Lucas notes that the goats tracks show the animals to be quick, light creatures. A whole herd may have passed along here recently, looking for winter plants.

As you go deeper within the pass, you start to smell a strong, musky odor. Anya and Elizabeth notice the dark shape behind the rock ahead early, and motion to the rest of the party. Bristling and hostile, you see a big wolverine before you, positioned in front of a narrow point in the maze. Saint whines nervously to see it and the wolverine bares her teeth at the dog.

Sorry for not seeing this earlier. Doe we even need to fight this animal? We can probably just back off, right?

I think it bars our way forward. Maybe Anya or Lucas can soothe it.

Anya tells Robern to draw his crossbow and comes by Lucas's side to help him soothe the wolverine.

The druid and ranger approach the defensive animal carefully, gaining nothing but snarls for their efforts. The wolverine looks hungry and has engorged teats on her underside; she must have given birth recently. She also has a bloody shoulder, almost as if she'd been kicked by a horse. For all that she is injured, she's still dangerous and seems unimpressed by your attempts to use wild empathy.

'Can anyone mimic the sound of a predator it might be afraid of? I regret I did not prepare such a spell.'

Apparently we're not a high enough level to produce the sound of a roar, anyway, but maybe we could make lesser sounds.

We could also maybe blow a horn or something, if anyone has one, but that might alert our quarries we're pursuing them.

Otherwise, I think we'll just have to fight it.

We all seem to have some kind of range weapon. I suggest we all use it at the same time before it gets a chance to react

Sounds good to me.
