[Spoilers] Dreylin's short visit to a late Era

Also Cavalry with charge promotion still goes against MG because of stupid first strike mechanics:

Lets whip Cav in new city, finally ftw

t285 -

Looks like the Rifle is heading back to MP the other city:

Offered Donovan Peace:

He & BGN have signed also.

And here we are ready to go:

I Drafted Goats into unhappiness, but pindicator has not played since we offer the trade for his Sugar; that would make the 1 happy difference for Goats.

Played after Gaspar, so will have to do the same next turn. Plan is:

1) Hit city with Charge promoted Cavs
2) complete road
3) remaining Cavs into new city
4) move the Rifle from Donkeys to MP new city
5) Keep Galleons out of sight on "t287" tile?

Next turn put everything onto the tile 1W of second city?
Reply

1) Ok
2) OK
3) Cavs stay in Donkeys or 1E from it. Do not show that we have more cavs
4) Rifle to the new city (the captured 1) against his rifle if he decides to try taking city back.
5) Empty Galleon must finish in Goats. Others can stage anywhere, he doesnt see T287 point with worker, right?
6) Starting point is 1W from Donkeys

Lets see if we can start all the campaign 1 turn earlier. I need sometime to examine screenshots...

It seems we can do it 1 turn earlier, considering the following:
1) just 2 galleons will carry and unload slow units
2) those 2 we load with the rest of cavs after unloading according to the initial plan
3) Galleon from Goats with 3 Cavs will meet Galleon from Chickens and reload Cavs there. It will finish T287 1 tile further to the east than the one from Goats but this is enough to reach city at T288 and deliver cavs to Tiger woods.
4) Other slow units will go by foots or will jump in the galleon we leave behind (which is unable to get to Robert Bentley at T288). We need them only when fighting for Gaspars capital and I am sure they will still come in time.

The main concern is that Gaspar may keep his rifle on the forest hill. 3 Grens must be enough to get it even amphibiously, but we will carry heavy losses. So what kind of slow units do we pick up? I think 3 grens, 2 rifle and 1 treb. Catas we will need later.

Also possible that he chops that forest or do something else with his rifle.

OK, I'm pretty sure I understand everything.

Thoughts:

Chances are that the Workers will not be on the Corn next turn. Either that will have moved back to the hill to chop the forest, or they will be on the Horses. If the latter, I think it's worth exposing an additional Cavalry to grab them, particularly if the attack goes well.

One thing we could do about the possibility for the Rifleman to fortify on the forest hill is to push one of the Galleons forward so that it could unload into Robert Bently the following turn - if we had 2Grens & Rifle then we could use the Rifle to take the (empty) city amphibiously, then move the Galleon in to unload and then the Grens won't have the amphibious penalty. Galleon would need to go 1W of Corn ... infact I'm not sure that wouldn't be out of his sight anyway? We'd need to cover with the Frigate incase he has managed to build an East Indiaman here.

I'm working out how best to juggle the Galleons & cargo to get everything in position.

Also, I forgot to mention that I drafted Guinea Pigs last turn as we discussed. It finished its Barracks build and I wasn't sure what else we needed so I set it on Wealth. I didn't think we needed another Spy, and it seemed too far from the front for a unit (although maybe we want a Gren locally?) I also considered a ship - probably Frigate - but BGN had moved his Galleon through into the lake (taking a look at Rabbits?) and I thought it least likely to provoke if no ships in the area for now. Library was my other thought, but maybe it's too early for that?

If Donovan takes Peace, I will build the WB in Chameleons for Goldfish, otherwise a Barracks. Everywhere else is whipping Cavs.

Well it doesn't look like your visit to the late era will be that short based on what's going on right now. Maybe time for an updated thread title when you declare? If so I suggest, keeping with 'Dreylin's short' and the self-deprecation, 'Dreylin's short victorious war.' Given all the civic swapping (governmental changes) and the spending spree/whipping/drafting to build military, a comparison to the People's Republic of Haven seems appropriate. wink

1. Moving galleon forward is great idea. Sometimes I am too focused on some details ignoring obvious possibilities.
Though the tile 1 W from horses is visible to him. But who cares if we have already taken city from him?

+ I think that sight of the single galleon can make him move rifle back to the city better than anything else, in the city it will be much easier target.
+We can also take that city a turn earlier and chase rifle if it decides to run back to Tiger woods.
+ It wont reveal our real intentions, but will look just as a proper reaction against his aggressive expansion.

(!) But we also need to put 3 cavs on the tile 1N from sheeps to be able to jump into the galleon or just stay in that city. He wont see that tile.

2. I think running after workers is not good idea. We need the most cavs we can to jump for the Tiger Woods, this is the main challenge. Everything before is just a warm up. Though we can get some workers with slow movers from galleons. For example we can use 1 cata or rifle to capture workers on corn (finishing on 1SW from it) and then fill the empty slot with something from the city.
If they step on horses we obviously take them with something from the city.

3. About a Guniea Pigs. I am ok with Library. Overflow worker probably or lets just let it grow to whip settler with 5 pop.
We might also need stables there like everywhere else, but I think we are ok for now. About ships I think you are right we do not really need them there yet.

Personally I was thinking of "Dreylin's short and profitable war" ... but we'll have to see. mischief

Or alternatively "Dreylin shortens everyone's life expectancy" invoking the double-whammy of whip/draft on us and hammer on them.

Or possibly more accurately "Dreylin's short ride on OT4E's coattails"
