Chaos and unintended consequences sound fun. Mattimeo.

They'll have safe fake claims for that eventuality.

Anyone else raising that argument I'd be strongly suspecting they're scum looking to provide a cover. MJW it's probably just standard play though.

In the process of purchasing a decent laptop. Mostly phone access 'til that's finalised.

No torture will happen in that case.

You are free to do so.

I'm from the Greek Pantheon as well.

Hi all smile

So MJW and Jabbz are from the greek pantheon? Is that a confession?

Jabbz

I'm against torturing. That's a thing gods love to do (think about the punishments happening in Tartarus)
We are better than them.

Well, yes. Which aspect of this did you only realize now?

Well if this was a real thing we'd either know who the torturer was (and hand him the suspect) or all attend the torturing (and all participate). In terms of gameplay it makes more sense with one unknown torturer, so I do feel dumb for not realizing it thanks for pointing it out.

It is a confession. I am not a god and I'm damned proud to say it!

We're back! And in a rather grim world it seems too. Can't we just become Buddhists and solve these problems?

The Glum is uncomfortable with torture, but it seems that's the game Serdoa wants us to play. Unless he doesn't and this is a 'the only way to win is not to play' situation, but that's pretty unfair.

I would guess that continually using torture will start to ramp up increasingly bad penalties to a point where it does more harm than good (probably about the point it starts changing people's alignments). There's also the suggestion that Serdoa will be tracking the players who vote for or against torture, so maybe its the players who keep voting for torture who will end up getting killed or alignment switched.

If we are going to torture, we should try to vote for it with the minimum majority we can, and also cycle between which willing players make the torture votes, so we don't potentially stack too many Dick Cheney penalties on the same players.

My instinct might be to torture Day 1, so we see how it works in practice and have something to discuss, then we can be more circumspect with how we use it going forward.

I wouldn't be that surprised if the Torturer is a survivor role that may not be working with town. And I guess the role is inherited on their death? Also, if one of us is 'The Torturer', then I guess they have to come forward publicly to announce the results? So does someone want to confess to the role now anyway?

As for actually playing the game: Mattimeo, because I think MJW's name-claim suggestion -could- be useful, and certainly couldn't hurt. What is the 'cover' in his suggesting it?

Jabbz, BRick, I'm guessing you mean MJW is a masochist for volunteering for torture.

I think this is the wrong approach. If we have a solid lead we can just lynch them. Torture should be used to get reads on nonreadable players such as lurkers. So I still think we should give Marcus Aurelius a gentle twist of the thumbscrews to see if that saves us from policy lynching him.

I think it could accomplish a great deal, I just shied away from it on general principle. I find it slightly odd that you find it ineffective.

Where is that suggested? Your vote rotation scheme seems perfect for filibustering us into a "no torture" vote.

There's no rush to announce results as long as they are properly breadcrumbed and town is taking the correct decision anyway.
I have to run.
