Sullla Wrote:So even though we lost 7 units to kill 3, we took Kathlete's horse archers out of the fight

Are they really that much out of the fight? They could retreat to friendly territory - you don't have the power to kill a retreating unit without exposing your own counterattacker - and come back in six or so turns. And damaged units can pillage just fine.

(Not spoiler, just my own speculation, I haven't read Kathlete's thread lately)

They're out of the current battle is what I mean. If Jowy/Kathlete want to retreat and come back in 6 turns, that's fine with us. We'd have catapults by then, plus more horse archers, and that would be the end of their stack.

Kathlete has rejected our peace offer (shocking!) and thus the fighting will go on. Pretty much removes any doubt that these teams are joined at the hip, as if their RBPB3 partnership didn't already give it away. Jowy/Kathlete/Dantski have about 5 more hours to play their turn, so we'll see what they do.

By the way, guys, if we had had time to build about 3-4 more Horse Archers, we would have been able to decimate that stack. So their timing was at least good.

Also, while KAthlete only contributed 6 units, their mounted ministack completely changed the dynamic of the attack and made our defense much more difficult. A stack of Phalanx, Swords, and Spears would have had approximately 0 percent chance of taking a city from us, but with the added dimension of the two-movers, they have some chance.

A message from Nakor:

Quote:Dear Sullla,

How is the war going?
Are there a lot of attack going on?
We did see that Dantski moved away from his cities with his army, so that gives us some options.

Whosit is still a problem, however. We told him a bit of our plans and reasons for the NAP to make him see our POV.
But he doesn't think that it would be in his interest at all if we joined you.
And with his mighty army of Preats...

Well, still keeping the negotiations going and I do hope we can get to some sort of agreement.
We really can't afford to anger Rome at this time.

Good luck with the war,
Nakor of HRE

My proposed response:

Quote:Nakor,

How can you expect to compete with Rome who has twice your land area? He has already taken most of Korea's land. If you don't take some sort of risk, you are going to be stuck in the absolute worst place: mediocrity. We are not going to beg you to attack Dantski, and this will be the last time we bring it up. We can handle him just fine. But by staying out of a major regional war, you are not benefiting at all, when you could be adding some easy cities to your land, securing your northern borders, and giving yourself a chance to compete in this game, and earning a long-term ally in us.

I would consider asking him straight up if he is assisting Dantski with the war effort. I am pretty sure he is, to be honest.

Dantski and Jowy have ended their turns, and our score hasn't dropped, so I guess that means we still own all our cities. smile

Wow, did he just ask Whosit for permission to attack? First that just seems like foolishness... Second... why would you broadcast that anyways? Of course he doesn't want anyone to help you guys, this whole war only benefits him.

The other teams have moved, so let's see what they did. First Kathlete:

They moved SW onto the silks without healing. OK... huh Unfortunately, a couple of these units did promote, so that's where losing those 70% battles really sucked. I'm... not exactly sure what we do here, since it looks like that stack is going for Gettysburg.

Notice also the Kathlete GALLEY sailing off our west coast. Like, sending those mounted units isn't enough. My god, these teams seem to hate us... rolleye

Dantski continued to make the predictable move at Gettysburg:

This just makes thing easy for us; no need to worry about an attack on Antietam at all. He definitely can't take the city with his current force, and he'll probably wait for Kathlete's stack to arrive.

Now that alone would be fine; we have just enough forces to hold off this 3 vs 1. But none of that matters, because of Nakor:

Gee, I wonder what's going on here? rolleye Note that Nakor also moved in the first half of the turn, to line up with the timing rules currently in effect. So apparently a 3 vs 1 ISN'T ENOUGH. No, we need to have a 4 vs 1, including EVERY MEMBER of the RBPB3 team. Uh huh. rolleye

I'm sorry, but that is f*cking bullshit. Not mincing words or being polite here, that - is - bullshit. This is not like the RBPB1 alliance against an Incan team that had double the cities of anyone else, and a long history of aggression against other teams. No, this is a gangbang based purely upon the reputations of the players involved, and with friends from other games pooling their resources together. Don't even try to tell me that the RBPB3 teammates aren't carrying over their alliance into this game. Grade "A" bullshit.

Even worse, the teams are making no effort to win the game just for the sake of trying to take us down. I don't fault teams for doing what's in their best interests to win, and Dantski and Jowy have legit reasons for teaming up against us. But Nakor?!? Kathlete?!?! They're not making any effort to build up their own civs, just gangbanging the "rockstar" team for fun. And yes, that really pisses me off. There's an implicit agreement in a game like this that everyone will do what's best for their team, and try to achieve victory. I view Kathlete and Nakor's actions as an egregious violation of the spirit of this game.

Imagine if Dreylin, Ruff, athlete, and mostly_harmless all declared war on sooooo in the RB PBEM game just because he had the best reputation, and athlete + mh were sending soldiers to the other side of the world, for no gain to themselves, just to strike down someone who had a strong reputation. That's basically what we have here...

I don't even know where to go from here. I honestly have no desire to keep playing this game right now. I just want to post a giant "F*CK YOU" in the public forum and wash my hands of the whole thing. [Image: mad.gif]

Hi Sullla,

I only wanted to say that if you consider the hole we dug out of in the demogame, overcoming adversity can obviously be its own reward.

And, as you and Speaker have discussed, the defender (and strong play) still have lots of advantages. So while a 4v1 is undoubtedly more formidable than a 3v1, if you are able to overcome the attack that will be all the more satisfying, right?

A sullla game isn't a sullla game until there are some ridiculous odds to overcome! No matter what we know you'll give us a fine show.

Hi Sulla

You should hold your judgement until you have read their threads.

Good Luck in your fight.
