I don't know if that's what I mean. What would I mean if that was what I meant?

BTW, note that Gav is roading towards me with an axe/spear pair, probably planning to settle on the desert hill. If they invalidate the horse city then I dunno what I'll do...

Er, I meant that the barbarians are here to bring you belated Christmas gifts of experience points! Isn't that great?!?

Turn 66

I'm going to have to plant SE of the horse, so it'll be two turns after the settler completes before horses are hooked. rolleye So I'll finish the settler next turn naturally and save the whip for the chariots. banghead

Well that's annoying. Hope they don't get even more opportunistic.

Turn 68

I've got the horses until t72 or 73 (depending if it takes a turn for the culture to flip when Pazuzu's borders pop.) I hope to get chariots out:
EOT70 (Krillpatine)
EOT71 (Krillpatine)
EOT72 (Krillpatine & 2nd city)
Edit: Looks like the borders will flip straight away EOT71 frown - I'll have to see if I can get a chop into the 2nd city on t71 to get us three chariots...

Thing is, how can I hit back at OT4metra with a CRE neighbour camped right on my doorstep?

Also - are OT4metra at war with everyone they've met? They took a couple of cities off Dantski in the last few turns too.

Turn 70

I hope to start killing some of OT4metra's units next turn. If Gavanth are willing to let me. Pazuzu means I'll probably only be able to make two War Chariots, so Parkin starts a Granary as I think two WC's allow me to last long enough for it to pay off. Hmmm. smoke

In an alternative universe I'm a couple of turns from creating the Pyramids and have the same number of cities as Gavanth... rant

Turn 72

I think this shows everything you need to know - I didn't lose the horses straight away when Pazuzu's borders popped, meaning I could have got a third WC out this turn frown. I'm hiding the WCs from OT4metra in the hope they'll miscalculate (so far they haven't - the spear moved to the hill to join the axes so I couldn't kill them) and showing them to Gavanth in the hope they will back off while I do the revenge that I want to do. I offered Gavanth open borders again, we need a road to enable trade and perhaps for me to buy horses from them when they steal mine :/.

Meanwhile my scout is stopped dead by OT4metra's warrior, but they'll have to take a 50/50 battle to kill him, so he can just wait for the chariot from Alexandria to come get him. I think its either 1W or 1NW of the peak right now.

Hey guys,

I've been meaning to write here already for a while. First of all, too bad about the surprise attack alright

Was there any chance to realistically spot it? Graphs, sentries? If not, I would just say that "shit happens" and there was not really much to do about it. After all, in Pitboss one should anyways play with a bit of a risk to succeed and especially in a pitboss where you very likely started with a decent handicap it's very reasonable to go for farmer's gambit maneuvers. Stating the obvious: Preparing for T50 naval attacks without realistic reasons is a losing mindset...

If OT4metra had just dropped one chariot and razed your capital I would have probably considered that an okay-ish play, but keeping the city that is not even close to being connected to their core area seems really really questionable. If I'm wrong and this will be a huge success for them I'll eat my words, but generally an attack like this is a losing play where the real winners are Gavanth and OT4metra's other neighbors. Of course with another war already going on it seems they are more just playing a troll game instead of really trying to win.

Anyways, I'm really glad to see that you are still playing your turns with thought. I've bitched in our previous games so much about players who give up immediately and just hit enter or start doing king-making moves, so I'm really glad that my teammate is still putting in an effort and makes the game worth playing for remaining competitive players! thumbsup

Based on the above keep up the great sporting attitude! Give OT4metra hell, try to take the capital back and make most out of your position. And if Gavanth comes for your cities give them hell as well! hammer Or at least as much as one can do with a few WCs.. crazyeye

Aha! Thanks for the kind words. I kinda prefer playing by the seat of my pants so they just saved me a bunch of effort planning wonder micro really (winning is for losers).

We met on t48 (although I could have made contact much earlier if I hadn't scouted the south) they attacked 2nd half of t53. I suspect they were planning to attack whoever their neighbor was. If I'd done those player previews Commodore wanted I might have thought org Vikings would get boats out early and sentried the coast, but I'm always surprised by war when people's borders don't touch so I probably wouldn't have bothered. Anyway I'm not too cut up over not being ready, but I am worried that I'll face early rushes in future games if it ends up paying off for them.

When they saw I didn't have copper hooked they probably thought keeping the cap was reasonable. I just hope it's destroying their economy... in a zero-sum game (eg a duel) they made a great move, but I hope it costs them here. Although they're probably going to land the great lighthouse so their conquests (two cities from Dantski also I believe) start to pay off. shakehead

With another couple of war chariots I'd be confident of taking back the capital, but I can't see Gavanth allowing that. duh
