He has navigation now for a +3 bonus so I would not think so. I'm kicking myself for not picking it, I should have guessed that there were a lot of colonies in the deck as military weak players had seeded a lot.

No bet from rho at all? I guess I Inhabited Territory isn't that great, and that could have prompted an attack by chumchu before the turn rolled. I ended up getting it, and paid the six like I expect for the last one: two units and two cards. I'm wondering if it was worth it in the end--basically I spent 5 production, 7 food, and two defense cards to gain one pop and two yellow tokens--it helps that I used Barbarossa to save a production and food, but maybe I should have let chumchu have it and make him entirely rebuild his military next turn (or hope he got more colonization cards--presumably that's the case for betting 5 in the first place).

As for the rest of the turn after rebuilding my military, there wasn't that much special happening--I picked up Cannon and discovered Coal, but the real big deal was picking up Kremlin, and of course that's the move I have the most questions about. Kremlin seems really good--it's basically a government upgrade you're spending production rather than science on (and I'll have a lot of production once I finally can upgrade a mine or two to Coal), the unhappy face seems negligible with my investment in Arenas, and the culture is a nice bonus. Still, the alternative was Ocean Liner, and that seems good too--just not seven Civil Actions good, especially when I already have an investment in food with Selective Breeding. Honestly, this is the turn where I probably should have been taking a bunch of actions to trade Civil Actions for resources, except that none of them were cheap--presumably I'll be able to do so next turn, when I'm spending all my production on a single Coal upgrade and the actions that are currently 3 are 2 or 1.

Regarding colony, I would have bid 5 in your position as you saw on the last colony that I had no colonisation cards then. That could have given you the colony for 1 pop, depending on Rho ofc.

I would say that Kremlin and coal was a bit too much in your position. You still want to upgrade selective and build some military. You can maybe do something with one of coal and Kremlin before the next age but no both. Getting an efficient upgrade instead of Kremlin is the best move as you could get an extra build in next turn.

How much food do I need though? After I upgrade the second Agriculture to Selective Breeding, I might need one more farm I think. Similarly, upgrading Coals helps me get both military and Kremlin eventually, and I've taken a Cannon already--though to be honest, it isn't much of a spoiler that Napoleon showing up is a big break for me.

Another interesting turn (thanks rho for saving me a Civil Action wink ), though having to wait for the pact to resolve is bad for our turn pace frown

Edit: Well, I guess the pact was too good to hope for--I don't know how much I'm officially supposed to say about it (the rules say "don't talk about pacts before you offer them", which is probably the biggest problem I have with the rules so far--I hate artificial rules that try to control stuff surrounding the game), but that would have put me in a decent position to make some aggressive moves towards rho, especially once I got a Cannon to increase my Napoleon bonus. Otherwise, as I said, Napoleon makes me competitive, and I got my actions I wanted this turn along with my first Coal.

What a turn for the forums to go down--I declared war (of technology--I actually had a choice of that or territory at one point, but thought technology was easier to get an extra benefit), and barring some kind of intervention from rho21 (and I don't know what could exist, considering I showed the Promise of Military Protection pact--I guess rho's one Age III military card could be Military Alliance), I'm taking 4 science (or technically 1 science and Masonry, but probably the former).  After that, I'm not sure what I should do--a Revolution to Fundamentalism (something I picked up with my spare actions on the declaration turn) might be right, but I'm not sure it's worth a whole turn (minus more military buildup I don't know if I have room for)--presumably that's the reason why you save so much science on the Age III government revolutions.  There's so much stuff I want to do as well--even if we assume I just wasted the actions I spent on the Kremlin (which I doubt I'll finish, and might not even be worth finishing at this point unless I get more production), I'm wondering if I need more science production and need to take Computers then.  It also feels like if I want military to be a major part of my end game I need Air Forces (especially when Classic Army is a large chunk of my military--and part of how I gained so much last turn), and that might not even last through rho.

However, I don't know how I'm supposed to win at this point--I've put basically nothing into culture production, yet have stayed mostly competitive (mostly because I was the only one playing events)--am I supposed to just hope I get Armed Interventions and War over Cultures? (and Impact of Strength/Competition?)  I also don't know if I care about any Age III leaders--Churchill seems good, but he's generic.

If you can get air forces I would suggest that you go military. You are not that far from two napoleonic armies with air forces which should demolish us in if you can draw any cards. For that you need to grab reserves to get it out as soon as possible and then maybe disband a bronze or philosophy

I do not think you can get it as Rho is almost certain to take the last one. Without it you can get to 40 strength next turn which is still a lot and forces us to devote resources to military. That was a big blow for me last turn as I had to do it very inefficiently and skip things I wanted.
After that you could possibly go for computers and bill gates to which will hopefully enable you to finish Kremlin and a second wonder.

Sorry for the slow turn pace. Real life has been intruding, and I'm not feeling great this evening.

I was going to say that a turn shouldn't take that long--and then I spent almost a half-hour just staring at the war spoils screen about whether or not to take Masonry+1 Science or just go 4 Science, though that was basically planning out my whole turn.  rho took Air Forces as expected (making me look even more foolish for not taking it last turn for three actions), so that means I want Computers and Bill Gates to profit off my production advantage, and that's 3 actions.  The question is what else do I want?  As chumchu was saying I can still keep increasing my strength by building a Cannon and adopting Napoleonic Army (bringing my strength to 37), but to do that without revolting I must either both grow and build a Bread and Circuses or disband something (probably a Agriculture, Bronze, or Philosophy--my gut says an Agriculture, but I'm not sure), which constrains my Civil Action count.  Furthermore, I'd love to get Efficient Upgrade for only 1 Action, but then I'm running up against the hand limit!  I don't want to play Bill Gates quite yet (am I understanding it right that my Age A labs wouldn't actually contribute any production?), so the obvious play is Rich Land to upgrade my final Bronze.  Actually, I think I figured it out: 6 Civil Actions are Computers, Bill Gates, Rich Land a Bronze -> Coal, disband an Agriculture, Efficient Upgrade.  I wish I would have reasoned this out before hand--my original plan had me not building the military this turn, so I thought I could be fine Raiding to force chumchu to discard Military cards--now I don't get to draw any this turn frown

Edit: Now I realize what I was "supposed" to do with that spare action (the one I took Efficient Upgrade with): Discover Strategy!  I don't like that play since it means I can't play Computers next turn (or that I was supposed to take all 4 science instead of Masonry, though I don't think that changes it anyway (I could only play Computers if rho didn't play any techs, and with three in hand that seems unlikely).  My play seems better, but maybe I'm not all-in enough?  It would mean I'd get to draw some military cards though--I keep kicking myself on that mistake from not thinking things through enough.

Turns certainly can take a while later in the game. Definitely a big advantage for playing asynchronously. I had a few minutes to do my turn last night, but also a headache and I just couldn't work out the correct set of things to do. This evening everything clicked much more easily.

Age A labs with Gates do indeed produce nothing at all. lol

Sorry, what I was really thinking of there is Sid, with whom Age A labs produce 0 science and 0 culture. smile
With Gates at least they get to keep their science production, even though they don't make any resources.
