I just wanted to get my thread created though don't really have anything to put here since I'm at work

I'll post screens of my starting area later, it's decent. I founded in place, have crabs and fresh water rice in first border, will have cows and dyes in second border pop. City is on grassland hill. The only problem would be that it's in a narrow point so very little room for cottaging later as it's mostly water but my scout didn't see anything resource wise to the north and south looked like it could have almost been a dead end.

First tech will be animal husbandry so I can hook up the cows once border pops and to see where there might be some horses as they'll be critical.

Started building a worker but sitting here now I'm feeling a bit paranoid and almost thinking of taking the hit and switching it for a warrior just in case. Sure hope I'm not beside Japan.

Finally my goal: I don't expect to win as I'm not that good of a player and there are some really good ones here. So all I want to do is last long enough and play well enough to have a very strong effect on who does win the game. In other words I want to have an effect on the game's outcome deliberately (ie. not just dying and giving somebody a lot of cities).

Settled (again). It may have made sense to go 7 from where I am to have more grassland for cottaging but I think I've got enough tiles to grow the city pretty large as is there and moving it over like that would make it harder to fit any other cities up there. At least that's what I think.

At first for some reason I thought I was creative, probably because Cyrus used to be. Instead I'm charismatic. That's a bit different, go from no big need for monuments to better get spamming em.

Diplomacy has already started.

me to America Wrote:Greetings America!

As you say it's very early in this game, for some it hasn't even started yet, so it may be premature for talks of alliances and plans. We are certainly looking for peace and not war though. If you have any proposals along those lines then we'd certainly like to hear them. It may be possible to sign a NAP this early with perhaps a provision that neither of us settle within so many tiles of the other person's capital to try to avoid boundary disputes for the time being as we can't be any more specific.

Tech trading is a ways off yet so perhaps just over complicates things for now to bring up?

Let me know your thoughts. I would appreciate of course not sharing any agreements or potential for agreements between our respect civilizations at this point with anybody else and I will of course return the favor.

Persia

America to Me Wrote:I'll give you a guarnatee right now that I won't walk into an unguarded capital if I stumble across it (nor will I do an early Worker swipe). I guess that amounts to a NAP at least until I get my second city up (which can't be too close to your capital, won't be doing any RBP2 moves again!). That strikes me as a foundation to build something bigger and better on :-).

So there's one deal done. I feel better if I can build a bit safely at the start, especially since I've only got a scout.

Byzantium Chat Wrote:Yaz: Hey Dreylin
Dreylin: hi there
Yaz: Diplomacy appears to be off to a roaring start already lol smile
Dreylin: Heh, well I think I'll be keeping quiet for a while
Dreylin: After all, I only know about a ~5x5 tile area!
Yaz: True. I was a bit surprised but then figured better jump in before I find myself on the outside.
Dreylin: Hmmm, maybe so
Yaz: I ended up signing one deal and was wondering if you were interested in same thing. Just a simple no rushing into an empty city, no worker steal or settling to close to each other's capital until turn 40 or there abouts.
Dreylin: Well this is an Archi map so the chances of two civs sharing an Island are pretty slim
Dreylin: Plus 40t on Quick is quite a while
Yaz: True. But then it also means the deal isn't really restricting unless somebody by fluke happens on you. And who wants to lose a worker, or even their capitol, because of that?
Dreylin: Well it is restricting if I were to come across an unguarded Worker / city....
Dreylin: wink
Yaz: You wouldn't be that cruel to steal my poor defencely worker now would yoU? frown
Dreylin: Well it's not my normal playing style, true
Dreylin: but is it so wrong for me to want to keep my options open?
Yaz: Sure it is when the option you want open is to keep poor Doug from digging his ditches frown
Dreylin: But that would only happen if you were silly enough not to give Doug an escort, right?
Dreylin: There's Barbs out there as well as "Civilised" folk
Yaz: Well to be honest nobody really likes Doug, he doesn't shower near enough, so we'd be hard pressed to get anybody to spend days outside with him. But we do like his work at ditch digging. He's a true master.
Yaz: If you don't want to though that's fine. we'll just tell Dough to wear camouflage or something.
Dreylin: TBH, on t1 of the game I'd prefer to keep my options open
Dreylin: My feeling is that 40t is too long for such a deal
Dreylin: I'd be happy to sign something for ~20t to take away the complletely random element though
Dreylin: after that I think everyone should be prepared to defend / protect themselves
Dreylin: I know I will be... wink
Yaz: Fair enough smile I was only bringing it up because somebody else started it and signed with them. Plus I'm one of the poor unfortunates with a scout and not a powerful warrior.
Dreylin: Ah true
Dreylin: Well, does 20t sound reasonable then?
Yaz: Turn 20 works for me if that works for you.
Dreylin: Yep
Yaz: Give you a bit of a reprieve from my immortals perhaps heh
Dreylin: Riiiiight. wink

There's another deal.

France Chat Wrote:Yaz: Hey Krill
Krill PBEM2: hi mate
Yaz: I guess the diplomacy for our game is already starting (even before I played my turn lol)
Krill PBEM2: yeah, seems like it.
Krill PBEM2: that's what happens when unlimited diplomacy is allowed smile
Krill PBEM2: personally I'm not going to try and abuse it
Krill PBEM2: if anyone wants to speak to me my door is always open
Krill PBEM2: and if you all want to gang up on me, 5v1 style I ain;t going to do much about it smile
Yaz: yeah right :P
Krill PBEM2: not like there are another 5 players I can twist to do my bidding, though, is it tongue
Yaz: It looks that way now but I get the feeling you might conjure them up when needed at any time.
Yaz: I was wondering if you'd be interested in the same agreement I just signed with somebody else though (who apparently I'm not allowed to name). That is no rush, no worker steal and no settling too close to the other's capitol for the first bit until at least second cities are up?
Krill PBEM2: If you can get everyone else to agree to that, then I agree to something along those lines until, say, turn 40?
Yaz: Turn 40 would work. I can see what others think. Don't think anybody would probably want to be stuck in some silly early war with these civs anyways.
Krill PBEM2: yup
Krill PBEM2: pretty sure no one could get the galleys out fast enough
Yaz: I'll ask around then and let you know what others say.
Krill PBEM2: cool, thanks mate
Krill PBEM2: btw
Krill PBEM2: are you playing in RBPB3?
Yaz: Nope, got back from my trip too late to join.
Yaz: Trying to keep myself unspoiled though in case somebody drops.
Krill PBEM2: cool
Krill PBEM2: I think Ruff is going afk for 10 days
Krill PBEM2: so he could do with a sub for that time
Krill PBEM2: I think
Krill PBEM2: probably worth asking about if you want to play.
Yaz: Well I'll keep an eye on the IT thread. Problem with subbing for 10 days is you're spoiled if somebody else drops out completely.
Krill PBEM2: true
Krill PBEM2: Do you know of any themes I could use for RBPB3?
Yaz: Nope frown Can't even think one up for this game heh
Yaz: Well guess the deal won't happen between everyone as somebody already refused the terms frown
Krill PBEM2: If you care to tell me who we can make sure they regret it.
Yaz: lol out for blood already? :P
Krill PBEM2: god no
Krill PBEM2: but we could violate their waters with workboats to annoy them!
Krill PBEM2: maybe even choke their seafood if they haven't been hooked up yet smile
Yaz: I'll think about it smile Not sure I want to start breaking diplomatic trust already.
Krill PBEM2: Probably a wise idea smile

No deal with Krill though as his condition is everybody in for 40t.

Chat with Japan Wrote:Yaz: Hey there aggressive Japan
Ruff: Organized Japan to you
Yaz: Ah, good to hear smile
Yaz: Since others started up diplomacy in this game and I signed a deal with one I was wondering if you'd be interested in the same. Basically a NAP for 20t (no rushing into unmanned city, worker stealing, settling to close to others capitol).
Yaz: That way you can stay Organized rather than Aggresive.
Ruff: Who else has been emailing?
Yaz: Part of the dealings was me not saying sorry frown
Yaz: Don't want to turn my name to mud before things even start heh
Ruff: ok - I can work that out. And a NAP sounds like a drink ... so count me in
Ruff: not that I expect us to meet pre 20 turns anyway
Ruff: btw - if you ever want to visit Japan ... just come on over
Yaz: Nope probably won't meet, but just lets us be less paranoid for a bit smile
Yaz: I'll keep that in mind for when my best philosophers figure out where this Japan is.

So 20t NAP with Japan. That leaves only the Natives and France to worry about which isn't too bad odds wise though both start with warriors. I'll contact NA just so they don't feel left out if word gets around.

To Native Americans Wrote:Hey,

Diplomacy has already kicked off so figure I better get in the game as well. I wanted to see if you'd be interested in the same deal somebody else proposed to me earlier, 20t NAP basically so there's no rushing into somebody's unprotected capitol or steals your first worker. Also no settling too close to the other person's capitol. Pretty basic but helps keep the early paranoia down I guess. Let me know what you think. I signed on when it was proposed to me but it's bit of a gamble still if others aren't asked smile

From Native Americans Wrote:Hey,

Yeah - I must admit, I forgot we could contact one another pre meeting in game!

We found you message floating in a coconut. The Native Americans would like to offer you a peace pipe and a fish as a gift of acceptance to your proposal of a 20t NAP in the first instance however, if you would be willing, we would like to be so bold as to suggest a slight amendment? The NAP shall commence from when we meet in game?

I hope this will be acceptable to the great Persian nation and we hope we can work together down the line. Perhaps once the game gets a few turns in we can discuss some potential tech trades to avoid duplication of resources?

All the best,
Sitting Bull aka SL

So there's another deal. Only person I don't have one with is Krill so will probably approach him again tonight about it. Now I feel fine going for worker first. As others have said, chances of running into somebody that early are low but it always seems to happen at some point.

Besides that though I think getting out there and making deals with people is a good diplo way to introduce yourself and start some cooperation. I may have been a bit too pushy with Dreylin though so hopefully that didn't put him off.

I still hadn't gotten the turn back round to me this morning so haven't gotten to play next turn.

To France Wrote:Hey,

I managed to work out individual deals with everybody myself though they vary a fair bit so didn't try to organize some sort of deal between everybody. Was wondering if you'd be open to 20T NAP either from now or starting when we discover each other. Would mean one less person you'd have to worry about rushing you or stealing a worker or resource?

Regards,
Persia

I'm not realy going to negotiate with Krill much as I don't want to push the issue or seem desperate for a deal. Oh the thin lines of diplomacy where you only notice you've strayed usually when it's far too late.

From the French Wrote:Yeah, I'm up for an NAP until 20 turns after we meet.

So that means I've got deals with everybody so no worries about going worker first other than somebody breaking their agreement with me. I'll try not to tempt them too badly.

Hey Yaz,

Sorry to necro your thread but could you play the turn for Greece in RBPB2? Check your team e-mail for instructions. There's only a couple hours left on the timer and I think Jowy might have gone to sleep.
