greenline gets rushed and eliminated on turn whatever: Huyana Capac of Mali

Alright, it turns out that you can't share pictures from Dropbox if your account was made after 2012.

So instead, I'll just draw pictures that get the gist of what the screenshots were! Hopefully it'll work. Hopefully.

Whaaat... ? My Dropbox account was made after 2012 (I believe), and I can share pictures. Have you downloaded Dropxbox program to your computer?

Anyway, the link works. Also +1 for the paint work. smile

I haven't downloaded it, no. Does that make a difference?

edit: I installed it and tried using the "Copy Dropbox Link" option but that didn't work.

Yeah, the link you get from that isn't properly formatted to show up as a screenshot. Here's how you can fix it...

Take a link like this:
Code:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nsbmiih77eyi7xr/RBPB%2028_50_05.png?dl=0

Chop off the ?dl=0 part at the end and replace the "www" with "dl":
Code:
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/nsbmiih77eyi7xr/RBPB%2028_50_05.png

Replace "dropbox" with "dropboxusercontent":
Code:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/nsbmiih77eyi7xr/RBPB%2028_50_05.png

And add your screenshot or IMG tags, and you're done:

(Did I really make Leprosy my third city? That can't have been optimal...)

You can use something like Notepad++'s column editing mode to fix multiple links at once, or even write a script to do it automatically if you know how.

Neat! Thanks for the fix. I'm curious as to how you figured that out, though.

Oh, I looked at how other people formatted their dropbox links and copied the method. Dropbox itself was entirely unhelpful.

alright, now that setup mishap is out of the way, we can begin!

I decided to move the scout onto the plains hill south of the capital to check if there was anything so good (quadruple riverside fp gold pls?) that it was worth moving my capital.

Obviously there wasn't so I founded in place and started researching hunting.

Wow that is an ugly shade of orange!!!! I think I'll scout near the banana/floodplains south of the capital next because that's where I want to settle my second city

Also I forgot how to change my name. Been a while since I played MP. So for now I'll just roll with the ALLCAPS.

Soon to come: a picks analysis (once I find out who picked what in this game), "hilarious" drawings, and terrible terrible micro.

Turn 1. Don't count on me playing super early all the time.

Scouting revealed an amazing second city just where I want it:

Cows in the first ring, shares the corn with the capital, and lots of grassland to cottage. It's right by where my workers will be following the original sim plan, too! The only downside is that I'm forced to go for animal husbandry after BW. In ideal circumstances the cow would be a grain or a deer and I could go straight to mysticism (religion for border pop) or archery (depending on where copper is).

Then I remembered how you change your name, so there we go.

And then I figured out mousing over names gives traits. So here are the picks:

Greenline: HC of Mali

Obvious synergy pick that plans to rush Oracle like a total dumb newbie. It does give Skirms and Mints and good techs though, so there's that.

Jowy: Elizabeth of Egypt

Decent combo. I don't think FIN + PHI is anti synergistic as people think because you don't have to run a specialist economy to get the most use out of PHI. Most civs are gonna have to stunt a high food city running scientists for an early academy at some point and PHI lets you do that faster. And most civs build a NE city at some point, and PHI just gets more value out of it. My main problem with PHI is I don't like or understand lightbulbing and I think after the first scientist and/or prophet great people don't give that much value except for engineers.

Pairing Lizzie with Egypt is good because you can pop out prophets real easy. So Jowy's probably going for an early religion with this pick. Or he could just be trying to rush someone, which is where being Mali comes in handy. It's much easier to clear a War Chariot choke with Skirms then with archers.

Picklepickl: Darius of Germany

Also a decent choice assuming the starts are mirrored or close to mirrored. You get FIN/ORG and good start techs but give away any unique units or buildings until the game is over. Scary in the midgame but not as much early on.

Sian: Also HC of Mali

See above except done by someone who isn't a newb.

My goal is to keep an eye on who founds Hinduism first. If it's Sian then chopping Oracle might not be possible because he's beelining it faster. If it's Jowy then I'll have to speed Oracle plans up. If it's me then I hopefully have it in a lock smile

Turn 2: well that was quick. I decided to scout in a circle around my capital first.

Scouting reveals the one barren part of this super lush map. Next turn capital borders will pop and I'll have something more interesting to talk about. zzz

Control + r for resource bubbles. Makes it easier to see what is what.

What is your Oracle objective? Also, check through the civilopedia for building bonuses for traits. FIN won't get anything for Darius but ORG gets a few, including lighthouses. Worth a look to be sure you have it right.
