Indeed, you are all heavily laden.
Arriving back at the first cave, you find it much as you had left it, although the elevator has risen another foot and below further down the shaft you hear the sounds of rushing water; it seems the seas have invaded whatever chamber was down there, too. Although the elevator is 10x10, you could all squeeze on it at once with your burdens; if so all of you would need to haul on the ropes to lift it to the surface. Lighter loads need less strength to lift.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

As you all pile on with two extra bodies and the chest, the elevator begins to sink; it is held by one person. You'll all want to pitch in to raise it, though. Strength checks for all of you.
