Reposting what I posted in our thread. (Link to Cull's specific post removed because it's, you know, in our spoiler thread).
Cull Wrote:Screwed up big time guys, I, every once in a while, go to each of our companions sub forums, and exit out. This stops the annoying bold letters. I offer the same offer I posted at the IT thread. If you want me to leave because it seems suspicious, I leave the game.
-Cull 1. Ack. I'd hate to lose you as a teammate, and I can tell (by your posts here and your e-mails) that you haven't actually read any spoiler info, but visiting others' threads, no matter how innocently, is definitely a very bad habit to be in (it's a bad idea to put yourself in a position to even do it accidentally, even once!) I'll play this turn myself while the matter is being resolved, in any case.
2. If you do stick around: As Ruff pointed out, there are a couple ways to accomplish what you want to without clicking on anyone's threads. One way is to subscribe to the thread, as Ruff described above, but the other is to just keep our thread and the IT one (and later the Public Players thread, when/if we get full contact) bookmarked. I sent an e-mail around to our team a couple weeks ago called "Bookmarks in lieu of a subforum" with links to all three of these places, plus the initial planning thread, for just this purpose, but it might have been lost in the shuffle. Either way, you never visit the RBP3 subforum itself at all. Yet another alternative was pointed out by Krill though: You can enter the subforum and only visit our threads, and when the bold text elsewhere gets on your nerves, just go to "Forum Tools" near the upper right corner of the list of threads, click on the little arrow next to it, and then choose "Mark This Forum Read."

Ok it happens. I personally use the 'forum tools' -> 'mark this forum read' option after reading my own teams thread. This stops any problems.
I have no desire for you to quit the game and, personally, would be more than happy for you to continue. If you wanted to cheat you'd just hit logout and view as a guest anyway i guess and nobody could stop you.
Addendum: if in anyway your team attacks Babylon in game, i take back all i just said and vote for your name to be stricken from the records!!

Team CHASM doesn't have a problem with Cull remaining, either. As long as you use Mark Forum Read, or use shortcuts (making sure &goto=newpost is on the end of url sends you to the unread posts immediately) going forward, it's fine.

Given that if someone did want to cheat in this manner there's really nothing to stop them, I wouldn't worry too much about it Cull. We believe you if you say you didn't read anything, and it's not going to be an issue any longer regardless.

Question: Does this forum work differently for all of you than it does for me?
When I visit, say, RBP3 subforum I see bold thread titles for threads with unread posts. I then click on, say, the IT Office and my own team's thread and read some posts. Then I close the page.
The next time I load up the forums, only threads with new unread posts will show up bolded. If Athlete's thread had an unread post on the previous visit but no new posts since then their thread does not appear in bold.
If this is how it works for everyone, what's the problem?

Work for me the same way, or more precisely it is even worse, if I spend too much time reading a thread (or working or on the phone), when I click next on the supposed 'go to next unread', I will go to the next post since my opening the site (and not the next unread from yesterday or last time)...
So basically, I have to 'fast click' next unread on all the one I have/want to read to be sure not to miss any (hard to be a lurker at work sometimes )

yeah - CFC items stay unread for ages. RBs forum must be set up so that they stay unread for only a couple of minutes.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

If this is how it works for everyone, what's the problem? That's not how it works for me. In the pitboss 2 & 3 forums, my unread items stay unread forever (or until I read them) which is how I assume it's supposed to work. In the pitboss 1 forum my items sometimes get magically read, possibly the way Sunrise describes it, although I've failed to see a pattern so far.
I have to run.

Wow, that's terrible. Unread should always reset IMHO - when you didn't click on something that shows you don't want to read it, so it doesn't ever need to be brought to your attention again.

So I hate to make things MORE confusing but I've exeperienced both what sunrise is saying and what novice is saying. And on top of that things that I've read magically become unread again sometimes. I've never been able to figure it out here to be honest...
