[SPOILER] Krill rambles on

ok so i logged in before to take a look at things. the two main things that stood out were:

1. Damn, gav has a shitload of horchers!!!!
2. Our economy is looking pretty rough we cant even break even at 30% research

i dont think it will be practical for me to hold on to Treveleyan, so i'm likely going to retreat, razing the roads behind me. it looks like i have a bunch of cats and CKN's streaming in from around the country, so depending on how motivated gav is and how fasts he pushes, i may be able to hold him off with only losing trev.

we do have a great artist and a great scientist that just popped this turn, so i'll trigger a GA soon to help out my economy and then joey described a plan to get another 2 as quick as possible to bulb our way to Astro so we can begin settling islands, which im told do exist, as well as the other continent.

i don't really know how well placed gav is to continue to push but after looking at things (very briefly) i feel like the best course of action will be to get peace asap and work on consolodating what we've got. there appears to be a lot of cities without key infrastructure (namely courthouses) so that'll likely be my first order of business.

so uhhh... full disclosure.

i just namesearched myself here because apparently german joey and co have made mention of me + some other badgame stuff and i was curious. i skipped past all the recent thread results from pb27 (i assume everyone has noticed i've taken krill's spot), but i did click on a thread wayy further down the results without checking that wasn't a pb27 thread. apparently joey explained what "getting boaked" meant in someones thread. i closed it immediately when i realised. i cant remember who's thread it was but it was one of the very early pages and i think the only posts i read were in response to a player ranking or whatever.

so uhh. sorry about that. i'll be more careful in future.

since the title is no longer bold in the threadlist, i guess it was von Adlercreutz's thread i accidentally stumbled into.

if you were careful, you would have never have gotten boaked to begin with. smoke

ok so as mentioned, i've retreated out of trevelyn. Gav just has too many horchers and i simply dont have enough defenders.

i've whipped some walls and left behind some spears, which will mean he either burns a couple of horchers taking the city next turn, or will have to delay another turn for his 1-movers to get in range.

i still haven't taken stock of exactly what units Krill has left for me so I'm not sure where things will sit next turn, but i have a number of CKNs streaming in as well as a couple of catapults. Unfortunately the path to Trevelyan and Chesterton is basically all hills, so i can't see myself being able to hit his stack on flat ground. That said, it doesn't appear as if gav has any real answer to CKN's so i might be able to sue for peace once he takes trev.

In other news, Mackoti offered me open borders. Joey told me hes on the other continent so it would seem he has astro already! i had a good look around but couldnt find a boat or a scout/explorer anywhere so he might have just scouted borders and dipped out of sight. i accepted the offer, although it didn't seem to give me any good trade routes yet.

gav has played his turn already and there was no drop in my score (according to civstats) so he's either withdrawn or is waiting for his 1-movers before taking trevelyan. i won't be able to log in for a few more hours to check, though.

here's where we sit on the gavagai front:

he's moved his whole stack, more or less, up to trev leaving behind only the injured units.

my first thought is that i want to leave my units on the same hill 2SE they're on now so that once gav takes Trevelyan I can use a couple of my 2-movers to raze the road 1S and 1E and slow his advance down. the only problems i can see with this is 1) i have no idea if he has engineering or not, in which case he'll be able to hit that stack after taking Trev 2) Whatever units i use to raze the roads will be vulnerable to attack from his 2-movers the following turn.

i'm actually kind of worried, he has a really, really large stack and right now i simply don't have the siege or the pikes i'd need to attack into it. i also have very little in the way of good defenders. If gav wants to push on to Chesterton, I'm not sure i'll be able to hold it. i've whipped a handful of cities doing military builds (mostly CKNs) and will whip some more next turn (maybe). i also switched one city that was building a settler (why???) onto something else. hopefully these whips will deter gav from continuing his push. engineering is at least ~9 turns away.

i'm going to need to pop a GA either this turn or the next, which makes me hesitant to whip further. this is hard. so many big decisions to make! and i don't have the luxury of having any prior knowledge of the current game state. Krill, if you're reading this, I could use some guidance!
