I will be able to log in over lunch (three hours or so from now) and finish our turn. Will let you know if anything unexpected happens.
Off topic: what do you guys think of CiV coming out?

Well, there's not a lot of info yet is there?
I do think that the hex system looks great, but I'm not sure about the ranged combat.
A lot of people are going to have to upgrade their pc to play the game...
And I already mentioned this in the Civ 5 thread: I'd have rather seen Alpha Centauri 2 finally appear.

I've been waiting for CiV for so long and now that it's here, I'm not as excited as I thought. I'd take Alpha Centauri 2 and a REAL and GOOD remake of X-Com in a heartbeat.

I don't know if you guys ever played an old turn-based strategy game from Microprose called Master of Magic (not even sure it was ever released in the U.S.)
I'd pay good money for a decent successor... (don't speak to me of the Might & Magic franchise crap!)

I never played Master of Magic... I sure seems like oldschool Microprose had all the best strategy games though. Sigh, when did graphics become better than fun?
You mean Heroes of M&M is crap or just M&M itself?

don't know enough about it to form an opinion but i'm looking forward to it
i agree, i'd love to see alpha centauri 2.
short rant about civ: it's been an annoyance to me for years that italy keeps getting excluded and i guess ciV will be no different. i don't understand how celts, vikings, HRE, byzantium (etc, etc) are considered separate civs but rome + italy are the same thing.
i guess we know who to thank for: da vinci, galileo, columbus, dante, marco polo, michelangelo, machiavelli, casanova, thomas aquinas, francis of assisi, vespucci (the guy america's named after), the medici, vivaldi, opera, garibaldi, the renaissance and unfortunately fascism & mussolini, scientists (fermi fibonacci avogadro volta torricelli galvani meucci) and artists (giotto botticelli caravaggio raffaello tiziano canaletto modigliani canova bernini donatello), as well as the 44 World Heritage Sites (more than any other country in the world) currently present in Italy, Florence and Venice, contributions/crimes against fashion depending on your taste, as well as italy's standing in the modern world exemplified by its membership in the G8 and being a founding member of the EU and NATO - Ancient Rome.
glad i got that off my chest

I'm afraid that apart from Garibaldi, there is no real leader that could plausibly represent Italy... or wait, maybe there is:
Sylvio Berlusconi of the Italians (AGG/FIN) !!

how YOU doin' ilios, i agree with you that garibaldi would be the ideal choice, lorenzo de medici is another viable one. i just don't think all that stuff i mentioned should just be swept under the carpet
anyway onto more serious matters:
i'm logged in to have a look and there are a couple of points:
1) a forest has grown on our intended city site, which will delay settling by 1 turn. the solution is to go for TW before archery and get a road built 1W or 1SW of DIM before the settler's done. let's hold off deciding until we see if we have copper.
2) that looks like good land down by the sheep tricky dick just revealed. an alternative to the above might be a different dotmap (although it was my impression the one we had fit together pretty well). anyway, tricky SW seems the way to go next turn. i'll have a look at the dotmap we sent ottomans and see if it can be improved (just in case - again, my impression is what we came up with fit really well).
3) it's been quiet but the next couple of turns are full of events we get our second worker (proposed name: sysiphus) out next turn, the same time the gold tile comes online. in 2T we get BW and reveal copper in the hill me mined north of DIM :neenernee and in 3T DIM will be at size 4 with a spanking new warrior inside it (i think that's still the plan?). good times!
4) we're dead last in power that'll change in 2T though. on the other hand, our GNP is 12 versus 21 for the leaders (india, stonehenge), meaning when we hook that gold up we'll be be the fastest researchers (assuming in the meantime others don't hook up their own golds, which i'd imagine they'll have nearby as we did).
