D'oh!
Take care about not getting your units trapped in Zoe in case you get peace from Grimace.... Thought I'd prefer you take the capital first. The SE IMO doesn't matter that much, we have a better attack vector from our own land. Outs a lot of siege, but knights should be able to flank it away, right? So we'll need a couple of them there... This wellies are no problem for pikes and even our j knights should get odds with promos, but gotta get rid of the siege.
And yeah, stupid move by Sian IMO as well, he had a really good chance to profit from a Grimace war.
Going to make a stand a Euclid?

Most likely he'll suicide some siege on Euclid and the longbow/phalanxe/pike won't be enough against so many WEs. But I'll have a few pikes around plus a knight or two so there's no way he can get any further.
The reason why I want the eastern part of Grimace's land is because I don't think he'd accept peace with his empire cut in half.
Knights flank trebs and cats yes.

He only lost 2 trebs taking the city... The city has a few WEs and the crossbow.
The grimace front is much better, I'll be assaulting the capital next turn.
A few Zulu WEs came near Shepherd Book, they'll force me to stop my conquest there.

Two or three catapults in the homeland will be very helpful to break that stack. Maybe start the first one in Pythagoras next turn with the knight finished?
What's the plan with civil service? Still don't believe in banks? Of course I'd understand if right now you wanted a military tech, but I doubt that what we need are maces?
After taking the cap let's offer Grimace peace, imo with some gpt included, like, 20?) If I were in his position I'd fight till death, but you never know, and having our knights available for 10t to throw out Sian from our lands would be huge

Maces will be useful against Grimace's vultures and spears. I think knights only will suffice against Sian, with c2 they have 73% odds against WEs. After CS I want paper (I want to know what techs others have) then probably going for lib but I could make a detour through banking. The question remains : do I want to use hammers on them instead of knights ?

I agree that knights are capable of breaking the stack, but with cats we're just going to lose a lot less of those frustrating 70% battles because it'll be more like 80 or 90%. And with him being stacked in Euclid or moving onto us we also got the mobility advantage when moving cats on engineered roads

If you want lib you may want to make up a plan on how to steal it from retep who has clear advantage. Like, get a GS or two for bulbs, pile up enough gold to match through 3-4 techs, etc.
I still say banking. Banks cost about the same as a knight, which is not negligible of course, but I'd hope that in 5-10turns we'll be stable enough to afford that, particularly if we get peace from Grimace. It's like half our FIN trait and we should put out to use.
I do agree about maces being a good garrison against Grimace, although imo crossbows would do as well. But maces are better if he focuses on HA's, true.
Looking at his roads, is it possible that Grimace doesn't have construction?

Ah yes I just noticed that Retep got paper so he must be ~5t ahead. With the previous tech rate I could have tried to beat him fair but with the not-useful-yet Grimace cities, the unit costs and the loss of Euclid the current breakeven tech rate is at 100bpt (I have enough gold left to finish CS next turn though). What I can do is get a great person out in 15t from Pyth, if it's a scientist bulb him for education if it's an engineer use him to steal the Taj Mahal.
Yes Grimace doesn't have construction but his GNP is at 97 now which isn't completely pathetic, I think he'll get it pretty soon.

I recieved this offer from Sian this turn :
I accepted it. Not because I want to be nice to him or anything, but because we're going to get a full dogpile.
He doesn't have enough troops to take the city I think, unless he wins two low odds fights or has engineering and other CAs in Anjar. Edit : he has engineering so the question is only whether he has more in Anjar. I really don't understand why he didn't wait until next turn to declare war... Edit Edit : I'm stupid no I just checked Retep doesn't have engineering, the city is safe.
Now to the good news. In Captain Mal I sent the cats in (with barrage as their promos) but after the 3rd cat (out of 4) I lost no unit which was a bit lucky. Well for the last catapult it was a 10% chance of retreat, and it didn't even take a hit so that was really really lucky. The other battles were all above 72% so just a bit lucky.
Next turn it will be captured which is great. Also the fun little story of those little guys that I sent forward in the southeast of Grimace territory and that have trapped a worker
So what's the plan you ask me ? I'm not sure. It will depend on what happens next turn. If Retep takes peace I'm taking the other Grimace cities and using the 10t peace to get myself an empire. If not I might decide to turn around, make peace with Grimace (or not, I don't care he can't hurt me) and take Retep down. Going berserk sounds like a pretty fun plan after all.

I want to see Sian punished ![rant rant](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/rant.gif)
Take as much of Grimace as you can without exposing yourself to retep's CAs, but imo don't overinvest yourself against retep. We have lots of attack vectors into Sian and I don't know about you, but I also have a grudge now on him right now
Retep has been scouting us hadn't he? So he should know about pappus' garrison... Do phalanxes upgrade to pikes?
