RBP3 [SPOILERS] Hannibal of Byzantium (Bobchillingworth, ManiaMuse & SleepingMoogle)

Turn 10, and the game is picking up the pace now. First, we discovered Agriculture. Research was set to Animal Husbandry, which will take 14 turns as expected.

On the scouting front, our fearless warrior Richard L. Jenkins reports that silks have been spotted towards the northeast and is now awaiting further orders:

Finally, there have been a number of score increases, and one more capital has grown to size 2. Perhaps our C&D department can provide some further details on this later on. smile

Scouting-wise, I would prefer to follow the red path for now. It will take Jenkins 4 tiles away from the capital next turn, but the 5 after that he'll be only 3 tiles away. That should give us plenty of time to decide what to do.

Re: Diplomacy: I could do with some examples on what you'd do or not do versus specific teams Bob. It seems rather silly to keep a team off of the allies list just because player X is on the team though. I'm not saying that we should ignore past performance altogether, but to let it define our opinion before even meeting them is equally counterproductive.
Once we have a general idea who our neighbors are, we can start dividing them into allies and potential targets based on things like land, distance between civs, expected aggression, mutual protection, and the results of diplomacy. Right now we can't provide a good answer to any of those yet.

Also put up the current turn-plan in the second post for now. Hopefully it's error-free now, but there's a good chance we'll end up changing it soon enough anyhow.

Hey, sorry I haven't had much time to reply / turnplay. You seem to have us covered for that smile

For scouting, red path looks fine to me, I agree that risk is part of the game. I wouldn't be adverse to blue path at least until the north mountain.

For diplomacy, I entirely agree that we shouldn't make definite plans until we know a number of factors about the teams. I just think that prior performance in other RB games should be one of the areas to consider along with the rest you mentioned.

I have no problems with the worker / building plan you posted in the email, once it's ready please feel free to post it here so I can follow it should I find myself playing a turn in the near future. Once we reach size 2 we should be able to get an emergency warrior out pretty fast anyway.

Ugh.. sorry guys, but I screwed up. The turn rolled over so I logged in to see if anything had happened other than the score increases. I hadn't intended to move the Warrior until we reached a consensus, but managed to accidentally move it to the desert tile west of last turn's position while repositioning the overview. It could have been worse, but still.. banghead

Anyway, it means no tiles revealed this turn and Jenkins will sit exposed this turn and the next (no barbs spotted though), but at least he's only 3 tiles away from the capital.

Other than that though, not too much happening outside of score increases. Maybe we can run some guesstimates on that later?

HRE: Score increased to 36
Korea: Score increased to 34
England: Score increased to 34
Maya: Score increased to 34

Looking at the map, I realized that sending Jenkins W > W in the next two turns wouldn't be different from the much safer SW > NW in terms of tiles defogged. So please ignore the map note I've made in-game if the turn rolls over. smile

Also, the scouting path would start take us 4 tiles away from the capital from turn 17 onwards. We have finished the Worker by this time and started on the Warrior. If a team feels like making a move, we can always switch to a plains hill and crank out defense in a few turns. That should make scouting a bit further from the capital less risky, no?

Turn 12:

Not too much happening. I moved the Warrior SW, so he's actually inside our borders right now. After moving NW next turn, we're back on the red path again.

There were two teams whose score increased. Ruff's Aztecs went to 36 and Carthage increased to 34. With a little time, I could have a quick look at what might have caused the score increases, but its not something I've done before.

So for any lurkers readin this: if there is an article out there that describes the score system in detail, I'd love to have a link for it. Thanks in advance! smile

Oh wow, read the tech thread- 1st war between Lobo and someone else (I suspect "Lord Ventari"), and it sounds like Lobo is going to get eliminated. So starts are fairly close. And someone is very aggressive. I don't think this should make our scouting more conservative; if anything, people will probably start pulling warriors back to defend now.

That's even faster than RBP2 isn't it? eek

Also, Buddhism. *cough* Any guesses on which Civ got it?

Ouch! My money is on Krill...I mean Lord whatever if it hasn't been confirmed already, I haven't bothered to read the tech thread yet. Guess that reinforces the point that until we get our second warrior we are still at great risk of being eliminated should a warrior/quecha emerge out of the shadows.

I haven't logged onto the game for a while, but I think it has been narrowed down to either one of two or three other teams. The best best is Lord V, who as I recall is Eygptian yellow, meaning Krill. Interestingly, I think we're probably one of the three teams suspected of killing Lobo, as Moogle was one of the few people playing at the time. I suggest we neither confirm nor deny anything, unless directly asked in-game.
