Zalson plays one turn at a time [COMPLETE]

Turn 23: 3080 BC

Build:
Worker (7T)

Research
Mining (1T)

I simulated a pottery vs bronze working development and bronze working is the better choice. The chops will speed that second settler -- but pottery is the next move. Chop out the settler and then chop/whip out the granary.

More screenshots tomorrow.

This is a pretty cool thing you're doing. Too bad the map you rolled is so atrocious. At least it will be a bit of a challenge.

You switched to a second worker, but what's your plan for the next 20 turns? Going for a religion? Getting a settler out? Will the 2nd worker help you accomplish a goal faster, or will you just run out of things to do faster?

Something else to consider with Bronze Working: You have 8 forests which can be chopped, but I am not sure if slavery will be a good idea before a granary (and may only be used sparingly afterwards). It doesn't look like any city will have the food bonuses to recover quickly from a whip.
I'm just doing my best out here.

Thanks, Whosit.

My plan for the next 20 turns:

Tech: complete worker tech
Build: settler #1 and settle city 1.

The second worker will help me get the second city up and running sooner by chopping out the settler and the granary. With the low-food start, I figure the granary will help me improve growth.

A secondary goal is scouting--I need to figure out where to put that second city. The first warrior will head south; if there's a fish off that Southern Dye, then Fishing becomes a higher priority -- and the city should go down there. Rice and Fish will be my highest food city (the image below -- a few turns old as it is -- illustrates that.

After 20T, I'm not sure what I'll need. It depends on the rest of the land and my opponents. But thanks for the question; articulating my reasoning is a big part of why I'm doing this and I've appreciated the feedback so far.

T24:

Build:
Worker (6T)
FP farm (4T)

Research:
Mining (done) -> Bronze Working (14T; will drop with the gems online)

I do have a lush(ish) FP river valley to the north... with a plains cow (of course).

That's a really awkward map you've rolled there. Barren then crippling amounts of FPs.

You might find a good spot to relocate the capital to in that though. (1W of the warrior will have the PC and 15 FP in BFC but +5 unhealth if my fog gazing is correct.

We'll have to see. It is a pretty brutal map though.

Update coming tonight.

A 3 turn update (T24 to T27):

Moving the warrior SE-SE-SE (I think) uncovered a dry wheat! It's better than nothing -- I'll need to explore around those peaks to see if there are any other resources that make that single food option a viable option. With this amount of food, it might be. I could plant 1NE of that silk to be able to share the cow dancing

Research:
Bronze Working (11T)

Finish FP farm

If someone else founds Hinduism in the next 7 turns I will be vindicated in my choice to avoid early religion. Otherwise I will feel quite the fool. With this amount of food, I should have probably started trying to grow several weeks ago.

Been busy lately, so a bunch of turns are delivered at once.

The big news is I think I've decided where city #2 should go for now. It's the x.

Gets me wheat, a floodplains on the border pop from the capital, and a gold when I pop borders here. A decent second city and -- with the food I have available, significantly better than anything else I've got.

Mecca:
Growth 4T
Warrior 1T

3T into gems
1T into FP road (probably should have moved worker 2 onto the gems and burned a turn but oh well).

Ctrl-R, use the resource indicators. Nobody can see what this or any other city site has without them.

Despite being food-poor, this start seems pretty commerce- and happiness-heavy. Looking forward to seeing what you make of it! Just a small correction - east is right and west is left - you can remember it by the fact left and west share the same vowel sound, if your brain is wired that way.

Thanks for the feedback, T-Hawk. I usually play with the resource indicators turned on for that exact reason; don't know why I turned them off here. I'll get an overview shot of the land with one tonight, if I can.

TheHumanHydra: *lesigh* where'd I get my cardinal directions mixed up? I'm afraid that no mnemonic device will be able to assist me...
