Yup, looks like we were halfway right about our guess.
Okay I did some experiements with maps. I'm going to go ahead and say I think the map we're on has got to be almost-all-land map. I messed with Hemispheres and the game tends to place 3/4ths of the players on the coast... And I just don't think there's enough land on that kind of map to afford manually pushing players inwards. The only possibility would be manually extending the coast, which would be possible but very tedious. There are 5 maps that fit the description of an "all-land" or close to it:
Great Plains - we can pretty much eliminate this
Highlands - I have to think we can eliminate this too, the land around us looks nothing like it
Lakes - This is possible with a low sea-level setting. Something similar to PB1 but with less water. Would probably fit the best, except it was used already, which makes me think we're seeing something else. Aside from that this would probably be the most logical fit.
Oasis - This one is interesting, as though there IS a strip of water on the north of this map, in the games I tested the players started OFF the coast. The problem with this map (if you're familiar with it) is its by nature unbalanced. The south has more "good" land, but the north has more resources, including many you just can't get in the south. I have no idea how that would work in this kind of game, but the terrain matches our map very well.
Team Battleground - Very possible... The thing is with Team Battleground is it's smaller-than-usual map. So we're overloading a map with 17 civs to begin with AND the map type is smaller than usual. I rolled a few samples and the teams were ridiculously close. The only way this would work would be if the script had some advanced modifications done.
So there's my best guesses if this IS an all-land map, which I think it has to be given no one at all is on the coast. There's no "for sure" guess but I get the feeling it's either Lakes or Team Battleground, but heavily modified either way. Either that or some sort of specialty map that's out there that I'm not aware of.
