Civ 6 Adventure 1 - Chinese First Strike

So I have decided I will try to report as I go along on this one as its allowed due to the no scoring and should help me both play the game and actually get the report done.

It also means I will briefly have reported the best China game before T-Hawk, Krill and the others post their China reports.

Hence by definition this post contains spoilers of the map (and how not to play it)

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Ok, so havent had a chance to open the game and see the starting map yet, but I do know I am China, as per the Brickopedia China is:

[Image: nIL97NG.gif]China
Unique Ability: Dynastic Cycle: Eurekas and Inspirations provide 60% of civics and technologies instead of 50%.
Unique Unit: Crouching Tiger: Unique Ranged Unit. Has a short range but high power, and does not require resources. (Replaces...?)
Unique Tile Improvement: Great Wall: Provides defense and Gold. Provides bonuses to Culture and Tourism in the later eras.

[Image: pXOWjlr.gif] Qin Shi Huang
Leader Bonus: The First Emperor. Can spend a builder charge to complete 15 % of the wonder cost for Ancient/and Classical wonders. Builders receive an additional charge than those of other civilizations.
Leader Agenda: Wall of 10,000 Li. He dislikes Civilizations who have built more wonders than him.

So this now means, for techs with eurekas, which I understand to be not that hard to get, a 10 turn tech now takes me 4 turns to research rather than 5, hence I have a potential 25% boost to both science and civscience. Hence i assume I am going to be pushing science hard here to try and build on that advantage and get a tech lead on the AI

I am also hearing barbarians are a pain, which I assume my UU and UTI (unfortunate anagram) can help with

I know in his very first game Parkin went worker first which with my super worker may seem the way to go, but he also then hit hard by barbs, so I am thinking scout-warrior-worker opening may be the way here, especially given I assume tile improvements follow the civ5 path of being minor boosts compared to the civ4 improvements.

This means I can hopefully kill the scouts before the barbarians start to snowball

next update when I get home and open the map

Ok, so finally got to open the save, initial panic when the save wouldn't open as i hadn't downloaded the Aztec add on which Brick must have had active when he made the save

Anyway starting location looked as follows

Decided to settle in place as was nicely on the river and didnt see any obvious reason to move. One thing to note is that the river seperates 2 continents

i think i went scout, slinger, warrior then had enough cash to buy the worker rather than build it, cash does seem to come really easy currently

Turn 50 status update:

First surprise is i havent met a single person, have 2 city states each with 2 envoys, 1 for first meeting and 1 for a quest, other than that its just me and the barbarians. think i have taken out 4 camps now at the loss of my slinger, who i just couldnt get the kill with for the innovation, so started risking him more and more and in the end too much.

So exploration has been limited by chasing and herding barbarians, here is what i know of the map at this point. note i am building a galleyu now to try and get more exploration in

I have 2 cities at this point, my capital

And a canal city that i thought would serve as a useful canal, grab a bunch of sea resources, and snag some eurekas. not being on a river is hurting a bit though

Then we have my 2 research trees as they stand

The turn after this update my scout met another city state up in the north east which i wasnt the first to meet, i am not alone!

Ok, turn 100 update

My military consist of a scout (more on him in a minute) and a warrior and archer as defense. Cleo hates me because of this (met her turn 79) but she hates me more because of the scout.

Also met Japan and America now

Known area far better than 50 turns ago (all be it at the cost of the scouting units)

I founded a 3rd city which when the district finally gets built should be a science powerhouse

First capital and city 2

Oh that circle next to my capital, thats was the oracle looks like if somebody completes it 2 turns before you (it didnt even give fail gold)

Then new city, and where city 4 goes in 2 turns after Cleo got careless

Japan did get very annoyed about my surprise war declaration too, and didnt like the fact i until recently had no barracks. i think me and Teddy are going to be friends though

Finally my research trees

Plan now is to backfill with some extra cities, the stolen settler city i think will have to defense up though

Turn 150.

Got peace with Egypt, they keep complaining about my small military, so will see how long that last. Getting tot he point where its much harder to get the eureka's now as i just dont have the production to build all the items needed to trigger them. only managed to get 1 new back water city out in the end, science is now moving along nicely though from the super science city. had 2 great scientist which have made only minimal gains. one gets me 3 science in my religious precinct, the other gave me 3 eurekas. do also have a GG knocking around. 3 AI teams seem to have died

view of the cities here:

Research trees

And my current standing / view of core and capital details

Few more reports but did an accidental culture win urn 308 while going for science

Few notes and observations, I don't think its ever worth passing on a specialist in single player, lost out of a lot of scientists stupidly passing on one

Do need to specialize heavily

Science victory takes a surprising amount of production

eurekas run out fast towards the back end of the tree, you just cant produce fast enough

joining somebody elses war still gives you a huge warmonger penalty
