are ideal here - I get Ag/Hunt/Mining/BW by like T25 (testing on a large-sized lakes map), settler ready to go by T30. Being able to settle for copper second city with Zulu is just, like, so good... I'm sure that 100T in I'll wish I had the Aztecs, but for now I'll satisfy my inner Shaka.

I also realized that if I went Spi Aztecs, I'd want to try really really hard to get the Oracle, and that'd be a huge gamble if the PB24 snake pick was any indication. There's just so many good civs that start with Mysticism, I bet we also see Inca, HRE, India, etc.

Here's where I'm at for the first 30:

Works out pretty clean, but I wonder if there's a way I can roll the OF from that first warrior into the settler to get it to finish a turn faster? Perhaps switch to a scout for a turn? Hmmm, I guess it doesn't actually matter unless I have a 1/2 tile, and it doesn't look like I do unless its in the fog... something to remember, though. It's not necessarily terrible to get a lotta raw overflow from a settler, especially if I get copper hooked quick - starting with hunting means that I'd lose cheap warrior garrisons immediately. That said, something I was thinking about was maybe dedicating a 3rd or 4th city to warrior production by simply not hooking up to the rest of my trade route for like a dozen turns. Like, lets say I can get a 2h plant working a grass mine or something, that'd get me 4 warriors within 12 turns. That's 80 hammers saved on garrisons at the cost of 12 beakers, a great deal!!

do you fill out all those cells manually or do you have some wacky calculations being done.

i usually just sim my starts out in SP and then save/reload but doing it in a spreadsheet is probably way faster.

i have a googledoc with the formulas that i made for PB20, and i just copy and paste that spreadsheet for each new game. so, its not too much work, i only have to fill out a few columns by hand. i sim it out in the game too but i dont have the game installed at work ;[
