Twinkletoes89 Wrote:Just a message for Kyan and Whosit - I will be at work from 6pm until 10pm tonight but unless Dantski ends his turn before 10, I will be there for the next turn.
If the turn rolls over before I get back, Kyan is free to make the agreed movement of Novice - Barbarian Hunter onto the three-hammer hill and take screenies. Once I've seen it I will write our Turn 3 chapter :-)
Not a problem, bit late for cricket isn't it?
I'm actually at football between 7.45 for a bit anyhow. One of us will catch it soon enough tho (before or after. worst case scenario it takes us a whole HOUR to play the turn. Oh noes!) and fingers crossed for some yummy land.
Altho as a general rule of thumb, for now in these early days i don't mind you being our official turn-player. I think whosit made a suggestion earlier about set roles. Whilst we can of course be flexible and i'll be logging in occasionaly for pics and to get a better feel of the game. I don't mind if you strongly want this role

P.S. Note to Lurkers- that was me being NICE to TT. I think you should run some kind of bet how many posts or turns before i accidently do it again. I'd aim high

Turn 3: Over The Hill
Full report will be made by TT later but i'll post screenies and some comments for now.
We've found some good land! Rice and cows and some more nice hills to the north-east. I propose we continue moving NE on the hills then down and round the peak heading south.
Demographics:
Show that only 2 civ's are going with 4 production. Probly expansive civ's after workers?
Also i noticed something really weird with the land. It doesn't add up right at all. There's too many land tiles, also everyone has had landlocked starts it seems (it's possible it's coast but unlikely).
Therefore, Sulla prediction numero uno: There are no seas. Poor portugal if this is true!
number two: this isn't a pangaea but has lots of hills. However, this would mean that civ's starting in the corners would have huge advantages and sullla isn't stupid. So... prediction number 2: The map is likely connected at LEAST east - west/ north -south. Possibly toroidal but at least 1 wrap.

Ok. I've been sitting here puzzled.
theory number 3: This map ISN'T huge size. Even with no water, it seems really big. Coupled with what speaker was writing about a map in some other thread recently, he was saying you can make map sizes bigger than the default. No idea if he succeeded but it's worth bearing in mind. IF this isn't possible, then either a) there really is bugger all actual water. We can only see a 1 tile item and maybe that's the trend. So my theory is either:
a) It's edited to make it bigger than even a huge map
OR b) there are no lakes OR seas.
Can anyone confirm or deny the possibility of this? Obviously don't say whether i'm right or not tho.

Cows and dry rice, which is distinctly less appealing than dry ice, and an order of magnitude less alluring that irrigated rice. Dry rice is the weakest of the grains, but it will do in a pinch.
Interesting predictions, Kyan. Hopefully we'll learn more soon.
Next turn, I'd move Novice 1NE, then 1 SE.

I'm happy with those warrior moves too. The land one i'm not sure of. I can't think of another explanation why there are this many land tiles. Huge games on general come nowhere near this many.

Yes, I want to keep the Warrior fairly close to the capital until we have another defender, and scouting in a spiral pattern seems like a pretty good idea to me.
Sullla probably had a few tricks up his sleeve when he made this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a custom size or something, considering the number of teams.
Anyway, I've taken another look at the demographics screen posted, thanks for that. (Oh, for the spreadsheet, it might be valuable to insert new columns and add "rival average," which I forgot to do.) I'm guessing the players with the higher life expectancy are expansive. Approval rating . . . we have some Charismatic leaders, but that doesn't seem to be showing up.
I'm not sure what to make of the 4 production, honestly. My guess is it's either a flatland city and a forest plains hill, or a plains hill city and a plains forest. Expansive wouldn't kick in unless there was base 4 hammers, so we'd see at least 5 (+25% to Workers, hammers only). Hard to tell since some teams haven't settled (rival worst crop/hammers 0). If my theory is right, we might see crop 2, or crop 3.

Ok, so for clarification.
Genesis Build Order: Finish Worker->Warrior->Warrior->Worker->Settler.
If Novice is scouting around east but keeping fairly close, i'd be happy for the second warrior to start heading west. I would like us to pay careful attention to ensure at least one of them is close enough at all times. 3rd warrior can just stay put.
Worker can put couple of turns into the farm, then pasture sheep, finish farm and then mine up those grass hills.
2nd worker i believe should be used to immediately start chopping the settler as it's late to start him. Meanwhile, our two warriors will have, hopefully, found us a suitable site for Exodus. Whichever warrior was nearest can provide escort duty and both workers move straight over to improve it asap.
tech order: AH, Mining, BW, hunting, archery is my personal preference. We can't really plan much further ahead than that as a LOT could happen between now and then. Considering these are the starting turns and people are just moving one unit around, i wish we could get more of these starting turns done promptly. It's literally 3-4mins max. That's probly just me getting carried away though!

Turn 3 - Over the Hill?
For a fearsome bodyguard, Novice was ridiculously unfit. He had been brought along by Pericles to march to the notorious 'Three Hammer Hill' to survey the terrain. It was one steep hill, as it taken them 20 years to climb it!
Reaching the summit, Pericles exclaimed in fear "What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster?". Novice sighed, "No sir, its a cow you clueless halfwit!"
"SILENCE, I will not tolerate your insolence! Another remark from you and I will send you over to the dry rice and make you try and turn it into a useful tile!" fumed the supreme leader (supremely stupid anyway).
"But sir, we all know that that is nearly impossible!" retorted novice.
"Do you want to deal with the jungled silver aswell...?" threatened Pericles, becoming impatient (must be the 20 years away from his concubinus (there you go) eh, Kyan?)
"OK I'll behave, your wise majesty, mover of the sun and sky, benevolent and generous ruler of all Babylon" replied novice.
"That's more like it, whoever you are," replied The Clueless One.

I hope you enjoyed chapter 3, I did anyway!
