Quick question to see if I can get the answer before I wake up tomorrow!

What's the likely odds for a Warrior to beat a Scout in a city attack? I imagine the city ends up on flatland or a hill but there won't be any cultural defense.

99% on flatland 95% on a hill. If you want I can send you Cyneheard's combat odds spreadsheet so you can play with the numbers yourself.

Awesome. Better odds than I expected.

He moved out the scout this turn and settled the city, which suggests that he either doesn't expect an attack or has a warrior catching up.

I expect there to be no one there as I've been tracking the movements and the scout & settler have regularly moved 2 tiles a turn and with no roads built yet, and no warrior seen, it may struggle to get there before me. Plus he was in favour of no barbs so I am also expecting him to have pushed out in a farmer's gambit way.

However, Once my warrior reaches the borders next turn, I will likely DoW early so I can send my scout in to check the defenses just to be certain.

I do have some moral qualms about potentially crippling a rival this early - it may well suck his enthusiasm for playing the turns and slow the game down. But by the same token, this would be a much easier time to do it than in the future.

Well, this discussion is moot now really...

Just played the last turn, DOw'd with the scout to see what was there and a Warrior was going to get there before mine.

So I have pulled the warrior back and offered peace.

If I lose the scout then so be it, but it was worth it to check and also to see the city tile.

Fucking hell.

Khan DoW's me and takes a 50/50 shot at a Warrior next to my city and kills it almost flawlessly and gets enough experience to promote to shock as well.

I had another warrior in the city too yet he takes that shot. He now has a 1.9 health C1/Shock Warrior attacking a size 1 city across a river with an unpromoted warrior in it. So I get screwed on the dice roll and now likely lose a city for it despite covering my arse with 2 warriors nearby.

I fucking hate PBEMs

Also, he offered peace for the city. Not happening. If he wants it so badly, he'll be rewarded with an auto-razed city, not a free one.

And I am now going to dedicate my game to aggression against him however I can manage it.

Bad luck... The north remembers ! Or the south in your case.

Got the save but can't face opening it for a while.

Completely sure that I'll have lost the city regardless of the dice roll.

I renamed the city to Eternal War as a last warning to him, but I seriously doubt it changes anything.

One really bad dice roll and now I'm crippled.

Well, the odds are in your favor mildly; innate warrior city bonus plus river.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

No such luck.

He didn't take the attack, and moved across the river. I would've reinforced, but he also fast-worker roaded over an Axe which means the city is dead.

I'm not giving him the advantage of a free city that he has demanded for peace twice, so he will have to autoraze or wait plenty of turns for it to grow when I plan to have Axes & Archers of my own. Plus, if he wants to take Eternal War, then he'll have to accept the consequences of that as I'm focused on retribution right now.

Btw, there are barb cities popping up everywhere it seems - one is already size 4! That may help my military focused strategy if I'm lucky.
