He's got a third vulture incoming note (lightly wounded, unpromoted). I also had to thin the blockade as discussed in the previous post, so we might see combat next turn. I just finished a phalanx at Thales, which I'd prefer to send to the SE but without peace will have to help against Grimace. Thy will be able to emergency whip a phalanx after next turn.
[Spoilers] I have enough games already. Oh look, a PBEM !

![]() oh boy... ok he is throwing away everything to ruin our game. I still hold to my opinion that it's his own fault. He saw our Phalanx, he saw us roading, he had a very nice spot with crabs/gems/horse one south of that plant which he would've been able to defend. Whatever, now we have to defend ourselves, and we will, of course. I see 5 of them vultures now. We'll have 2 Phalanxes on the pigs hill and one on each of the forested hills from next turn on, plus one whippable at any time at Thy (we could also chop it out next turn, but i'd rather put that hammers into the granary). Also note that Grimace apparently built a barracks. Well, got bad news for you pal, our units will be vassalage promoted 2 turns from now* * I screwed up the micro getting that additional Phalanx from Thales. I don't know what happened, but it took 2 turns fropm the Oracle instead of just 1 as I though (including a whip). I'm deeply sorry. If we lose the Oracle, you have all right to beat me to hell and beyond. But it will not happen.
good news first...
![]() more good news: We will found a city next turn and one 2 turns later. Also, Grimace settled a new city, which makes me hope his titl is not total. Sigh, now the bad ones. Somehow my screenshots were not saved, but what happened is that Grimace attacked on the pigs hill with two vultures. He lost the first one, but the second one won without a scratch, against all odds ![]() He has 5 vultures total visible. One can move onto the jungle next turn, and 2 (one of them promotable) onto the tile 1W of the pigs hill. ![]() (just recreated the post-combat screenshot) That would give us the following options: a) Put two Phalanxes on the pigs hill, blocking the tile for 1 turn more. That way we'd have just one c1 Phalanx in Thy to defend against an unpromoted vulture. Spreadsheet says our chances are 90%, but of course it's still a risk b) two Phalanxes in Thy, one on the pigs hill. if he wants to move on, he'll have at least to sacrifice one vulture, if we get lucky maybe even two (one of his vultures is at 5.3) c) pull back everything. He is not taking Thy, I'm pretty sure. The problem is that with the blockade collapsed, he could try to trickle in vultures towards Thales, which we would have to attack on hills. Also, losing that pigs and probably also the mine renders Thy kinda useless. That could be helped with a workboat, but gotta whip out Phalanxes (or Longbows). That also brings up the question if we revolt into Monarchy/Vassalage (or Vassalage/Serfdom ![]() He's just bringing vultures... chariots would be good to have, especially if he trys to run beyond Thy. A worker started pasturing the horse this turn, and I'll bring another one to help after he finishes a cottage at Pyth next turn. When are you returning? The game's getting difficult, I'd like to leave this mess to you ![]()
Thanks for the report and sorry for not answering yesterday, I'm usually out all day doing tourist stuff and I sometimes forget.
I come back friday morning but leave again sunday afternoon (coming back on the 3rd of august, for good this time). I'm not happy to be missing such critical turns but I'm unlikely to have another trip anywhere until at least next summer if not the one after that. If you don't mind playing more turns I'll keep on abusing your kindness ![]() Are you sure chariots are a good idea ? Vultures are supposed to be better against them, being 50/50 when attacked in a forest. Is there a great scientist scheduled ? We have some libraries right ? I'd be ok with waiting a few turns (less than 5) for a GA switch. We could need some whipping with all those vultures around us so serfdom can wait a little. Whipping a longbow or two (we need archery next) would be the most efficient way to make Grimace go away.
I'm very doubtful if I can play at all after Friday for the next 3 months.
We had agreed not to push for GP (and I think it was right, as else we would be completely without settlers), so no, if we want to revolt we'll have to do it the hard way. 50/50 is still better that what we get with a Phalanx. But yeah, if we have to keep throwing our hammers away like that it won't do us any good. Quote:Whipping a longbow or two (we need archery next) would be the most efficient way to make Grimace go away.Problem is that same as Phalanxes, they can just block his way, but have no means of attacking him, less so on hills.
Hmmm I'll have to find someone else to sub or ask for a hiatus then. I'll think about it.
This war really changes things, slavery is really necessary now. Longbows on hills mean he can't pass. Longbows in a city mean he can't take it.
This is the most depressing thread I've ever seen for players who just managed to Oracle Feudalism. Nicely done there guys.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Thanks ! TBH we should be proud but having Grimace in full revenge mode to our west makes it harder to relax and enjoy. Also there are 9 techs we really want ASAP (archery masonry sailing MC IW CoL construction currency calendar) and that's before we start thinking about the aesthetics line or beelining guilds.
I'm honestly considering going archery sailing construction and stomping Grimace with a stack of lb phalanxe and cats. |
