Quote:Also, I'm starting to think we should start naming the units. I was thinking we could name the military units after Targaryens starting with Aegon I, and we could name the mounted units after dragons. If we run out of names, we can just up the roman numerals as necessary. I would have done it already, I just don't know what to call the workers and scouts. We could name the scout after someone known for their great scouting, perhaps Ramsay Bolton . The workers, I don't know. Name them after members of vassal houses?
Earlier you asked for naming schemes. I will get on that as my break-time activity.
Goals:
* Combat Unit Naming Scheme
* Worker Unit Naming Scheme
* Scout Naming Scheme
I do like the idea of naming combat units after vassal houses, actually. That's the whole point of vassalage/bannermen right? Sworn swords? So, we go great houses first and then we can rename great generals with, well, great generals from that house?
So the vassal houses go:
* Baratheon
* Lannister
* Tully
* Greyjoy
* Stark
* Martell
* Tyrell
Scouts are sellswords/companies?
* Vargo Hoat
* Brown Ben Plumm
* Daario
* Jon Connington
Workers
This is the tough one. I like the idea of vassal houses for this one, too. Maybe we use that here and use the actual names of lords for the units?
So Lannister is a worker but our combat units are: Lord Tywin, Sir Jamie, Tyrion, Sir Lancel, Sir Kevan?
That's about all I'm good for right now so I'll try to get a better list of names for each going once we decide.

Just logged in to this. Should have been more wary of a rush; I could have a spear there if I had whipped a turn earlier. Pindicator has second half so he'll hit us before the whipped spear appears.
We're fucking dead unless we get lucky rolls. We need 2 victories to survive, and the first one is slightly in our favor (2*(1+.25(hills)+.25(fortify)+.25(warrior defending city)+.4(culture)) = 4.3 > 4 for the chariots. The second warrior has no fortify and only has 3.8 strength. Even if the first warrior wins, he'll almost certainly take damage and have worse odds when he fights again, so the second warrior has to win against the second chariot for best odds. I did a few runs in WB and we survived 5/20 times. If we survive, we win, if we don't we die.
Had a Spear due in 1 turn in Volantis and whipped another. The overflow should let us get another one right after.
Switched to a spear after taking this screenshot in Tyrosh. Also turned on avoid growth so it'll autoraze if pindicator gets there.
We'll decide on a naming convention if we survive.

No, let's devote all our energies to our naming scheme. That seems like an appropriate action here ...
So we'll survive with Volantis but likely will lose Valyria. Do we want to try to strike out with our ... 1 extra spear? What's the incoming stack like?
I agree we should have seen this coming but ... well, this is my first multiplayer game in about 10 years. So ... yeah ...
Let's damn the torpedoes. Full speed ahead. Or at least find out how we can make it tough for pindicator. He deserves that much for this entirely reasonable play dastardly backstab.

That hurts. Literally 1 turn makes the difference between an annoying probe and probable death? You were working on this exact problem, you were just a smidge slower than you needed to be

You want to change your strikes to s's for RB's formatting to work.

What we do next if Valyria falls depends on whether pindicator razes it. He sent an archer along so perhaps he intends to hold the city. If he doesn't raze, we can strike back with the 2 spears from Volantis. If we try to attack his city with spears he'll be able to whip another archer there. Even if he's only got a warrior there now and the archer we saw earlier is the one he's sending east, it's still not that likely to work.
Right now he's just got chariots and archers but he got bronze working recently; he spent at turn of anarchy on slavery. We could send a spear or two and try to block his copper and keep him from getting axes.
Other than that I don't think there's much we can do besides mass units in Volantis and hold out as long as possible. Tyrosh will go down a turn or 2 after Valyria most likely, but if not we can chop the copper tile, hook it up and mass units.
Dcodea doesn't have copper hooked up. We could have gone straight for his capital with axes and he'd have no time to hook up copper in either city of his and taken all of his land. If I hadn't been so focused on taking dcodea out I might have given more concern to our paper-thin warrior defense. On such an unusually cramped map where you already know somebody's been taken over, pindicator's play, and ours which was mostly the same except with axes instead of chariots is really strong.
BTW, good luck to him withstanding the wave of chariots coming west, and good luck to everybody else taking on Pindicator/Commodore with 3 players' worth of land.
For naming scheme, I like using the lords of the houses for combat units and sellswords for scouts. For workers, it feels weird to have some units named after characters and others after houses. How about prostitutes for the workers? Or maybe sellswords as workers and lump scouts with combat units?

So essentially, you need to win 2/3 combats to live eh? and you calculate a 4.3 v 4 and a 3.8 v 4. Winning both of these is about a 50% followed by a 50% and a little chance to win the third fight with a damaged warrior. So about 30%? It's not a definite loss, and you'll be safe after. Will it be a blood feud then?

If we hold, I think we get that axe out of Tyrosh and go prospectin' in dcdoea's land. Let's stop him from getting copper.

I realize that my previous post sounds a little foolish: REM, I'm not sure if we'd have a blood fued against pindicator. If we can absorb dcodea, then sure.
It's just hard to have a blood feud after you've lost all your blood, see?

What do we say to the god of death?
NOT TODAY!!
Jon Snow or Arya Stark would be good names for the surviving warrior(s), giving homage to their amazing plot armor.
If we've got plot armor, does that make us the heroes?
Not sure what to do immediately. Blood feud speaks to me on some level, but pindicommodore won't go down easy. Or they will, given the right circumstances as REM found out in PB27.
I don't think that applies in this situation. This isn't calling somebody's farmers gambit bluff, this is counterattacking somebody who just gave us a reason to strike back and knows it. Their possession of fast workers also works in their favor since they can get more hammers/turn out of chopping than we do since they don't have to spend a turn moving onto forests on flatlands. I think their capital is 4 pop, they generally have bigger cities and just switched to slavery so they can whip more than us too.
It would be great if we could hold the east and take over dcodea in the west, and then later come back at pindicator with a much bigger production base but we may not be able to spare much for attacking dcodea. Dcodea has no copper, but he might have horses. I'll post graphs next turn and try to see if I can find a spike on his power graph that corresponds to animal husbandry. Or archery.
He didn't send any workers to his northern city, so if he tries to get copper there not only will he have to use workers built there, but he'll have to build a long road to connect it all. His southern city doesn't even have culture on the copper yet, and his worker in the area was making a cottage last I saw.
One or two axes may be sufficient to take out dcodea, but we've got two seasoned veterans on our right and they are not to be underestimated. Dcodea can be underestimated, and he's not going anywhere (unless OT4E eats him) so we should be extra sure we've got the east secured before we go west. That shouldn't be too hard once we get protective archers and walls into play, which in combination (and especially with hills as both of our eastern border cities have) are super annoying pre-catapults.

Very very woo.

That is, unless they did something else. Does pindicator have any issues with us logging in outside of our turnsplit?
I agree that we should proceed cautiously on our eastern border. How many units are we currently facing in that theatre? I'd really like us to go take a bite out of dcodea, just because he doesn't have any strategic resources yet. Maybe an alpha strike at the capital, if we can get 2 axes? That might be enough to knock him out? Or at least cause him to throw in the towel?
Good luck! (again)
