[spoilers] Boldly Global Warming - Viva la revolución Industrial!!

So, Xenu, when. Are you going to live up to your team duties here? I'm still mashing buttons every turn.

I said I'd be your dedlurker, not a teammate! And true to form the is the only thread I'm reading in this game. Obligations met?!

I dunno, something about the different starting era makes me less interested for some reason. That and not having as much free time at the moment. I'll try to log in over the weekend. Is there anything in particular you want me to advise on?

Not particularly. It's just dreadfully dull playing the turns without any discussion.

What's your current short term goal? Who do you hate the most? Why does the mapmaker hate you? What's an embarrassing childhood story about Xenu?

That whole Wall of Fire thing, really, was just a big misunderstanding. It was 75 million years ago for crying out loud. Some people just want to hold a grudge I guess. noidea

You want an embarrassing story? Ask el capitan here about one of the several times he totaled the Enterprise. A little too much smoke at the helm if you ask me.

Bulb Communism and Steam power. Swap into State Property and start working some hammers. Profit.

REM for taking the combo that I really wanted and spamming out lots of cities while I'm last in nearly every demo. SPI is off to a slow start compared to him. We'll see if (many) fewer cities getting tall and muscular on SP/caste workshops can give me enough units to call him on his settler spam.

That's what they do. This map was mirrored...ish. Pretty close but a few starts had this or that random thing that made them a bit stronger IMO. But mackoti's start is probably the worst start on the entire map, or on any map that has ever been rolled. Just ask him, I'm sure he'll agree.

But the real reason the mapmaker hates me?

Xenu was never a child. He was born as a boring 30-something.

Alright, I know you've been wanting input for a while but I've been pretty busy. Things haven't been going well at the office lately, not with everyone finding out about my predecessor's involvement with The Company. I was thinking I'd be able to brush it off the incident with a few boilerplate platitudes about restoring dignity to the government and cleaning up corruption, but it looks like the sheep are really pissed off this time so I may have to actually do some real work here to restore apathy so we can get back to real business.

So, until then, back to state business? I had trouble logging in, as you saw in the tech thread. Stupid technocrats. Can't even make a bulletproof login interface. I thought I had crashed the game, then remembered we're running a different mod than usual here on Company computers. I'm still getting used to the interface and I'm not sure that all the tool tips are giving good advice right now. I mean,

I'm not sure that's always great advice. But anyway, back to business, I finally got the right version of the software loaded and I think I'm reading these spreadsheets correctly.

Questions, why are we in a trade war with DZ? You may want to shut that down and keep a close eye out to the east, that's a lot of power they've amassed this quarter. Speaking of the east, why earmark the city 1W of the horse? Maybe 2W on the hill would be better. As long as you can get some culture into that city I don't see why you'd lose control of the horses, and cities on hills are harder for protesters to storm. It looks like you're just not getting the corn, so no need to settle on flat land to contest it. Take the hill and its defensive bonus. By the way, I assume you see the Kremlin + universal suffrage rush buy/slavery economy in place to the east-- I'm envious of their efficiency! I assume that's how they've acquired the power they have. Given the number of cities they have (8), the relatively small size of them all, and the civics, I'd say it's a near certainty they're cheaply going to whip/buy an army to attack someone. And not with some surplus grade Soviet era trash, either. Looks like it's going to be either us or Gaspar from the shape of the map and the power chart. I'd assume it's coming our way, damn those Commie bastards. I'd suggest rotating the machine gun down to the eastern border, and making more stuff to go with it. Although it looks like you're already working on that. Don't forget that OT4E is a pretty aggressive player. Not that Dreylin isn't, for that matter. And they're both known Libertarians and are vehemently pro-transparency. Now is not a good time for them to open our cities and inspect our books because the accountants haven't finished er, reconciling everything yet from what I understand. Not that I'm asking questions, being new here. Plausible deniability, that's the best path forward with The Company!

Anyway, other than that whole eastern situation, it's definitely a good time to expand. I like the apparent plan to expand by only capturing barb cities. We'll save a ton of hammers doing it that way and those damnable Greenlanders will never know what hit 'em. REM got the good traits for an industrial start (IND/ORG), but if we get enough barb cities to spawn we'll catch right up to him! In general I like what you're doing, just think we need more of everything, and we need to get more of everything faster than everyone else. If we do that, we'll be fine!

These mirrored maps are confusing to look over. But it helps that our section of the map is much brighter than the parts occupied by other people. That makes it much easier. Although I do like how our part of the map looks. Localized graphic boost? Must be a feature of the software mod. Maybe our technocrats aren't entirely worthless. But are you sure you're doing this right?

Anyway, gotta run. Lots of protests going on still, everyone is still pissed about the last prime minister's holdings with The Company! lol Stupid plebes, whatever. Like they think I'll be any different.

I guess I haven't updated much. No pictures in 14 turns. I'm sure that's a record for me. Not a lot has changed but things are changing now. First, some good luck:

A barb city for me. Not quite as good as if I had gotten it early like the other guys but better late than never. I should get this one cleanly. And I'll have two settlers due EoT 289. Also better late than never. I've treated this like an ancient start where it takes ~40(!) turns to put down a new city. smoke for me but I'm not treating this as the most competitive experience of my life, more like testing out new ideas. Does going vertical and putting all eggs in a heavy hammer capital basket pay off vs. a going wide and tech stupid strategy? Probably not in base BtS where rifles are still 1-pop drafts. If this was RtR (2-pop rifle drafts) I'd like my position better. That said, though, I have plenty of population AND hammers to fight off an invasion if anyone wants to come at me so...

...which I wouldn't be surprised if Dreylin did. He appeared to be moving units to the east and is currently at war with Gaspar/Noble (14ww, so something happened) but he's swung his units back to the position of two turns ago, making me think things are cooling off over there and he's now eyeballing weakling me with just three cities and no horses hooked up. I'll be stronger in a few turns, at least in the psychological metric of "omg this nub only has 3 cities still lolwut!". And I'm putting out a few units too, though I haven't dropped OR yet, partly because I'm going to spit out a couple more missionaries but mostly for the flexibility of not having to wait five turns to swap into nationalism if Dreylin/OT4E start moving units more stridently in my direction. Having visibility on his closest cities helps my comfort level but he may opt to kick me out since he's giving away free trade routes (he's in mercantilism, I'm in SP). In that case I may try for a war/peace to gauge his intentions. If he declines peace then I know what's coming and can swap to military techs and build up. I figure I can have a stack of 12 rifles, 6 grens, and 6 cats without whipping if he tries an overland invasion. I still have a GM on ice to fire a GA for extra hammers if needed. Turns out the GM can't bulb anything. I was hoping that Assembly Line would be possible but that's only possible with a GE. Oh well. bang

Graphs/Demos:

I'm missing REM's graphs but I'll have them next turn when I hit 43 EP. I guess I could have waited until then but you still may not have had a screenshot for another two weeks so here you go!

Crop yield is bad but it's not actually this bad. The capital is not working deer/sheep (9f) but yeah, I'm still solidly last there. Three new cities will pick this up nicely. I'm not exactly optimistic about things but it isn't really as bad as it seems. We should improve nicely in the next several turns.
