RBP3 - [SPOILERS] - Team DIM (Mehmed of HRE)

Just a quick comment for now:

I'm fine with an early NAP if it helps build a friendship. I am now and probably always will be opposed to "cool down" times. It seems like a foolhardy deal that prohibits both teams from being flexible. We've discussed this before so I don't think that is a problem.

I logged in, renamed our worker to Alexey Stakhanov, moved N and started farm and then stopped working it.

The Ottomans finished another food tile last turn and are now at 11 Crop Yield (2+5+4) at size 2!

Tricky Dicky was attacked by a wolf on the interturn, is now at 1.6 health (sigh) and will be able to promote next turn. Do I move him now, and promote to Woody 1 next turn and heal, or heal first. (we'll probably only need to heal 1 turn with the first option).

Hernan can promote this turn and is at 0.6 health. Do we promote and move SW?

Only Rego's team needs to finish their turn, so I don't want to wait too long before ending ours.

let's heal hernan. tricky dick is tricky smile if there's any risk of the bear being nearby i'd hold position

edit: yeah we lose 1 turn that way, but @ 1.6 on forest w/ river we're underdogs to a bear (3 vs 2.8). given we haven't seen the bear since he was spotted on T18 i'd say there's a decent chance he's E of the warrior

hernan can promote to woodie 1 + heal 2T

This sounds good to me as well!

Ok both units are healing, and I ended turn

New turn is up. Animal Husbandry discovered and we have... no Horse...
Research set to Mining, current ETA 9 turns.

I moved Stakhanov to the Sheep and started pasture.

Hernan is healing, will be ready next turn.

And Tricky... well, he's in another sticky situation...

I haven't moved him yet, but I suggest we move him W and try to heal there...

no horse cry

then again we haven't scouted our surroundings fully yet. let's not give up hope! alright

as for tricky. that's the 2nd time you've said W when you meant E ilios; i think Tricky Dick might be tricking you lol

i'd say promote woodie 1 -> move 1 tile E. @ 1.9 in forest + woodie 1 + across the river (i'm thinking of that bear) we get 3.7 versus 3, decent odds.

Erm, I'm just keeping you on you toes fellas, erm, yes that's it... smoke

Ok then we'll wait for Dazed so he can move Dicky in the direction the sun sets,... no I mean rises! lol

Meat' will you be able to compose a reply to A4 today?

DIM were pleased to receive your message. Your openness regarding your future plans makes us much more willing to reveal our own thoughts to you and work towards a tighter relationship.

The key short-term sticking point is the NAP; as we said, our primary concern is aggressive settlements. Exchanging screenshots as you suggested is the ideal way to get around it. While we’re willing to go down this path, it goes without saying that the visual map info we exchange stays between our two civs. We’re willing to provide you with a screenshot of everything we’ve explored W of our capital and E of yours. If you’re willing to do the same, we have a deal.

As you're aware our thread’s been very active, but one thing we haven’t discussed much beyond a cursory first analysis is what possible map settings we’re looking at. What are your thoughts on the map? We know from civstats that this is a Shuffle map, but not much else.

If you agree to the screenshot exchange NAP discussions can begin in earnest. Not that it matters that much as we’re also interested in trading tech with you and any trades would come long after the T60 expiry you proposed.

Alphabet would be attractive to us as we’re currently planning on going for either CoL or monarchy. We're also looking to trade for writing in exchange for e.g. monotheism once alphabet is discovered. If we were to come to an agreement over techs, how soon do you think you can get to alpha? We’re kind of struggling to come up with a realistic ETA because we’re yet to build a sandbox so aren’t sure how much the maintenance costs will affect research once we have more than one city.

We believe more counterparties will need to be included as with 16 civs out there, the likely outcome is we'll get 3 or 4 trading blocs forming.

This might be pie in the sky at this stage but what we'd like ideally is to have alphabet, maths, monarchy, and CoL involved in a 4- or 5-player trade; if a tech trading agreement is reached, are there any other techs you would like to see included? And would you be willing to lobby new civs you meet – assuming they don’t have hostile intentions – to join the first round of trades.

More talking

Meatbalz for DIM

less well formatted as i think we're into the talking stage now. suggestions/changes/slaps over the head more than welcome. once we're happy with the message, would either of you guys mind sending it over?

recap:
- more friendly language
- proposal of exchange of screenshots of the land between our capitals
- sound them out about map info
- reveal small amount of info about the map
- reveal large amount of info on our intentions re: our own teching
- reiterate a NAP is contingent on settlement plan
- fish for info re: how severe maintenance will be on this map
- sound them out about setting up a trading bloc
- proposal to bring other civs into our putative trading bloc

Quote:our primary concern are aggressive settlements

"...concern IS aggressive settlements..."

Quote:We’re willing to provide you with a screenshot of everything we’ve explored W of our capital and E of yours.

could we narrow that down to "the area between our capitals (east of Aquilonia, west of DIM)"?
They could interpret "Everything we've explored W of our capital" as all the scouting we've done so far to our west.

Quote:Maths would be attractive to us

They won't be able to trade us Maths if they don't have Alphabet. Unless you expect them go for Alphabet and then Maths, and then trade us Maths?

Quote:are there any other techs you would like to see included?

Could you ask them if we can somehow put Writing in the deal (either as an advance or to be traded for a religion tech)? I would really like to skip teching for it.
Do they plan on beelining to Alpha?

Quote:we’re yet to build a sandbox

Speaking of which...

Dazed, I've got my hands pretty full with the C&D (I'll send you guys another update next turn), and with Meatbalz handling diplomacy, I was wondering if you would have the time to set up a sandbox game?

What are your thoughts on the map? We know from civstats that this is a Shuffle map, unfortunately its description on civfanatics is this:

“Shuffle will create very random maps. If you want the map to be a complete surprise, Shuffle might be for you!”

maybe put this as a PS?

Otherwise, good job young man! (Good one on the "more talking" smile
