The elf tilts his head slightly, as if deciding to answer. With a slight shrug, he addresses Niall. "I told your elder, I am one who Watches. This seemed of interest. There is a story here. It is now unfolding. Do what you will and I will continue to watch." The Watcher crouches back, slightly more relaxed. His entire demeanor seems dismissive.

'Did you happen to watch one who looks like me, my brother, come here? Do you know what became of him?'

The elf glances at the eastern door and then looks back at you steadily. He seems disinclined to speak any further.

I thought as much.

With a glance back at the elf, Niall tries the eastern door, a stony frown on his brow all he can do to steel himself.

The door is locked, but you note that the key is the same one as was in the other door. You open the door.

The room is dank and dark, smelling of human wastes and seawater. In the corner sits Kile, who looks up into the dim light of the lamp and the fire as if dazzled. "H...hello? You're not him..." He seems confused, starved, and not all here mentally.

In the room are several crates, boxes, and chests; some are smashed, most are damaged and waterlogged. Two chests are iron-bound and seem entirely intact; they have pin-style combination locks.

Is anyone trained to pick locks?
Is there a skill for picking locks, or do you have to be a rogue?
Surprise! Turns out I'm a girl!

Disable device. Or you could look at the locks for combination clues:

The chest is locked with a combination of pins; the twenty-six possible pins are each etched with a letter rune; there are slots for seven to unlock the mechanism. In the first three positions are the pins for R, V, and O in order, the last pin is G. There are seven pin slots total. Etched on the wood below the lock is the image of a twisted prism.

The second chest likewise has a pin-keyed lock, but with this one the pins are numbered with hash marks. The first two pins are 2 and 17, the fourth is 13. Again there are seven pin slots total.

'Kile. You fool. It's your brother.'

Niall squats, snaps his fingers in his brother's face, then - 'hmph' - tips his canteen to the listless fellow's lips. Unslinging his pack, Niall crushes a ration cake and puts some of the crumbs on his brother's tongue, forcing them down with water. Then he leans Kile's head back against the rock to rest, ruffling his hair half-lovingly.

I call Rovagug for the first combination, but I don't know how my character would know that.

Kile coughs weakly. "Niall? How..." He blinks. "You came. Should have known better. Damn that crazy dwarf. You got him, right?" He shudders and clutches his rib cage, which shows clear signs of a savage beating. There is an iron manacle around his arm, the chain attached to it run through a hollow in the stone cave wall. There is a keyhole in the manacle but it is too small to be the door key.

'We're going to have to return for you with your key. You just rest here.'

An afterthought - 'Have you ever seen anyone enter the combinations for these chests?' Over his shoulder: 'Someone ask that "Watcher" the same thing, before he walks away.'
