According to what I scrawled in my thread on the settings post during setup, PB18 is a 60 x 124 (7440 total) cylinder. I haven't actually counted but I'm sure this is accurate since everything matched up when I made a sandbox. Your empire in PB22 is 40 x 59 (2360). That's pretty big, but this almost certainly is somewhat inflated because your empire does not extend equally in all directions. I'd actually be interested in seeing the two maps together.

Hmmm, maybe. My empire is actually pretty rectangular... the central northern bit, with Dominic Deegan, is the only part that really sticks out. So you figure like, 59x34ish + 12*6, something like that? Still over 2000 tiles, and not counting the fact that I control the ice under my borders as well. Anyways, its really big and it drives me freaking nuts when I'm tryin' to swap some tiles around between cities on one end and then the damn game zooms me to a unit 50 tiles away! rant lol

I don't remember what the feature is called but I have to toggle to the next unit after completing every unit action. This helps some with the crazy zooming around the map. But yeah, from inside cities it can be quite a trip back to the last unit. I always try to click on something nearby to avoid being transported into the ether.

Here's another question: how do you have time for two (or more) large, sprawling games? yikes

You can shift-click the active unit to deactivate it.

BGN: I'm not sure I actually do... bang PB18 being only once every 3 days helps a bit there, in a sense. My other games are pretty light-weight at the moment, at least.

flugauto: Are you sure that works? I just tried it and it brought up a context menu, as if I had right-clicked.

T229. I fired my GA this turn, but I wasn't able to finish Artillery this turn. Looks like it'll be 60% this turn and 50% the next; at least I'll bank a lot of gold in the process. Gavagai got Artillery somehow this turn, upgrading at least one destroyer, while Gawdzak now has 6-7 destroyers off of Gavagai's eastern coast. No stack payload transports in sight, though...

Portugal's navy remains unmoved, and still no Astro either. I guess I can step down the Defcon level a bit here.

I'm not sure what techs I want after Artillery. Gawdzak is 2 turns out from Electricity with about 2.2k gold banked, and I think we'll see Industrialism, for tanks and destroyers, right after that. I have some options:
  • Facism - I want this next, not so much for Police State but for Mt Rushmore. My biggest cities are all nearish happy cap, and Industrialism obsoletes a market resource, Ivory. An actual war could cripple me simply from WW, even with jails already built in my biggest cities. Mt Rushmore is a cheap build and eliminates this potential disaster completely.

  • Electricty -> Radio -> Flight - I should get a pretty decent economic lift from Electricty straight up, while Radio would let me try for the Cristo Redentor. Does anyone know how the RtR changes to this wonder work? Am I always guaranteed at least one civic switch anarchy-free? Anyways, Flight would be next after that, for bombers and paratroopers.

  • Electricity -> Industrialism - try to keep up with Gawdzak w/ Tanks and fast-moving Battleships

  • Communism - if I can't get CR, then it's now or never for State Property. I'm leaning against it.

  • Biology - this would help me max out my cities' hammerage a bit more, but I can probably skip it for awhile.

  • Rocketry -> Fission Certainly a possibility.....!??!???

Not the unit itself, but the icon of the unit. (To the left of the EoT button)

Hmmm, I'll play around with it a bit next time I log in.

Gawdzak dumped a bunch of EP on me to stop my research visibility while regaining it on me, while Gavagai did the same, blugh. I'm so behind on espionage right now, probably half the points I've invested all game were on the four dead civs. I'm thinking that I'll need to get Communism eventually just for IAs, but there's too many pressing tech needs right now and FM is still the superior civic economically. Instead, to combat my maintenance problems, I had a funny idea that getting Divine Right in order to build Versailles would actually be a very smart economic move for me. I could put it over in Furungyland, where I have no courthouses but lots of coal plants, complete the final couple courthouses I need for the FP near my northern border with Gavagai, and then put the FP in former-Korea. That should keep my maintenance low in each of the three arms of my empire, perhaps saving 250-300gpt in total once you factor in inflation. (now over 50%)

Regarding techs, I got Artillery a few turns ago and upgraded IIRC 6 frigates to destroyers (2 on each front) and a couple galleons to transports. I also had quite a few queue-upgrades to destroyers. In response, the Portugeuse finally got Astro and upgraded two carracks to Frigates. XD Gavagai strangely got Biology instead of AL... I guess it'll be pretty good for him in Enviromentalism, but goddamn is he behind on industrialization now. I mean, his GA mfg is almost identical to mine already so maybe he doesn't "need" it at the moment but I think he's going to be hard pressed to build them later as Gawdzak and I are going to go nuts with military buildup soon. Well, at least I am, Gawdzak seems to be addicted to building wealth. He's actually the lowest power in the world right now! He did, however, get Electricity a couple turns ago, and may very well be at Industrialism's doorstep. Either that or Radio I guess, who knows. He still does have a Great Engineer banked and CR is the only really good wonder left for him. Anyways, I've been trying to signal him every few turns that I'm building up shitloads of military now and would be interested in a joint attack on Gavagai before he is truly unassailable, but he sends no reply nor moves his stacks even one tile. Maybe he doesn't understand what I'm trying to say? His scouting is very poor, from what I can tell, (in contrast to Gavagai and I, who have scouting units and airships fucking everywhere), although he finally does have a few airships out. Would reforming my ships into the form of a giant fucking arrow be against the spirit of AI diplo?!??

Gavagai is truly looking so strong right now, his +33% land area is really starting to mean something as our conquests grow into real cities. He queue-upgraded many frigates to destroyers in addition to his upgrades, I see them all over his inland sea. We both went from 2.7k -> 3.4k troops within a few turns, which is insane considering that ships count very little on the power graph - a destroyer is only 10k, compared to 20k for an artillery, for example, and most of my power rise was from infantries whereas Gavagai does not have AL yet. If we can't punish him soon for skipping out on his productive economy then we might as well just concede to him.

Blugh, it looks like Commodore attacked dtay and stole some shitty 1-tile island city, which I coulda sworn I just saw Infantry on with my passing Caravel, which Commodore doesn't have? Anyways, Commodore gave it back to him for peace. Unfortunately, this game is no city trading, a setting that plako specifically requested when the game started because I guess he really hates city trades... I remember him being pretty clear about it.

Anyways, as I mentioned in the tech thread, I did have some combat this turn. 2metra gets Astro, and what's the first thing he does with his new frigates? Snipes my scouting Privateer. rolleye Fuck that - that's what, the 4th one they've killed? I've taken special care to never step on a city BFC tile, just used a harmless, passive scout, just like his carracks that he has cruising all over my borders. You have some huge ship stack that you don't want me to see, eh? Well, I've had enough of your horseshit, what's this going to be like when you have destroyers and transports too? So, I declared war and sniped 4 of their ships, two Destroyers vs two Ironclads and two Frigates vs Carracks. I also upgraded another 4 frigates to destroyers in the area. I will try to kill as many ships of theirs as I possibly can and then blockade their ports. If they want peace with me, they have to earn it or pay for it this time.

They were all 99%+ combats, I don't mind redoing them if we need to reload. I'm more annoyed at needing to replay the turn, but I guess its my fault for not paying close attention to the tracker.

No, it's their fault for not paying attention to and breaking the rules. Unfortunately, there's no other simple way around it, but that doesn't mean it's your fault at all.

Kind of a pointless discussion, I guess, but I felt the need to say it.
