Hmmm, Haram is acting passive-aggressive towards us suddenly. He canceled OB T98; I thought this was just because our scout was about to enter his mainland borders, so I backed the guy off and re-offered. However, he refused. This is pretty fucking cheeky considering he just sailed a WB through my territory to hook a fish on the south coast of his southern island, and also has a warrior sitting on a neutral hill 2NE of Chinook.
On top of that, he's just turned on full EP on us, enough to lose graphs on him by a point, blegh. Just as we were about to get TBS's demos, too... I guess Haram's finally gotten a few zigs up, 40 turns after he got priesthood or whatever? Well, I guess here's where our buildup begins. We probably should hustle a couple triremes out instead of building wealth during the GA, as I had been planning. Maybe we can get a decent navy out and try to browbeat him into OB. I don't like being watched when I can't watch back, it puts my spider-sense on full alert.
Another couple things I don't get about Haram's recent passive aggression. First of all, I can't see why he's worried about me at all, our land neighbors to me seem like the most difficult targets to attack. Surely he is more worried about Fennbandit, who are now matching Haram's city count and contesting Scipio's land along with him, than me? Second of all, he gets income from my routes due to my large cities, but I get nothing from his, due his low pop and having far more OB deals going. In fact, I was all set to cancel OB with Dreylin on T98, over his galley BS (looks like he was just using it to explore, completely oblivious to what a wandering galley looks like to others???), but now would rather keep them just for redundancy's sake. If Haram is worried about land-neighbors, surely it would be better for him if both of his weren't in a cordial business relationship?
Here's another big overview post! I'll do this over three posts; first, overview + statistics, then a post on my thoughts on each player going forward (including ourselves), which is what I think most people want to read in a big overview post, and finally a big post on The Temple of Artemis that I started writing for TBS's section of that 2nd post for reason.
First, General News:
First, that Prophet is propably Haram's, for his first MoM GA. The Parthenon was TBS. Haram re-opened borders with me and stopped EP buildup, which is a relief. I guess his recent actions have just a warning to stay away from me, and I'll stay away from you. To my surprise, Haram's EP graph remained flat... ordinarily I pay very close attention to the EP graphs, but I guess its been hectic lately so I have been as good about it. I had thought my game hadn't been suffering at all, as I only actually play when I get a small break to concentrate (when wife/baby are napping for example) but obviously I'm slipping.
Overview:
19 cities, 83 pop.
Our capital Muddy Waters, w/ a Mint done, and about to hit size 13:
We'll be replacing the grass-river mines and the grass farm with cottages very soon. I project that the city will be size 16 w/ Bureau, an Academy, a Wharf, and positive fpt w/o the Wheat by 1AD.
Numbers:
City counts:
19: Us (T98)
15: Dreylin (T101), Haram (T101)
14: Fennbandit (T99)
13: TBS (T93)
11: Jowy (T98), Borsche (T100)
9: Tsargon (T96)
5: Scipio (T80)
Whip Counts (numbers in parenethesis are pop whipped in last (10/20) turns):
The Blues Brothers: 72 (16/36) pop total; 22 doublepop whips, 28 singlepop whips
TBS: 68 (17/29) pop total; 6 triplepop whips, 18 doublepop whips, 14 singlepop whips
Fennbandit: 37 (6/19) pop total; 4 triplepop whips, 7 doublepop whips, 11 singlepop whips
Haram: 36 (3/18) pop total; 5 triplepop whips, 7 doublepop whips, 7 singlepop whips
Dreylin: 35 (14/24) pop total; 2 triplepop whips, 6 doublepop whips, 17 singlepop whips
Jowy: 29 (8/20) pop total; 4 triplepop whips, 4 doublepop whips, 9 singlepop whips
Borsche: 22 (5/13) pop total; 1 triplepop whip, 5 doublepop whip, 9 singlepop whips
Tsargon: 14 (7/11) pop total; 5 doublepop whips, 4 singlepop whips
Scipio: 0 (0/0) pop total
Fin growth:
Cottages: 8
Hamlets: 14
Villages: 3
Been chopping out forges and such lately, so cottage-count is falling behind a bit, but we'll be throwing down at least 2-dozen more in the next 20 turns. I'm likin' the number of hamlets and villages we've already been able to create. Wharves are still about 10 turns out, I think.
Population and Infrastructure:
Total Population: 83. On T100, 2nd-place TBS had 68 population, according to the victory screen; I had 79 on that turn. (15.11% vs 13%; global average for this 9 player game is 11.11% ofc). On T101, after our whips, it was 15.13% for us and 14% for Haram, which means he's got 76 pop now and grew at least 8 pop last turn. If you don't include us in the global population total, we have +42% population compared to that average.
I think this is the most monuments I've ever built in a game, heh. But, if you need them, you should build them, and, on this map, where we border, in some capacity, 7 out of the other 8 players, needed a lot of monuments in order to secure defensive sites.
People under-value monuments too much, IMHO. I mean sure, it's "wasted hammers" and trying to avoid monuments is a very important thing you should consider when dotmapping. However, trying to skimp on them when you shouldn't will just put you behind. Surely, y'all can all see that our civ has not fallen behind on overall hammers by this point despite "wasting" 300 on monuments?
Demos and Graphs:
Demos:
Power:
TBS at 270k is anomalous; he may be preparing to go in on Jowy again or perhaps even Scipio.
Crop Yield, yum:
GNP:
Haram (and TBS, missing) are still a bit inflated from all their extra culture.
MFG:
Haram just gained an alarming amount of hpt in a single turn, going from like 105 to 130, wtf! Multiple forges coming online plus tile shuffling, or what? His capital finally grew from size 6 to 7, FWIW, and I bet that thing is working all mines/ivory. Haram's been up on us 25 to 30 hpt over the last 10 turns, but we've whipped 13 more pop than him in the same period. So figure, 13*30 - 27.5*10 = 115 hammer advantage for us, which is honestly within margin of error from hidden mfg due to multipliers (i.e. settlers/markets for us, forges for him). We've also got a lot of hammer stuck mid-queue at the moment, which isn't good.
