RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Speaker and Sullla

We are blessed to live in interesting times.

Whosit has sent 4 Galleys, which must mean 8 Praetorians, so my fears have proven correct. Here are the reasons I suspected him of sending them:

1) Complete lack of diplomatic contact
2) Only saw a couple Praetorians in his land, having explored most of his cities, and his only contested border.
3) Logical sense. This is his chance to truly cripple us.
4) Presence of a coastal on the inland sea.
5) Only logical explanation about why Nakor is involved--fear of Whosit's reprisal if he doesn't attack us.

Just like their original attack on Chancellorsville, the timing within a couple turn window, is putrid for us. 2 more turns and we'd have cleared out 1 or both of the stacks in our land, and would be able to shift all our troops over there to defend. 4 more turns and we'd even have spare catapults to whack those Praets when they disembarck.

The good news is that Nakor has left a Chariot exposed, and as long as we can kill 1 more unit, we will get a Great General. With 2 General Axes behind 50% walls, I feel pretty confident we can defend Fredericksburg, as long as we don't lose some wacky battles. I am crossing my fingers that those are just shock Praetorians, and not Shock + City Raider or City Raider I and II.

I have little fear of Chancellorsville falling to Dantski's little stack there, and we'll have plenty of troops to defend Antietam as well.

Question for Sullla: he likely thinks we can't see him. There was a way for him to move so we couldn't see him before he landed, which would have taken him 1 more turn of movement, but kept him hidden. Combine his choice to not take that patch, and the fact that they seem to want us to turtle in our cities this turn leads me to believe they think this is a trap. Do we want to send him a message and let him know that we see him, or make a post in the all-players thread? It might make them question what they want to do and set off a flurry of emails that will take them a while to parse through and connect across the timezones. Even something simple like, "Hi Whosit, welcome to the party." What do you think?

Also, note that like we were talking about last night, Whosit has acted late in the turn, usually often us, for the past many turns, and he logged in this morning right after the turn flipped, and moved those galleys. rolleye I am not going to complain about the turn timer rules, but no matter how ironclad you make them, there are always shady loopholes (he has moved units that affect us in our war twice within a short period of time), but you can also give away your intentions based on when you move, and his determination to move after us the past few turns has really set off my paranoia-meter. It adds a pretty silly component to the game, in my opinion.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if he declares war vs India next turn he has to take the first half (joining with the others) so to be within the rules he had to take the first half in this turn too (the last turn not at war) but was free to move whenever he liked before (as he was not and still is not in war with you)?

That's the loophole I'm talking about. His move at the start of this turn was clearly a double move intended to avoid detection. Even though we are not at war, his units a very clearly affecting our movements this turn, so we may as well be at war.

But I'm so sick of all the rules lawyering in this game. I was not expecting it to be so complicated from an organizational standpoint when I signed up. I don't even have anything against double moving. It is a common part of multiplayer Civ, which is why it's so important to keep your units in a flexible position. If I had to defend our land against this onslaught (approaching 60 enemy units!) under a "Blazing" turn timer, in a "two-city elimination" game, we'd have died a long time ago.

Well anyways, I hope they finally attack something, so we can either die or clean this mess out of our land. If we have more defenders in Fredericksburg than they expect, which I'm sure we will, will they start taking 15-20% attacks with their Praetorians, or just add to the pillaging force and eventually get cleaned out after we hit with a couple catapults? I guess we'll find out.

There are lots of people playing the pitboss who want to play like in single player. You hit end turn - everyone else moves - you play - they play etc....

Pitboss isn't designed for it hence the mess.

(my 2 cents anyway! lol)

I think it would be better not to post anything about Whosit, Speaker. We'd probably be better off not letting anyone know that we've spotted their force.

Also, this game has officially reached stupidity level with every team on the globe invading us. Not really sure what to say, other than I don't think I'll be playing another one of these games ever again. rolleye

Would it not feel great to turn this around and win, though? smile

I guess we have officially engaged Tokugawa mode. smile We didn't even welcome Slade to the game in any way, shape, or form.

Chin up. There are still two teams left to invade us! If we somehow manage to stop this attack, I wonder if they'll all pile in for round two?

Quote:Hi India,

I did not have a chance to play my full moves this morning when I
logged in, so I planned on remote-connecting to my civ machine and
playing the rest. However my IP must have changed or something as I
can not connect so I'm wondering (if I can not reach Kalin) if you
would be OK with having a trusted lurker follow my instructions to
make the moves for me? Perhaps somebody such as T-hawk or Krill? I'd
prefer to not have to request a pause. Thanks,

Athlete
I don't have a problem with this. He only has 1 warrior and 1 chariot in our land anyways. OK with you, Sullla?

Yeah, Kathlete isn't exactly the one we're concerned about right now.
