Nyles wrapped up AH at end of turn, so he's gonna learn how he settled just off a horse this turn . Why is everybody spending their EP on me? ![]()

Turn 064
Borders popped at Torheven. Fish hooked up, granary started. With Pottery done we're going straight for Iron Working. 308 beakers, 20 turns at break even. This has me thinking about hooking up that Fur tile... but we'll get there. And even though we will be planting a number of cities soon, there are the gem tiles and 6 more seafood tiles at 2c a piece. So I don't expect us to go broke; hopefully we'll even increase our bpt a bit while growing. As I hook up the furs and Ivory I'll start planting some cottages at the capital, and the gems city is a naturally good spot for cottages as well. If we can expand while teching this could really be an insanely lush land. Already in our borders, or about to be, are:
City #5 comes next turn, the one that claims the gems. gsorel just planted his 7th. DTG just did his 5th.

Turn 065
So something I've been thinking a lot more in these recent turns is commerce, and a close relative to that in the game is maintenance. Looking at my maintenance at the start of the turn, I saw: Unit Cost: 2g City Cost: 7g Civic Cost: 1g I wanted to make note of that, because it was time to settle city #5: ![]() After settling the costs jumped - Unit Cost: 1g City Cost: 10g Civic Cost: 3g Which freaked me out a bit about settling cities that aren't going to be productive *cough* Green Dot *cough*. So I've revised the plan a bit, and instead we're going to start growing a little sooner, going to build a worker in Andrad next instead of a settler, and going to delay the green dot city a little bit while we improve all our luxuries and start some cottages. I really don't want StarDoor to beat me to it, but I also need to manage the balance sheet, especially with 2 more cities definitely coming in the next 7 turns. I think to compensate I'm going to need to put one of my axes out towards that green dot to keep StarDoor just from easily moving there and claiming it. Make him bring some units along at least. I mean, hopefully it won't be an issue -- he shouldn't take it before he claims his own forested gems city, but you never know what someone will get into their head is a good idea... I'm also going to shuffle some worker priorities around -- we're going to hook up those gems straight away, and to get it done ASAP the worker out of Andrad is going to also shift east. The worker west of the copper is going to hook up the furs instead of prep-chopping for the White Dot city, and the worker down at Torheven is going to take over the White Dot duties while leaving Torheven to work sugar and lake tiles until it whips it's own worker out. I want to start some cottages, but A) I don't have the spare worker turns, and B) I don't have population to work anything more than my special tiles right now. So the one thing I do want to do is grow my cities, and the only way to do that is to hook up these resource tiles. C&D DTG settled city #6 and gsorel settled #8, and if you are getting a sense of deja vu then you're not the only one. Nyles consisitenly plays late in the turn, no matter when the turn seems to happen. It's annoying and makes me prone to murderous thoughts.

Well, I can't make my mind up about what to do with green dot and Andrad; despite my reservations about having weak cities be a drain on the economy and slowing the tech speed to Iron Working, at the same time there really is no point to teching IW so soon without that green dot. So Commodore has talked some sense into me and we're back to the original plan.
I have been forgoing the whip in a lot of cities as well, because right now every city is working special resource tiles almost exclusively. But while I am sure that's a good choice, does that extend to building granaries? Or are granaries so good that I should whip off any tile to get them out fast?

I was more hoping to escape the math homework with a good generalizing rule. But I was kind of afraid that would be the answer

I thought that attacker gets to choose the side of the turn timer he gets to use, since defender generally gets the advantage. So it's not as if him delaying -- assuming he's intentionally delaying -- each turn is actually accomplishing anything. He could be also in a split with dcodea, I'm just whining at nothing really.
